Our recent stay at the LaFayette was wonderful. The hotel is small and elegant (understated), but our room was large, beautiful, unique, and had a historical feel that added to our New Orleans experience. It didn't have a large noisy lobby - just a quiet and well appointed welcome area. It was walking distance to so many things, and right on the street car line. Would definitely stay there again.

The suite my husband and I stayed in was very nice. We had booked the hotel on line through a discount website. We were promised a breakfast every morning in the restaurant in the hotel. No one ever showed up to staff the breakfast and we had to walk about a mile to get breakfast. When I complained AGAIN at check out, the clerk told me that since I had received such a good rate for the room they were not going to do anything about our inconvenience. It was additionally obvious that they did not care. We will not be visiting there again!

Stay here!

from 7mlf
This was a terrific hotel in all respects--great location, fabulous service, and well appointed rooms (we got upgraded to a suite which was lovely, very quiet and spacious). Everything from our arrival to departure went smoothly. I was surprised to see that the AAA rating on this hotel, along with many others in New Orleans, was only 3 stars. I would have rated it higher and I'm very picky about hotel accomodations. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and stay again when I return to New Orleans.

***** A winner in every way!

We can't say enough good things about this hotel. Located about 6 blocks from the French Quarter, its a bit of a walk, but well worth it.
The Lafayette has all the charm you'd expect to find in New Orleans, complete with a ghost or two :-). The rooms are clean and well appointed. The water pressure in our room wasn't very strong, but we were on the top floor. It was a small price to pay since the overall was better than we could have hoped. The king size four poster bed and down filled pillows were a slice of heaven after all the walking we did. Kerry and Vicki give new meaning to the words customer service.
It's not often you stay in a hotel where the staff cares that your comfortable and enjoying your stay. They truly are wonderful and helped make our trip memorable. We were sorry to leave and will definitely be back!

A Special Place to Stay

We were in New Orleans in March for a conference and had a fabulous stay at the Lafayette. Not only were the rooms spacious, clean and well appointed but the staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Kerry manned the desk most of the time we were there and offered us valuable tips on things to do and restaurants to visit. He was always accomodating and polite. The hotel is a great location, out of the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter but close enough to walk and right on the trolley route. I have recommended this to many friends and would definitely stay at this hotel the next time we visit New Orleans.

Fabulous Time at the Lafayette

Had a fabulous time in New Orleans while staying in The Lafayette Hotel. The entire staff could not have been more helpful in trying to make our stay in New Orleans an unforgettable one. The Hotel, built in 1916, has large rooms and suites decorated in charming styles from an earlier period. Recently, a large wooden paneled bar was opened which has high ceilings and an extremely comfotable atmosphere. Located by the Federal Courts in the business district the Hotel is only a short walk to the Frtench Quarter if partying is what you have in mind.

Wonderful experience!

One of my most pleasant hotel experiences. I was actually greeted with a hug! The staff couldn't do enough for us, the rooms were nicely appointed and immaculate and the location was terrific. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommended

Best Hotel Experience

I did not know what to expect from The Lafayette since I did not book the hotel. However, from the moment we arrived and met with Vicky and Kerry at the front desk, I knew this was going to be special. Kerry, one of the managers, personally took my party to our rooms and made us feel right at home. Our rooms overlooked St. Charles Avenue, the principal parade route during Mardi Gras season, and were beautifully decorated with interesting prints on a freshly painted wall, a four poster bed with four down filled pillow on a king size bed. I had brought my lap top computer and I was able to access the internet through the wireless network in the hotel. My room had 3 French doors, all leading to a balcony, which was great to watch the parade that night. Champagne was on ice in the room, courtesy of the management.
This was perhaps the best hotel experience of my 50 years and I have been in hotels all over the world. If you are in New Orleans, there is no other hotel you want to book.

Loved the Lafayette

Stayed at the Layayette during Mardi Gras 2004. It is right on the Parade route just a couple blocks outside of the French Quarter, easily within walking distance and right on Lafayette park.

Vicki, the general manager was extremely accomodating, very friendly and perfectly professional. She welcomed us with open arms and personally located us and bid us farewell upon departure. The rest of the staff were equally pleasant. The rooms were large and clean and the restaurant and bar off the lobby was very nice.

The rates were very fair and I will stay there again when I return.

Great staff, rooms and location

We stayed at the Lafayette the weekend of the first big parades. Kerry took great care of us and hooked us up with everything we needed! Quick walk to burbon street! Rooms charming and clean! We will know where to stay next time!

Super Stay

Our Lafayette experience was wonderful. Kerry and the entire staff were so helpful and accomodating. Every request was quickly met. Kerry gave us an upgrade to a beautiful and spacious suite since the hotel was not fully occupied. Hopefully we can return next year - we have found our New Orleans home at the Lafayette! We highly recommend it !

Thanks, Grady and Francine Elmore

great time at the Lafayette

A great old restored hotel with attentive management. Valet parking $20/day across the street, rather than offsite in a suspect neighborhood as is often the rule in New Orleans. Excellent authentic French pastry shop/cafe across the street. Check in late, maybe they've overbooked and you'll get upgraded free to a suite like we did.
"Communications fee" includes unlimited local and long distance but broadband internet access not included in all rooms, $6 or $7 a day, in-room safe is $3 or $4 per day, they'll sometimes waive these if you wish but discuss it at check-in time. Some of the walls might be a little thin between rooms, but overall we had a really great 3 nights and definitely will stay here again.

Top Local Tips for New Orleans

Tours Take a broad tour of the city before you venture out! This gave us a good overview of our surroundings and bearings

Get passes If you'll be in NO for a few days get the 3 day pass. It's good for buses and streetcar and makes your life easier. We were lucky that Kerry at the front desk had some right there.

Don't miss the oysters at Acme Oyster House Gulf oysters on the half shell at Acme Oyster House, Pimm's Cup at Napoleon House (don't order a Pimm's Cup without checking first if they make it with lemonade or sours mix -- avoid the sours mix), and music on Frenchmen St. Avoid Bourbon Street's sketchiness and check out Frenchmen St. for the real NOLA music scene.
