Great service but a couple problems

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor in April 2006. The location is literally a stones throw (1 block) from Camden Yards if that is what you are in town for. We had tickets to 1 game, so it worked out very well for us in that respect. The hotel is also only about 6 blocks from the Inner Harbor for those in shape to walk it. We were given nothing short of exceptional service from the moment we checked in to the time we left. We were upgraded to an executive suite, corner room overlooking (and into) the ballpark at no additional cost. We were also given great recommendations on local restaurants and places to go. No unpleasant surprises at check in or out. The staff at this hotel really went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our stay! That is why it gets 4 stars instead of only 3.

The problems are with the hotel itself. It is a typical Holiday Inn, nothing special even with the "executive suite" upgrade, but we honestly were ready for that and you should be too. The two biggest problems were: 1) The hotel is right next to a firehouse IN DOWNTOWN BALTIMORE, A MAJOR CITY. I can't tell you how many times we heard the fire engines, police and ambulances go blaring out into the night (and we were on the opposite side of the hotel from the firehouse). 2) The a/c-heat unit in our room was exceptionally loud and sounded like a slamming door every time it kicked on or off. Another annoyance was the lack of water pressure in the shower.

Back on the upside, the restaurant at the hotel was very good as was the bar. Parking was easily accessible (albeit at a reasonable extra cost) with in/out privilages. The beds were comfortable and the room spacious. The pool looked nice although we didn't use it.

Summary: I recommend this hotel for the bargain traveler who wants or needs to be near Camden Yards and is not real sensitive to excessive noise. Note, the Marriott Inner Harbor (currently ranked #2 on Tripadvisor) is right next door, so they get the sirens too! There are many nicer hotels closer to the Inner Harbor if that is your true destination. I would only stay there again if the trip was solely for a baseball game and I was alone or with rugged company. Given the exceptional service it pains me not give it a better review, but the truth is more important. The extra star is gift enough.

Unpleasant and unhelpful manager makes a bad situation worse

I was checking in at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor about 7:30 PM on 4/11 with a Hotwire booking. They couldn't find my reservation and it turns out that I was booked for the following week! The staffer said that the manager could switch it- it shouldn't be a problem. The manager, when he finally came out, was very dismmissive and said he could not do that- if he changed the reservation Hotwire wouldn't pay. I called Hotwire and admitted my error and was told- no changes or refunds, but the hotel could choose to honor the reservation. I was between a rock and a hard place. (I also had a tired, cranky kid and my geriatric mother in tow.) Hotwire couldn't book me somewhere else, it was too late so I called their sister site Hotels. They were sold out for all Baltimore Inner Harbor properties.

There were at least 3 other parties with problems with their bookings and I was not the only person who was treated disrespectfully. A group of what looked to be Chinese college students were treated worse than I was.

Great Staff, exceeded our expectations!

From the minute we stepped foot into the hotel, we were impressed with the staff at the front desk and throughout the hotel. The rooms are standard Holiday Inn, but the service and staff were a cut above. We were in the West Tower and called about a constant banging noise coming from the elevator shaft. It was fixed within minutes and we were called to confirm that all was okay. I also needed a pair of slacks dry cleaned on Sunday night and by 1PM on Monday, they were hanging spotless in my room. The bellman/concierge also gave us great advise on where to eat and even led us out the back door to show us a short cut. He had called ahead to have the owner of the restaurant meet us at his back door so we didn't have to walk around the block in the rain.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn for New Years eve in Baltimore. Overall, the hotel is clean and fairly comfortable. I had a room on the 10th floor with a king size bed. Overall for $180 (super expensive for New Years) it felt like a $100 hotel. The saying is true, you get what you pay for. Dont go here expecting a four seasons becuase you are going to get a holiday inn.

Great Staff Made for a Delightful Stay

The staff at the desk when we arrived was excellent. They were very helpful in assisting us learn the Harbor area. They went out of their way to find us an updated copy of the entertainment magazine for the area. Gave us good advice on food and drink. The girl even upgraded our room to the 10th floor when she found out we were there because our trip to Mexico was cancelled due to the hurricane.

