Beautiful Hotel, Warm Atmosphere and Friendly Staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently took my wife to this hotel for our one year anniversary and thought it was great. The staff made us feel very special and welcome. The hotel is grand but still has a warm feel to it. The Bar is fully stocked and the dinner we ate was excellent. We dined in one night and out another. I had the Salmon, best ever yet and my wife had the steak. You have to try the desserts too!
The rooms are spacious for a downtown hotel and beds comfortable. It is very quiet despite being local to all the pubs and restaurants which we walked to Saturday afternoon, and the free hotel shuttle collected us after our meal in the evening.
We enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to go back next year, if not sooner. Thank you O'Callaghan!!!

Average rooms

from AnneLV
The location is terrific - right downtown, close walk to bars and restaurants. Lobby is pleasant, Irish staff are very welcoming. But the rooms are VERY average with tired furniture, carpet, and bedding. Thin towels. Free high-speed internet (useful if it didn't block my work VPN). Stayed twice, a year apart. No change during that time - rooms no better or worse. Feels like a college-town hotel that caters to in-out weekend visitors, not business travelers.

I was disappointed in our stay at this hotel. We decided to treat ourselves to a room in an expensive hotel. It became less of a treat after we read the reviews on this web page as our expectations were lowered. Our room was nice, but it lacked attention to detail. One of the lampshades had a serious burn mark, probably from the wrong type of bulb being put in. It was noticeable and ruined the ambiance of the room. Not at all what I expected for a +$200 a night stay.

First time HORRIBLE Second time Much Better

from A TripAdvisor Member
In November of 2004 we went to Annapolis with a group of friend's to watch a Rutgers Navy football game. We must have had 15 rooms from our group. From the moment my traveling partner and I walked in we had issues - a man cut in front of us in line and when we told the hotel staff, she told me to be patient. The front desk staff did not know any restaurants in the area, the shuttle never picked us up (although we kept on calling and told the shuttle would be there), and they told us we could smoke cigars in the bar and then yelled at us ... BAD trip - I complained and they gave us a free room.

We used the room this year and the staff was much nicer, knew what they were doing and yes, the shuttle picked us up.

The rooms are a nice size and have wonderful ammenities. I would reccomend the hotel, but would tell the bad story first, so people are warned.

Billing Nightmare!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband stayed 2 days at this hotel 18 months ago. He had the misfortune of sharing a name with a regular user of the hotel. Every couple months our credit card is billed with this other man's charges. We call the hotel. They say they have it fixed. They claim to have removed my husband's information from the computer. Then a few months pass and we go through the whole thing again!!! This last billing we find out that they have placed our credit card number under this other man's account.

I'd stay there often, too... If they were billing someone else.

This has been a billing nightmare. THE ONLY WAY I WOULD STAY THERE IS IF I WERE PAYING CASH.

Callagan was great

from Bill99
We stayed here August 23-25 and found it just great. Rooms were good size, very clean and the bathroom a nice size. Staff could not have been friendlier. It is located about 12 min. from harbor so it was a pleasant walk. Their shuttle was free and we used it a few times but the location is great. The much priceier Loews is just a block over. Ask for the AAA discount and they will throw in a very good continental breakfast. We travel alot and this is a jewel. Paid $119 per nite and $15 for valet.

very good choice

from Charlesgate
Very happy with our one night stay - friendly staff, very clean and nicely appointed. Good value for the mid-level price. No problems and would stay again. Location in town, 1 mile up the hill from the dock area, very near the pricier Loews Hotel. Much better than being out by the highway as many hotels in similar price category. Valet parking required because the area is crowded - the convenience was well worth it. No waiting for our car to be brought around. One caution - we really had no view- which was not an issue for our stay, but be prepared for a parking lot and even a dumpster -but we noticed no noise associated with either. The other side of the hotel, toward the water, would have a better view.

I have family going to the US Naval Academy. Since the hotel is located between the USNA and the Navy Marine football stadium, we thought it would be the perfect location; and it is! We always feel welcome when we arrive and since we are there frequently for football games and to see our Midshipman, we are on a first name basis with many of the staff and management.

We are on our second year staying at the hotel and we plan on staying until commissioning. We leave our car parked at the hotel and use the local shuttle or walk to where we need to go.

It may be a small hotel, there are no national reward points programs, but the service makes up for this. ( I have recieved special notices on great rate weekends, and small tokens of thanks while here)

Location Location Location (well almost!)

I’ve never seen myself as a person who spends time filling questionaires or writing reviews on the many hotels I have spent time in. Too many to recount over the years.

So why now?

After reading negatives comments on this site I felt I had to set the record straight.

This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. It is downtown close to all amenities, with a shuttle service to transport you as you wish. Step outside and walk a few blocks to the water, passing stores and restaurants, coffee houses and art galleries. This is downtown not out of town.

This hotel is not even 3 years old. The décor and rooms are well appointed, and mine was always clean and comfortable throughout my weeklong stay.
They don’t allow pets!
I think that’s just fine. The thought of sharing a bed where a Great Dane laid his weary head the night before, just isn’t my thing.
The staff were ever helpful, courteous and polite and ensured that I had whatever I needed.
I paid for my parking. Can you show me a hotel in a central location that doesn’t charge you to park, in some way!!!

Wake up and smell the coffee………at the O’Callaghan Hotel Annapolis.
I did and I can’t recommend it enough.

My current stay at the O'Callaghan Hotel- annapolis, was quite unique, It was what I expected for the price and the location the staff was friendly, food in John Barry Resturant tasteful the dining room is lovely, As far as the sleeping room are concerned they are above average, compared to the local hotels in the area that I have stayed in, the room are larger and up to date with the modern times. So those of you that have not stayed here previously I suggest that you give it a try. I have read other reviews of this hotel and I am in total disagreement.

History Quest and Boats You can book all your tours / museums etc there! Even a Horse and Cart Ride. They are located on Main Street down near the dock. You can also go out on boats and join walking tours too.

Get out on the water! Take one of the boatrides...we took the Schooner Woodwind from the Marriot dock and it was awesome!
