The hotel itself was fine, and the room was tidy and clean with much-needed air conditioning, but we checked our bags with the hotel staff before our flight out on the last day of our trip and when we got them back, my father's camera was nowhere to be found. We checked with the manager and he said no one had turned in a lost camera. That camera was my dad's pride and joy and he kept a close watch on it the entire trip, only to have someone on the hotel staff swipe it. Not a great way to end the trip.

Top Local Tips for New Orleans
Just Have a Nice Time I know things have changed with Katrina and that might go with the attitudes the people in New Orleans may have since then. But if you decide to go now--which I'm thinking about doing--investigate the atmosphere there. And at any rate, use common sense when you go out in the evening. When I went in 2000, I was alone. This time, I'm planning on going back with my husband. Then, when everything settled--just have a nice time.
If you can't take the heat.... New Orleans get very warm in the late spring & summer. You will be more comfortable going in late Winter.
close to street cars walk down dumaine st. to bourbon or 3 more blocks to ride street cars to see aquarium, river walk insectarium or IMAX theatre.
