Located near the Washington Monument area of Baltimore (an emerging 'renaissance area' with cultural sites and fine dining, the historic hotel offers an excellent value. Rooms are well-appointed and larger than expected.

It was a very warm New Year's Eve (70 degrees) and the heat was already on in the hotel (it was winter). The rooms don't have individual cooling/heating, so we couldn't get the room below about 80. HOTTT!!! The saving grace was the staff, which was very nice and friendly
Clean, quaint and quiet

This hotel was trashy and didn't like up to its advertising or image. Terrible,
I would never stay there again. Awful restaurant. Good location.

Affordable alternative to the high-end hotels a few blocks south. The Inner Harbor and Convention Center are 8 hilly blocks south and Penn Station (Amtrak) just a few blocks north. The neighborhood may be a little intimidating after dark for those not used to an urban environment but is no worse than gentrifying Victorian "cultural districts" in any other city. The hotel itself is run by a hospitality college and staffed primarily by students. I stayed here several nights in August 2003 and paid $85 + tax per night. Considering that hotels a few blocks south can easily be $200 or more per night, I found this rate reasonable. The staff is friendly but not necessarily experienced. My room was a bit on the shabby/dusty side and sparsely decorated. The continental breakfast was adequate. I would recommend this hotel to students and budget travelers.

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel within walking distance of the Baltimore Inner Harbor. Room was large. Decor was okay. Nothing to rave about.

For the price, the hotel was fine but I don't think I would choose to stay here again if we ever return to Baltimore.

I think we ate in the restaurant one morning. The food quality was poor. We opted to eat elsewhere for future meals.

We arrived and our room was supposed to be non-smoking and it really smelled of smoke. Then we complained and all they said was IT IS non-smoking room. We found hair in the bathroom, candy wrappers on the floor, someones phone number written in vasoline on the window. And the remote didn't work, when that happened we call the front desk and they sent the assistant manager up. We complained to her about the smell of the room and ALL she said was "I don't have a sense of smell". I will NEVER be back and DO NOT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL.

surprised my luggage was still there.....

Short and simple. The breakfast was good. Waffles, fruit, coffee, muffins, jelly...the usual carbs. No protein in the morning but for peanut butter. The water pressure was poor. We checked in and it is near the harbor about a 5 dollar cab ride. Watch that you don’t walk into the hood on accident. Cabs take about 20 mins to get to the front door. So walk on the corner and try to flag one down. The TV was fuzzy and we never had clear cable. Even after mentioning it to the front desk.

Towels are small and the light in the bathroom is a light green yellow tinge. No screens on the windows. They have to be propped open with a stick. Some windows don’t open and on certain months there is no air conditioning. We asked for a wake up call and they never called. House keeping called at 930 am to ask us if we wanted our room clean. Who does this?? A strange man was walking out of my room. When I asked why he was coming out of it he said he was checking to see if it was open. Weird??

The front desk just about always had some one complaining. We did get money discounted from our room but it was hardly worth it. Good luck. If you are on a budget and are used to slow customer service or just don’t care then this is the place for you. Walls are thin and the elevators are S L O W. The nicest thing about the place was the coffee and the stairs

Good for the Location and the Price - Go Red Sox!

Wanted to stay in a clean budget priced hotel near Camden Yards. This hotel was perfectly fine! We were lucky to get a corner room. The walk to Inner Harbor and Camden Yards was 7-8 blocks. Parking in the hotel was $13/day and across the street (no in/out privledges) was $9/day during the week and $4/day on the weekend. Our family of four, 2 adults and 2 kids, enjoyed our visit. The continental breakfast was good-very simple. Other guests had problems with their rooms but we didn't. For the price,$99 per night,we were very pleased! The other hotels in the Inner Harbor cost over $350 plus parking. We would definately stay here again!

