The staff and the food were horrible.... room service would enter my room without notice. The front desk people were rude and couldn't give a straight answer on top of admitting they forgot to put a service call in for me. The food was definitely the worst part. It was not worth the money they asked.

Vegas without the sound of slots

You will either love or hate this place - nobody leaves here ambivalent. First, look at the website - it's huge. It is very much like a Vegas convention center and casino with huge wide hallways built to accomodate thousands of conventioneers. So start right there - do you want to be in a place that attracts convention business?

The rooms are nice, it is right on the water and there is a fun water taxi that takes you over the Potomic. If you happy staying in a hotel that wants several thousand people to stay there each night you will be happy here. For me, it was not a favorite.

I like Vegas with the hustle and chaos. That was missing here. This place was just big and impersonal. The staff were friendly and helpful - the place just felt cold. It doesn't help that everything around the hotel is under construction so there is dust everywhere (you cannot hear the construction noise inside).

I prefer a hotel in the in the middle of D.C. where you can step out the door to do something rather than get in a car or take the water taxi to do anything not contained within the resort itself.

While there are some kinks to workout since the hotel is newly opened the facilties are beautiful and the staff is accomodating while possibly a bit overwelmed.

I would certainly give this resort another shot after they have been open a little longer.

The Best Overall Experience in DC area - Gaylord National

We just returned from a weekend in DC and stayed at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. It had everything to offer from perfectly appointed guest rooms, a perfect view, and fantastic dining experiences on site.

We enjoyed a spectacular dinner at Moon Bay Restaurant overlooking the Potomac River. The breakfast buffet selection at Pienza was like no other and complete with a great view. We also enjoyed sandwiches at National Pastime - great spot to get caught up on the sports of the day.

We brought our five year old daughter and shortly after arriving on Friday afternoon and touring the resort we discovered the pool which is perfect any time of year with the indoor/outdoor option with an awesome view of the Potomac. I realized I had forgotten a bathing suit for her and that the on-site shops did not carry them. I made my way over to the concierge and to ask where the closest store might be to pick up a bathing suit. She asked if I had transportation and I replied no but that I could take a taxi. She immediately offered to go out on her break to a store about 6 miles away to pick up a bathing suit and said she would return in one hour. While I did not take her up on her personal offer, I was just blown away by how thoughtful and considerate she was!

After the first day of touring DC we were looking forward to a relaxing evening. It is not very often that you find such spectacular dining choices under one roof. We went into Moon Bay Restaurant and during the wait I asked one of the staff if she could give me some crackers just to keep my daughter going until we sat down. Not only did they come out with crackers but a full dish of carrots/celery and peanut butter for dipping! Everyone goes the extra mile. Prior to dinner we enjoyed our wine in the atrium while a fountain did its own show to music & lights.

It was a perfect location and experience for the family all around.

Absolutely the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Slow disinterested service, uncomfortable beds and food was worse than Mall Court takeout. I didn't see rats like the other guests did and really didn't expect to see any, as the food was so awful I'm sure they'll stay away too.

This place clearly opened way too early. Hopefully, they'll get it together, but I doubt it.

Never to return

Over priced rooms, food, drinks, mice, poor service, billing errors and these are the positive things. Stayed from 4/4 to 4/10 and have never paid $3.71 for a bottle of Sprite before or $11.50 for a gin and tonic in the Sportsbar. They have the guts to charge a $15.00 "resort fee" which covers the pool, not open when I was there, 2 bottles of water in the room, not provided, and internet access, which I use wireless for, so the resort fee is just a money grab. Then there is the $45.00 in taxes added to the $285.00 per night room rate. Upon checkout they messed up the bill and as of today, 4/23, have still not provided a corrected copy. STAY AWAY from this place.

Drapes wouldn't close (automatic w/no override) & Air Conditioner didn't work. Called 8 times & no one ever came to fix them. I asked someone in the hall who finally got the drapes fixed for me me on the 3rd day. They never fixed the Air Conditioner.

Never left soap, shampoo, mouth wash, bottled water (as promised). Once they didn't leave any towels.

Rats in building. Found glue rat trap on desk!!

Workers for Gaylord stood around & talked - wouldn't open the door or acknowledge customers.

Construction was still going on. Woke us up at 5am and worked until 10pm-11pm. No sleep!

