Top Local Tips for New Orleans
Ashton's Bed & Breakfast Sometimes it's fun to be arm to arm in the crowds in the French quarter, but if you'd like to escape to the real New Orleans and stay in an historic Inn, freshly remodeled since Katrina no less, you can't do better than Ashton's Bed & Breakfast in the Esplanade Ridge Historic District. It's only 9 blocks -- about a 5 minute $4 taxi ride -- from the Quarter, but it's a century away from the hustle and bustle of the city. From the well appointed rooms to the beautiful dining room you will not find a more elegant setting. Patrick is a native of New Orleans and he and his wife Karma have captured the essence of old New Orleans style and grace. Patrick's world renowned breakfasts, like Eggs Benedict with a delicious crab cake where you would have expected an English Muffin, with a definite New Orleans flavor will definitely bring you back for more. We stayed in Dec '06. Can't wait to return!
Great Location in the Heart of the French Quarter If venturing to New Orleans I highly recommend a stay at the Place d' Armes hotel at 625 St. Ann Street. It is a block from Jackson Square and the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral and only a block and a 1/2 from the landmark Cafe du Monde. We totally overdosed on beignets and cafe au lait! No trip is complete without getting powdered sugar down your shirt. Everything is within walking distance of this charming old world hotel (it was originally the first school house built in the French Quarter back in the 1700's) with the feel of a quaint bed and breakfast. It has a beautiful garden/courtyard and a lovely pool area and helpful staff. It also offers a complimentary continental breakfast daily. A great find in a great locale!
