t for the new manager I would never go back
from funnthesun111My family and I, as well as about 20 other guests, recently
stayed at the Doubletree in Annapolis. In all we reserved about 12 rooms from
the 8th of May through the 13th of May for my sisters wedding which took
place on the 12th at the Naval Academy Chapel.
I will try to make this as brief as possible; to sum up our stay
basically the attitude and lack of customer service of the staff, the
quality of the rooms and the overall experience at your hotel was
extremely below what we have come to know as Hilton Standards.
To begin with the night we arrived, even though we had asked specifically
for non smoking rooms due to my asthma, the only 2 rooms that were
available were smoking rooms. When this was pointed out to the young
lady behind the desk she immediately went on the defensive and began
raising her voice and stating that we could take these rooms or leave to
find another hotel. Being as it was 2am and we had just flown across the
country we decided to stay the night and switch rooms in the morning. We
were shocked that not only had we made these reservations months in
advance and they were not honored but the staff was so abrupt with
us and completely willing to lose our business or even apologize for the
situation.
Upon entering my parents room, I had to help them with their bags since
the front desk staff and the three security guards were unable to leave
their positions to assist us, the entire room reeked of marijuana. At this time it was past 3am and we had
no energy to leave so we stuck it out.
The next morning, while the front desk personnel was much more accommodating and willing to move us to better rooms, all we received was an apology and a small smile. Once again upon entering the rooms, neither A/C worked. A repair man was sent up but this just added to the frustration.
Being as the wedding was 2 days away and we had guests arriving we decided to live with the arrangements. I would like to point out that two of our guests received the same attitude from the front desk when they arrived to pick up keys the following evening. We had checked in for them as we were paying for the rooms and we left keys at the front desk. This same night crew held them there for almost 30 minutes stating that there was NO WAY anyone could have checked in for them until finally they saw the keys in an envelope. Once again, not even a simple apology was given.
Outside of these issues I would also like to state that the coffee bar that was put in was opened late every day and on Sunday it was closed until 11 am. ?????
Upon checking out I spoke with another of the front desk personell and left my name and number for the mananger to call me to discuss these issues. It is now the 23rd and I have yet to hear from anyone.
As I stated before, this is FAR from anything I have ever experienced at a Hilton hotel and I will NEVER stay at a doubletree hotel again. Also, if the Doubletree Annapolis continues to post "Naval Academy Alumi Association" plaques at their front door, maybe they should come to realize that Naval Academy Alumni expect a different kind of service and they should begin to adhere to it.
Thank you for your time and thought in to this matter. All in all we spent thousands of dollars with Doubletree over the course of the weekend and while the wedding went off without at hitch, had we been aware that Doubletree was not going to be accommodating or willing to even offer up a discount for the complete lack of customer service and respect, we definitely would have stayed elsewhere.
Regards,
Amber Stubbs
-At this time Management has refunded one night of our stay and has stated that changes are going to be made. Just beware of the night crew!
Great Location
from kannahusavery pleased with this hotel
from digin66Great Stay at the DoubleTree Annapolis
from Busibee19I checked into the hotel and was given a warm cookie. I thought that was cute. I went to my room on the third floor which was a non-smoking king room and found it was a nice room. There were no closet doors, but that was okay. The bed was a sleep number bed and it was a joy to experiment with and wonderful to sleep on.
I went down and introduced myself to Mr. Book and he again reassured me that previous concerns were addressed. The front desk staff was wonderful and accommodating while I stayed (April 23rd-28th). I locked myself out of my room and Russ was my knight in shining suit with key, I had trouble accessing the internet with my laptop and Christine offered personal in-room assistance and provided me with a bridge kit free of charge.
The downtown shuttle driver was very friendly and I enjoyed my trip to the downtown area tourist shops. It was nice having this free service as I could have never found the place on my own and I would have hated to find parking downtown.
The only thing that I could actually complain about if I had to find something was that there was no ice machine on the third floor and the vending machine and little shop only offered Coca-cola products. Being born Maryland, I understand that Coke is the drink of choice for all my relatives. Being from North Carolina and the birthplace of Pepsi, I am kind of partial...