Worst hotel visit in my life

I attended business meetings this past week at this hotel and it was honestly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I was one of the many attendees that had mice in the hotel rooms. I overheard from the hotels own staff members that there are thousands of mice (putting that # mildey) still within the walls and the hotel can't exterminate, because the mice will die within the walls. For such a lavish hotel, you would think that management would do all possible to resolve this issue, even if it meant fumigating and then fixing the walls. On top of that, no staff members cared that there was a mouse in my room, as if this is a normal occurrence in a hotel.

In addition, the staff is not prepared for such large groups. Customer Service is not in the forefront of their minds. The food was always barley lukewarm, meats were raw, room service took over an hour and half, and drinks ran out.

I will NEVER stay at this hotel again, and unless you like mice, and bad service, I wouldn't recommend that you stay their either. KEEP AWAY!!!

I stayed at this hotel for a conference that was planned many years in advanced - never book a big conference in a hotel that hasn't been built yet. They tried to have it ready in time but they really missed it. Hallways weren't done - no wallpaper - room numbers written on the wall in pencil, hotel services that never showed up. ANd to top it all off mice - several people had them in their room, one came across a person foot in the middle of a 400 person meeting, they had to close down one of the restaurants due to mice running up the walls during dinner. The staff was poorly trained and I blame the Gaylord management for having a convention of over 3500 people there and not being all over it. I did run into some great individuals who tried hard but the majority of the staff was poorly trained. They were missing the fundamentals of customer service - look people in the eye, great them, don't stand around talking to each other and ignoring your customers... I have to go back in October and I'm already dreading it - I will probably stay at the hotel across the street.

Nicest Hotel in Town

Just got back from DC. I make the trip too often for work, and have become rather bored. It used to excite me to go. But this trip, I tried out the new Gaylord hotel at National Harbor. What a surprise! I felt like I was on vacation, not a business trip! I wished my family was with me, in fact.

I read a few of the other reviews. I guess the customers there the first week didn't have a great experience... but I had a perfect stay, and I was there for 3 nights. I guess they've gotten the wrinkles out? I would compare it to the service at Omni Shoreham, where I usually stay... probably better, because the staff working seemed new and eager to please.

My first night, I went to the steakhouse (I think it's called Old Hickory or something like that) on a whim, and I honestly had the best steak of my life. The guy on the elevator said the seafood restaurant Moon Bay and the Bar or Club at the top were both top notch, but I didn't have enough time to check them out this trip.

I hope to come back this summer with my wife and kids... maybe around fourth of July.

Still not ready for guests

Just returned from convention at the Gaylord April 13 - 16. The hotel is not even close to being ready for guests. There were numerous sightings of mice in guest rooms and even in a conference center room during one of our workshops. When I arrived I was given a room on the 12th floor. Half of the floor was not finished. There were no permanent room numbers identifying rooms. Instaed you had to look for the penciled in room number on the not quite finished walls. While leaving my room after checking in I realized that the lock on my door was not working and the room would not lock. This same issue happened with several other guests at our conference. Others at the meeting had issues with check-in as they were given keys to rooms where other guests were already staying. There were several thefts of items out of rooms while we were there as well. Definitely not a secure place to stay yet.

Also an issue - for a hotel of this size there are not enough places to grab food or a drink.

The staff is trying hard but are clearly overwhelmed by the many issues they are facing. I am hoping that our conference planning committee was able to recoup some of their costs given the atrocious situation at the hotel for our meeting. certainly individual guests were not accomodated for their inconveniences.

The location is beautiful and the surrounding area will be very interesting when the other businesses are open as well. I would not recommend going to this hotel for AT LEAST 3 more months as I expect it will take that long to be completed and for the staff to be fully trained and ready for guests.

appears clean, but........... Don't use the phones and don't drink the water!

Take your own food. There is not much in the way of food at this hotel. A sport bar (a hot dog alone will run you around $9), Italian ($30+ a piece for dinner), a seafod restaurant (more costly than the Italian), a steak restaurant (higher yet on the price). Recommendations here, buy a cooler that looks like a suitcase, bring boxed milk, beer, etc). There is a small refrigerator in the room, so you can transfer the goods later. Bring cereal, muffins, snacks that don't need refrigeration, and your own small coffee pot. The hotel only gives out one serving of coffee in the room (IF you can get maid service, and the maid to leave you one).