The room was very comfortable and quiet. I would have no problem staying here again.

It is a little bit of a walk to most of the harbor attractions, but for the money it can't be beat.

There was a $15 charge to park in the adjacent lot overnight.

Comfortable Stay

There are some tough reviews of this hotel. I found my room large and comfortable. Everything was clean, not new, but in good condition. Front desk was friendly and helpful at check in. I checked in before noon and it was not a problem. The desk clerk even gave me a map and quick directions upon my request.

I ate breakfast in the restaurant and had drinks in the bar. Both were understaffed, so service was slow. The employees were trying hard, but there just were not enough of them.

The location is convenient. There is a fire station across the street and I heard sirens a couple times at night during my 3 night stay, but otherwise the hotel was quiet. There is a 2nd tower of rooms that is separated by a covered, but outdoor walkway. I stayed in the main tower,some people who stayed in the other tower were not happy about it.

We booked our hotel a few months ago since we knew we'd be nearby for a business convention. Then, we read the reviews! We were worried to say the least. However, none of those terrible reviews proved to be the same for our 9-night stay. We booked our hotel over the hotel site and did have a glich in rates--which was promptly rectified by hotel manager after a quick email from us. Front lobby inviting and desk clerks were friendly and efficient. We had back-to-back stays (combining business w/pleasure) and they changed our room so we could remain in same room entire stay. Our room was large - great view fm 7th floor into Camden Yard baseball stadium. Easy walk to InnerHarbor and Convention Center. We had an erratic schedule first few days and housekeeping worked around our times in room efficiently. There was no mold, no problems.....this place is great!

Great Location, Hotel Was Fine

After having read the already posted reviews, I was prepared for the worst when I was assigned this hotel through Captain Kirk's website. Fortunately, my experience was quite different. I found the room to be very nice although the decor is that classy-cheesy combination that seems to permeate chain hotels. The bathroom was very up-to-date and clean. I only dealt with the staff upon checking in and that process went smoothly. The location is really great, about two long blocks to Camden Yards and a 15-minute walk to the Inner Harbor and Harborplace. There any many fine restaurants at Harborplace. For a lively bar, try the Wharf Rat which is about two blocks from the hotel. Given what hotel rooms go for in Baltimore these days, I thought this hotel was a great value and the facilities were just fine for me.

Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location

My partner and I stayed here for two days over Labor Day weekend. We arrived at the Hotel at 9 AM and they were able to check us in and upgrade our room from one double bed to a king for no additional charge. The Hotel Lobby and public areas where beautiful, clean, and well appointed. The Room was excellent and there was bottled water waiting for us on our desk. I liked everything about this hotel. I also ate in the Restaurant for breakfast for two mornings and that was fine. They had a waffle station and the buffet was great, and the staff was very nice.

I may have checked into this hotel, however I did not stay at this hotel. Two co-workers and myself tried 8 different rooms to try to find one that didn't wreak of mildew, or smoke (in non-smoking rooms), and didn't have mold growing on the ceiling or behind wallpaper. The staff was nice enough, but I wouldn't let me dog stay there. Luckily we were able to find a much better hotel that had availability only a couple blocks away.

Squidfire's Spring Art Mart Definitely check this event out if you're in the area. It's an amazing indie/diy craft fair hosted by local Baltimore small-businss, Squidfire.com. It's free to visit but bring money to get your most out of the handmade goodness.

Take the Train If you're coming from anywhere along the Amtrak corridor, take the train to Balimore. A very relaxing, pleasant way to travel.

Great Food Mo's Crab & Pasta in the Little Italysection of the Inner Harborhas a free area shuttle and awesome local seafood favorites. We showed up on a Friday night with 15 guests and no reservation and were seated immediately (we were early for dinner at about 6:00 PM). Food and service were commendable.