What is the meaning of the word RESERVATION????

from A TripAdvisor Member
When you make a reservation and receive a confirmation number, you expect to get a room with the specifications you requested. When you call to tell them you'll be doing a late check in and they reply, no problem, you assume all is okay. However after my son and I attended a wedding and reception in early April, we arrived at the MVH at 2am. Upon arrival, they proceeded to tell us that they didn't have a room for us! I expressed my outrage that when you make a reservation, that it means you hold a room for us. They explained that they sometimes overbook. Well, that wasn't my problem. They offered to put us up in another hotel - at 2AM! I refused and told them they had to be kidding me! They showed us a rooom that had been put 'off the market', something about a faucet problem. It was a handicapped room with only 1 double bed. I again told them this was unacceptable. I don't sleep with my son! The end result was that my brother who was also staying there with his family (they checked in at 3pm) took us into their rooms. The hotel offered them a measily $40 total off of their room charge and begrudgingly I might add. The rooms were too large and poorly designed, very stale air and the bathroooms were not scrubbed clean. You would expect at least as nice as your own home, if not better but not worse. AVOID THE MOUNT VERNON AT ANY COSTS. What a disappointing experience all around!

This place is pretty lousy. The rooms are kept at a sauna temperature and the windows don't open. You will spend a night suffocating in the smell of hot stale hotel room. The shower head is falling out of the bathroom tiling. The place is cheap. The students who work there as part of their practical training for hotel school are sometimes quite nice, but not always competent.

Best Deal in Baltimore!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My two night stay at the Mt. Vernon was all right! I did not expect anything fancy in my room but just a relaxing time after a day of sightseeing in both Baltimore and in Washington,D.C. I thought it was a good value and the staff was friendly. Baltimore is a wonderful place and the Mt. Vernon was a first rate hotel for my money!

Great Value

from A TripAdvisor Member
No fluffy towels. Only 12 TV channels. No room service. A wimpy "continental" breakfast. Kinda dowdy. BUT: a clean, spacious room. Plenty 'nuff amenties for a place to "hang your hat in." Friendly, helpful, albeit inexperienced staff. Not close to Inner Harbor, Orioles, Ravens. BUT worth every single cent of 89 bucks a night. If you want the Hyatt, get your checkbook out. For half (reallly, less) the price, this is a no-brainer.

not bad for price!.

from Amishcowboy
It's not a bad hotel, good price, especially when you see how much the other hotels in inner harbor are. room was clean and Mt Vernon was a nice section in Baltimore.

re out of money, stay here...

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was all set to give them a nice review and they had to go foul it up... why there were local and long distance charges on my bill when I checked out, I can't say (I didn't call anyone)... but obviously someone did... probably the same person that was leaving behind burnt matches on the floor while I was out. And when they said they removed them, they only removed the local, not the long distance charges (I just noticed now, dammit). So, thanks for living up to your sucky reputation, apparently it's well founded.
Other comments:
Bed = was nice, I actually found it quite comfortable!!
TV = pretty crappy "cable" if any?
Room = does smell a little of smoke, but might be the person making those phone calls. Otherwise seemed ok and was cleaned/restocked well. A/C nice.
View = none, but I wasn't expecting any.
Drawers = A bible. That's so quaint. Nothing of mine went missing.
Breakfast = fairly nice, juice-drink, cereal, apples...
Location = close enough to nice places to walk from here if you like walking.
Would I go again - definitely not if my company's footing the bill but maybe if I was paying and I wasn't with anyone.

t be sorry!

We visited Baltimore for four days in May 2005. We chose the Mt. Vernon, which is one of three hotels run by the hospitality program of Baltimore International College, for both location and price, the latter being about half that of the cheapest competitor in the area.

Other online reviews we read made us wary, but when we got there, it was wonderful! Large, immaculate rooms, friendly staff (all students), excellent service, lots of charm, and a varied and complete continental breakfast.

We suspect that some of the poor reviews were written by students, either as a prank or from some competing school. (It does happen.) So, take any negative comments with a grain of salt and don't hesitate to book at the Mt. Vernon.
