An OK stay

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel within walking distance of the Baltimore Inner Harbor. Room was large. Decor was okay. Nothing to rave about. For the price, the hotel was fine but I don't think I would choose to stay here again if we ever return to Baltimore. I think we ate in the restaurant one morning. The food quality was poor. We opted to eat elsewhere for future meals.

Decent Budget Hotel, Decent Location

Affordable alternative to the high-end hotels a few blocks south. The Inner Harbor and Convention Center are 8 hilly blocks south and Penn Station (Amtrak) just a few blocks north. The neighborhood may be a little intimidating after dark for those not used to an urban environment but is no worse than gentrifying Victorian "cultural districts" in any other city. The hotel itself is run by a hospitality college and staffed primarily by students. I stayed here several nights in August 2003 and paid $85 + tax per night. Considering that hotels a few blocks south can easily be $200 or more per night, I found this rate reasonable. The staff is friendly but not necessarily experienced. My room was a bit on the shabby/dusty side and sparsely decorated. The continental breakfast was adequate. I would recommend this hotel to students and budget travelers.

Roomy and well-located value

Located near the Washington Monument area of Baltimore (an emerging 'renaissance area' with cultural sites and fine dining, the historic hotel offers an excellent value. Rooms are well-appointed and larger than expected.

Too Hot!!! Hard to sleep comfortably

It was a very warm New Year's Eve (70 degrees) and the heat was already on in the hotel (it was winter). The rooms don't have individual cooling/heating, so we couldn't get the room below about 80. HOTTT!!! The saving grace was the staff, which was very nice and friendly
