This was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. There were three of us and we didnt even get towels or wash clothes. The heater didnt work so we had to cover up with our blankets when we were in the room. We had no coffee pot are phone as the ad on the computer showed. The room cost me 186.00 for 1 night. I was appaled. Any motel room we stayed in was never over 80.00 and always had wonderful accommodations. Very bad !!!!!

A piece of creaky history

I traveled to the Crescent City as part of my research for writing two books involving her as a location. I desired to suck in the culture and history of this unique environment. The French Market Inn, because of its historical nature and being an early addition to Vieux Carre, seemed to be a suitable choice to stay. Okay...This place is not without its charm, history and so-called spectral residents included. However, a little repair would be appreciated. Loose tiles in hallways, a/c that loud enough either to wake the dead or scare them away, old (not antique) furnishings and thin walls did little to make my two week stay a delight. The staff was cordial, I must admit, but the inn's claim to a breakfast (as per my travel package) was a joke. A pastry from their modest bakery next door and a sweet coffee made Starbucks seem a gourmet restaurant by comparison(and I hate that over-rated, over-priced chain). Overall, I look back at the experience as part of an organic visit to Vieux Carre, since much of this portion of New Orleans does appear to be leaning and about to collapse. Admittedly, the Southern Lady has an appeal, a bit of whore mixed with history and charm. Not necessarily a hot bed of enjoyment (mostly a hot bed - a wet, hot bed, especially in summer), but a fascinating part of America, sleaze factor not withstanding.
