Difficult to fault

Spent 3 nights at St Marie in Dec 2003. Very impressed with rooms for the price paid. The quality of food and service at the breakfast room was fantastic.

Nice quite room, 3 minute walk to Burbon St.

We've stayed at 4 different hotels now in the French Quarter and this hotel had the most "conventional" rooms to date. Meaning? Clean, comfortable, no more surprizing than a Days Inn on I-75. The Downside, if your into the "French Quarter Atmosphere" it's nothing real special, but that can be a good thing too, sometimes the rooms are memorable in a bad way!. The best part, only 3 minutes walk from your room to the middle of the action on Burbon St.

Great Hotel, Staff id FIRST CLASS!!

I Tryed several hotels in the Quarter some were dirty, some were just not too impressive. After my first stay in the St. Marie I now make it my regular place of choice in New Orleans. Even to the point of "If they are booked I postpone my trip till I can stay there." I can always count on everything being as near perfect as the staff can muster.
Ronald on the desk always helpful and frienely. This hotel broke the code while others in the French Quarter are still guessing. "They give good frinely service, and make the guest feel like ther are special,

Enjoyable, but damp

from A TripAdvisor Member
My sister and I shared a room there as part of a group trip. Our room, in the front and on the 4th floor, was lovely. My mother and her friend were in another room, which was not nearly as nice. Both ladies are allergic to cigarette smoke and mold, and the hotel staff was unable to find a room that did not reek of both...although several were attempted, including my sister's and mine. The room they ended up in was rather small and had no balcony. As in any historic building, especially one in a semi-tropic clime, dampness and mold run rampant...this hotel is no exception. Staff was considerate and cordial, although my sister had an expensive item taken by a cleaning lady. The manager knew immediately who to suspect, and returned the item to my sister upon finding in the woman's cleaning cart. (One may hope that the cleaning woman has been reassigned.) Street noise was quite loud in the front room, (quieter in Mom's back room), but worth it for the larger room and beautiful wrought iron balcony. The attached restaurant was amazing! Highly recommended.

Great Service, Nice Room

I give this hotel a 5 star rating, everything was perfect, room size, front desk serivce, the resturant, location.. I don't have a bad thing to say about anything this hotel offered!

If you want to stay close to the quarter, then check out this hotel with its friendly staff, and excellent rooms.

Good Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
The St. Marie had an excellent location only 1/2 block from Bourbon St. It was clean enough. But there was no ambience and we were put in a corner room right by the maid's closet. I noticed room service trays sitting for over eight hours outside another room. Would I recommend it, it's reasonable and location is great, but if you want atmosphere and excellent service go somewhere else.

Pleasantly surprised

from amy417
After getting a weekend rate of $69 at Hotel St. Marie, I was a little worried about what my room would be like. I was pleasantly surprised to step into a beautiful, elegant lobby in the heart of the French quarter, and to check-in to a clean, spacious room with a balcony to boot! I would definitely stay there again, and recommend it highly!

Great location and enjoyable stay

We were a bit worried after reading the most recent reviews of this hotel. We went into the weekend not expecting to like the hotel.
However, after using the information on this site, we were able to not only avoid the 5th floor rooms, which, according to one review, are smaller, but we were upgraded to a balcony room at no additional cost.
I would recommend the rooms on floors 2-4 next to the elevator shaft.
Although we didn't see the room, the balconies were larger. The location was perfect, and it was surprisingly quiet.

Great Place!

I don't know where the last reviewer stayed but my husband & I just returned from NO and the Hotel St. Marie on August 18th. We never saw any garbage in the hallways or had any employee of the Hotel St. Marie be rude to us. I had a hard time picking a hotel in NO because I wanted it to be reasonably priced. This one certainly was perfect. The pool is very nice and refreshing. Our room was large w/2 double beds and a balcony over the courtyard. We paid $69. during the week and $89. Fri & Sat nights. I understand there are some smaller rooms on the 5th floor (sort of an attic area) but we were given the room we had requested in our initial reservation. The location couldn't be better! It's my opinion this a great hotel for the $$$.

best feature is location

from bobkr
The only time the front desk staff didnt act like they had an impacted wisdom tooth waswhen I asked about booking a tour. Then the eyes lit for just long enough to book. Room was fair halls filthy trash was left on floor the two days we were there. Best feature is location.

Top Local Tips for New Orleans

comfortablitiy If you go during the summer months please drink lots of water. also wear comforable shoes such as tennis shoes, flats and sandals. Heels can be tiring.

cheapest prices we saved unbealivable amounts by booking through our freinds couldn't belive how cheap it was too bad you can't buy your drinks there!

The better clubs The better clubs, like Snug Harbor and The Spotted Cat, are on the other side of the French Quarter. It's a 12-block walk from the St. Marie or take a cab. The Cafe du Monde is open 24/7, so you can stop in along the way for coffe & beignets. Ellis Marsalis performs at Snug Harbor every Friday night.