The Double Tree is very conveniently located to a nice shopping center with Chili's and Boston Market (walking distance). A mile or so down the road is the Westfield? Mall. It has Macy's and Nordstrom's and many other shops and I thoroughly enjoyed myself after my training class during the day.
Speaking of the training... The DoubleTree provided the best breakfast pastries, cookies and salty snacks (warm soft pretzels and more) during our training.
I felt very safe and taken care of in the hotel and would say that DoubleTree Annapolis has definitely earned its three star rating and should be nominated for four if not done already.
p.s. Thank you Lauren for contacting me about articles left behind. You are an angel.
Bitten by Bedbugs at this hotel!
from ozarkartsI called the local Health Department later that morning and filed a formal complaint. A Health Inspector met me about 10:00am and we went up to my room. He had to actually find 'live' bugs in the room himself before he could do anything. It didn't take long to find many bedbugs on the bottom of the boxsprings of the beds. The case is ongoing.
We then contacted the hotel manager and told him what we found. He was very apologetic to me, and offered to pay for any cleaning I had to have done to my clothes. However, he did NOT offer to comp me for any of the four the nights I stayed in the room! The fact that they actually made me pay for staying in a room where I was bitten multiple times, and my belongings were possibly infested with bedbugs was outrageous!
I had to leave the conference I was attending a day early. I could not get a different room at the same hotel, or even stay in a different hotel, since bedbugs that may have been in my bag could have contaminated the place!
I flew back to Texas that same day. When I got home, I had to strip off my clothes outside in the yard and run them straight to the washing machine. I removed all the clothes from my luggage (which will NEVER be in my house again - bedbugs can live over a YEAR without feeding!) and washed them in hot water, and dried them with high heat.
Four days after I had returned home, I got out a ShopVac and brush-vacuumed my bag which had been laying open (outside) the entire time. Believe it or not, I actually found a small bedbug crawling on it - thank God I never brought it into my house!
In the hotel's defense, ANY hotel in the US could have bedbugs in them. Bedbugs can easily live in dirty or perfectly clean conditions - they just need blood to survive! The experience of dealing with bedbugs is a nightmare, and it has had an effect on me both mentally and physically! In my opinion, the fact that I still had to pay for my room after my experience shows me just how much the hotel really cares for their customers. I will never stay in a Doubletree or Hilton (who owns Doubletree) hotel again after this!
Good Hotel
from NBO- Thermostat in our room was not working. Engineering staff responded within 10 mins, could not fix the problem so he went to the lobby to get us checked into another room- right next-door. We were pleased that we did not have to haul everything to the front desk to check into another room. He also came back with a coupon for free complementary breakfast. A++ for service. Front desk staff gets a C.
- Had a room facing the parking lot on 2nd floor- no privacy - could not open the curtains because anyone in the parking lot would have been able to see into the room.
- For the price (paid <$150) it was a great deal for a one-night stay at a clean hotel with a good location.
Good location
from UMSA decent room but not much else
from KBTZBeware of rooms facing the freeway because it can be VERY noisy.
This hotel seems to be very popular with group gatherings/reunions.
An OK stay with renovations happening
from WxProphetThe staff was very friendly and helpful.
The hotel restaurant was over priced and the service was poor at best. The mall is nearby with many great choices if you want to eat close to the hotel.
The courtesy shuttle was nice. They took us and picked us up from the main tourist area of Annapolis.
Under Renovation

Exit to take Check with the hotel on the exit directions. MSN was incorrect. Also, take 95 to 495 when coming from the south. Don't take all the 295, 395 thru DC. Just follow 495 to 50. Also, if you like to shop, bring lots of money or plastic and shop your heart out. Lots of great stores close by and the downtown tourist t-shirt shops are great!!
Best Kept Secret If you want delicious steak in a very nice but not snobby restaurant, Lewnes is your place. We had such a wonderful dinner our first night in town, we went back two nights later. The staff is wonderful and the wine selection is amazing.
Historic Annapolis Annapolis is a charming town. Great historic sites. Maryland's capitol city. Downtown hotels are expensive. Downtown parking is tight. So, stay in the Riva Road area and use the shuttle. You'll need to do lots of walking.
