We stayed here for two nights during Jazz Fest 2004. Nice room; well appointed bathroom. Convenient to the French Quarter yet quiet. Within several blocks of numerous, excellent restaurants in the Central Business and Warehouse Districts. Tried to stay here on an upcoming May 2005 trip but it's so popular we couldn't get a res.

Clueless valet!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just spent 30 minutes "STUCK" in the La Quinta's driveway because some clueless guests left their Accord in the middle of the drive and gave the keys to the valet, who then went on break. Unbelievable!

Within 15 minutes there were EIGHT cars behind me, blocking traffic on Camp. Valet was nowhere to be found!

Two complaints to the front desk just yielded a sassy "the valet will be back soon...just wait" comment from the clerk.

So much for service.

Love It

We just got back from our first trip to New Orleans. After reading the reviews of many hotels in the N.O. area we decided on La Quinta on Camp Street. We really loved this place! We spent 6 nights here. It was very clean, very quiet, and staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. The pull-out sofa bed was not overly comfortable but the king sized bed was fine. The hotel is located very close to the French Quarter, close to shopping, restaurants, the casino and the aquarium. We could have walked to most places in the Frech Quarter but most times but we took a cab which was very cheap for three people. We paid about $7 to get from the hotel to the Jackson Square area.

Although I gave the hotel a 4 star rating, I really think it deserved 5 stars. There are just a few minor things that could have been better. First of all the managment did not schedule staff to work the breakfast room on Christmas morning. Someone was called in last minute and she had to deal with a mob of angry guests who wanted something to eat. She did, however, work quickly to assemble the morning fare. The breakfast room should be opened least one hour longer. 6am to 9am is a bit too short ..not every morning would you feel like getting up early while on vacation. And since there were three in our room, it took some time for all of us to get ready so that we could all eat together. But these things are minor. The hotel had a comfortable home-away-from-home feeling that helped to make our stay in New Orleans very enjoyable.

I would stay at this hotel, without hesitation, on my next trip to New Orleans.

Great Hotel especially for the price

from A TripAdvisor Member
A friend and I recently traveled to New Orleans to see a college football game the weekend on Dec. 4. We booked the hotel via We found the hotel to be MUCH above average. The rooms were immaculately clean, the bathrooms were very adequate and the staff were very helpful. On top of that, the location was perfect, situated one block off Poydras St. on Camp St, a quiet, quaint street typical on New orleans. Also, St. Charles St. and Canal St. (French Quarter) were only 2 blocks away. 5-7 minute walk to the Superdome as well. I would recommend this hotel w/o a doubt, especially if you get as good a price as we got ($99 per night).

I just returned from a conference in NOLA. I took a chance on this place because of its price and the reviews on this site. It's a new property that is clean with very courteous and attentive staff. You can't go wrong with this place. The location is great. It is only two short blocks from Canal St and the French Quarter. It is a safe area, near the Sheraton. I will definitely stay there again in the future.

best value

Clean, friendly staff, modern rooms that include a mini-fridge. Quiet while we were there. It's in the middle of the business district, which puts it about 2 blocks from the French Quarter. The hotels 1 block closer to the Quarter are significantly more expensive and of the same quality (or less). And the hotels on Canal or in the Quarter are either much more expensive, of less quality, or both. This is not a sexy place, nor does it have any antique charm, but if you can walk the extra block or two, it is very affordable and very comfortable.

This place rules! I mean it!!

Let me tell you this is by FAR the BEST place as far as location to the quarter and all the attractions. It is NOTHING like the nasty crackhead stinky roach hotels in the central business district or on bourbon. we have stayed at SO many different hotels down there always looking for somewhere close by that is CLEAN AND affordable and have most of the time been really disappointed. NOT THIS ONE! Its a stone's throw from Harrah's casino and the house of blues. You dont have to walk through cracktown at night to get back. Kinda hard to see it at first, small driveway tucked into a corner lot in a mess of one-way streets but if you know where you are going you'll find it no problem. the reservations gave us great directions. It is NICE inside and the rooms are NICE and CLEAN and big enough for 2 people to be quite comfortable. most important it was QUIET! after youve been out partying you want to just crash without people slamming doors and kids running up and down the halls. that never happened even once! theres even a little fridge in the room. and FREE breakfast! the staff was friendly and helpful, checking in and out was easy and didnt have to worry about the safety of our car at all. I even forgot to pack toothpaste and I called the desk, they has samples up there to the 11th floor in like 2 minutes. This is NOT the Ritz or the Place du Armes but if you want to be in a really nice, clean, quiet, affordable and close place, this hotel kicks ass! We will stay here every time from now on. Tell your friends!

