What a great find!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have traveled all over the world & prefer to stay in bed & breakfast hotels for their quaint "at home" atmosphere. The O'Malley house is definitely not like staying at home.....it's like staying in a palace! The home is magnificent; the rooms are beautiful; the food is five star; and the service is royal! The location is just far away from the Quarter to be out of the noise, but close enough to be in the French Quarter in just minutes on the trolley. We actually enjoyed the neighborhood restaurants more than those downtown. The hosts, Brad & Larry, are so much fun & very helpful with directions & suggestions! I will definitely be back!!

B a great find!

Recently I was involved in organizing a meeting of government scientists working on a project in the New Orleans region. After failing to find a hotel offering a government perdiem rate, I turned to bed and breakfast accommodations. The first one I called was the 1896 O'Malley House B & B and it not only had several rooms available at a government rate, they offered a room to use for our meeting.

I had not seen or heard anything about this B & B prior to my arrival, so I admit to being a bit apprehensive about it. My doubts were quickly negated. The 1896 O'Malley House B & B turned out to be one of the best B & B's I have ever stayed at. Situated in a quiet neighborhood just off Canal St., the victorian home has been completely renovated and superbly decorated with appropriate furnishings and art work. The bed was the most comfortable I have slept in, and the breakfast was excellent. The proprietors were very accommodating for our meeting, and were able to recommend a number of excellent neighborhood restaurants within easy walking distance. Staying at the 1896 O'Malley House B & B was a wonderful experience and I give it my highest recommendation.

Malley House

I stayed with friends at the O'Mally House for the Jazz Fest this year. I've been to New Orleans many times and stayed in lots of places. This is the only place I want to stay from now on. Brad and Larry were great hosts, the location is central, the house is beautiful and the porch swing is amazing. Thanks for a great time.

From the moment we stepped into the 1896 O'Malley House, it felt as if we slipped into a bygone era of old world charm, Southern hospitality, and gracious hosts. Brad and Larry make you feel as if you live in the house full time, not just an itinerate guest -- and Cody the Retriever is just as gracious a host! The house itself is a wonderful celebration of architecture, lovingly restored and beautifully maintained. The breakfasts' provided by our hosts could find no equal in the finest restaurants in what is easily the restaurant capital of the US.

In addition, being in Mid-Cities, you could escape the hustle and bustle (and dare I say, down right craziness) of the Vieux Carre, but you are only a short (air-conditioned) streetcar ride away!

I can't wait to return to the 1896 O'Malley House and experience the warmth, hospitality and graciousness it has to offer!!

Exceeding all expectations !!!

Brad and Larry go above and beyond !! Their attention to detail is impeccable from the moment you set foot in this beautiful Victorian. They certainly take customer service to the next level. The O'Malley House is the only place to stay in New Orleans !

The Best Place to Stay in New Orleans!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I visit New Orleans with friends often, and we are so excited to have discovered this jewel of a Bed and Breakfast!

The O'Malley House is INCREDIBLE. It is by far the best bed and breakfast we have discovered. What a beautiful - and comfortable - place. Even amongst all those beautiful furnishings and one-of-a-kind items that make the decor so wonderful, Brad and Larry made sure that we we felt at home, free to plop down on the sofa for a conversation or just to read the paper and enjoy to smell of good New Orleans coffee and cookies filling the house. And we did feel at home, from the moment we walked in the door. All of the little touches made us feel special, too. These hosts pay attention to detail! The breakfasts were first-rate as well -- absolutely delicious! The location is good as well; it is also so easy to get around town that we hardly walked or drove at all, and the neighborhood is very nice. We loved sitting on the porch and watching the town go by.

The O'Malley House is a wonderful place with attentive and kind hosts, and it is a great value as well. I would reccommend this location to anyone. We can't wait to go back!

This was my first time in New Orleans and staying at the O'Malley House was wonderful. You can see the time that Larry and Brad has put into this B&B. Every detail was there - great rooms, wonderful atmosphere...making it a fantastic experience.

I have always stayed in Hotel and never a B&B, but after my experience with O'Mally House - I will only stay here when I am in New Orleans.

It made my stay relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you!

The house is gorgeous. All of the furnishings, art and fresh flowers create an atmosphere of Old New Orleans elegance. Larry, Brad and Cody are incredibly friendly and helpful. The fresh fruit and waffles for breakfast were delicious. The location, in mid-city is close to everything, including some great restaurants. I especially enjoyed Angelo Brocato's italian bakery for its chocolate hazelnut gelato and spumoni, yum. I look forward to staying here again.

Our stay at the O'Malley house made our vacation great. Brad and Larry take hospitality and helpfulness to the next level. Anyone who goes to New Orleans and doesn't stay here is doing themselves an injustice. Thank you for making our vacation unforgetable.

Great Stay for Conference

from A TripAdvisor Member
I came to New Orleans for a conference at the Hilton, at the Superdome. My husband and mother-in-law were joining me (she was visiting from Japan) and so I wanted to stay someplace more interesting (architecture and location) than a corporate hotel in the business district. I also wanted somewhere more affordable for my mother-in-law. For the price of a single room at the Hilton, we took the two connected rooms (each with own bathroom) on the 3rd floor. They were inexpensive, extremely comfortable, and we had the entire floor to ourselves. I very much advise the 3rd floor if you are traveling with others and need two rooms (each also has an additional day bed). I am not a "B&B person", partially because, to be honest, I am not extremely social- but I really liked this place. It was not frilly, they had internet access, and the Sunday NY Times. Brad and Larry were extremely accommodating, nice, and very helpful in helping my husband and mother-in-law with their sight-seeing plans. I could go on and on. The location was fine- the trolly is right there, and from the trolly, I walked a few blocks to my conference. Breakfast was great (even though I had to skip it several times- I heard about it from my husband- something different every day). I would recommend this place to everyone.

Top Local Tips for New Orleans

Road Construction I-10 in Metairie has road construction going on, very slow around 5 pm.

Garden District Tour Must do!! These tour guides are fabulous, you will not be disappointed.

Well worth the visit. I've been to New Orleans twice since Katrina - August 06 and Jan 07 - and had a wonderful experience both trips. Certainly, some areas of the city are still a wreck, but the food is great, and the people are even better. This is a great American city that needs tourist dollars in a bad way - and they'll be well-spent.