Good Hotel in New Orleans

from SCTP
We stayed at this hotel for four nights for a weekend football game at the Superdome. It was close enough to everything from the French Quarter to the Superdome. We probably could have walked or rode the trolley to most things, but chose to drive. The rooms were clean and the staff was very accomendating. The staff was knowledgable about the area and if they did not know the answer to a question, they were willing to find out.
Only three minor points of inconvenience we encountered. First, one morning, they started to close the breakfast buffet down at 9:50 instead of 10:00 (the closing time). When the staff was informed that guests had just arrived (us), they provided any requested items with an apology. From then on, the buffet was stocked until 10:00.
Second, the drive into the hotel is small and easy to miss. In addition, due to the width of the drive, if someone pulls in before your car is available to leave, you may have to wait for the car to be moved before you can pull out. We drove everyday and only encountered this problem once. Even then, we only had to wait for a short time, but be prepared and allow extra time if needed. You may also inform the valet if you will be using the vehicle every day. The cars are parked across the street above each other on lifts. If your car is on top, it takes longer to get your car.
Third, be aware of the cost of parking. The cost is $17 per day. However, while checking for rooms, we found that virtually all of the hotels charged a daily parking fee and this was about average for other hotels.
In short, we will be traveling again to New Orleans in July. We will be staying at this hetel again.

Management Issues, Keep Receipts

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this hotel during the essence festival.
I made my reservation online and thing were absolutely wonderful during my stay. However,
after returning from my trip a day early due to some unfortunate circumstances, I learned that my credit card was charged for an additional night. Prior to checking out I informed the clerk that I would be checking out one night early, and that I woud not be charged for checking out early. Well when I contacted la quinta and spoke with the general manager, he stated he would contact me after investigating the matter. Well he never returned my call, and even eventually left me a message stating that I never spoke to him. To make matters worse the General manager reported
that the computer showed that I did stay for the additional night. Well thankfully, I kept my receipt which verified the date of checkout. I never got a call back from the general manager after the initial contact. I then took matters into my own hands and contacted Guest Services for all La Quinta Hotels and I will be receiving my refund. This hotel is beautiful and the front desk staff was very helpful, unfortunately if you have any disputes with monetary issues and are forced to deal with management you will be disappointed, keep your receipts and assure that your check out dates are clear on your receipt,
thank you,
Prior to my problems with the general manager, I really would have written a positive review for this hotel, but unfortunately that had to change.

what a gem

Thought it was great

from furias3
My wife and I attended this year's Jazzfest, after a long search La Quinta offered a $99 room within walking distance of the Quarter. While I admit I had some misgivings about a "cheap" room, we were not disappointed at all. In fact, I have payed a lot more and felt that I received a lot less in quality, comfort and service. The while small, the lobby is nice with comfortable seating, the front desk staff were very friendly and prompt to check us in. We stayed on the 8th floor and it seemed to me that the room had recently been remodeled, very clean, tastefully decorated, marble in the bath room, large towels, a California king bed, microwave, mini bar and coffee maker. I also thought the room was relatively large. We only had the continental breakfast once but thought it went beyond the usual coffee and donuts, featured make your own waffles. Finally, the location was excellent, will it is 2 blocks from the Quarter it really is more like 1 regular block, it is only 3 blocks to Harrahs, it's very convenient but quiet. We would easily stay here again.

Top Local Tips for New Orleans

getting some jazz Make a beeline for Snug Harbor, not only can you listen to some great artists, but you get to also meet them!!!

restaurants to try olivers on decatur, the french market restaurant in the french market area, red fish grill, the court of 2 sisters for gumbo.

Moderate, consistent, very good gumbo I eat at The Gumbo Shop in the Quarter almost every time I'm in New Orleans. The wine, warm bread, great gumbo and cozy casual atmosphere are a welcome retreat from the outside shopping/play.
