Had a great time!!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a great time at the GWL. We were there for Thansgiving with our whole family. Waterpark was so much fun and our room was wonderful and cozy. We ate the buffet dinner for Thanksgiving and it was GREAT. Food was wonderful and our server was very attentive. Thanks so much for making our holiday very memorable.

Great place for families!

Last summer, my family and I went to Kansas City for a mini-vacation.
The plan was to go to Worlds of Fun and then stay at the Great Wolf lodge that evening and into the next day to play at the water park. We had a horrible time at Worlds of Fun and would have much rather stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge the entire time instead. The only complaints I have about the lodge was that it was hard to find from Worlds of Fun and the directions they gave us were horrible AND the service in the restaurant was terrible. Like the other reviews stated, the wait for a table was unreal and much too long for children. Our waitress, bless her heart, was not the best but it was because she had a huge section entirely to herself. She did the best she could. If they would have been fully staffed, it would have been better. The food, I thought, was pretty good.

Anyway, I am planning on taking my children again within the next couple of months and we can't wait! The only thing I will change is that we will definitely eat at Famous Dave's across the street instead of the restaurant in the lodge!

A night to remember!

My husband and I spent our wedding night at the Great Wolf. It was a beautiful king size room with a hot tub, and a seperate living space.
The staff was very polite and helpful, but what impressed me most was the staff at the restraunt. We had an evening wedding so it was rather late by the time we arrived at the lodge. Having been too busy to eat all day we were both starved so went down to the lodge restraunt to see if it was still open. We got there just as they were about to close.
Not wanting to make anyone stay later than scheduled we started to turn to go back to the room when a waitress stopped us and invited us to come in. We said we would order something quick, and easy, so not to mess up the kitchen again. We were told not to worry about that and to order whatever we wanted. We were the only people in the place and I felt like a Princess. Right after we were married we found out that my husband has a terminal illness and has only a few months left. I want to thank the staff at the GWL for making our one and only trip as man and wife so very special. It is a memory I will cherish forever!

Great Getaway!!!!

I took my family of 4 to Great Wolf Lodge for a short stay before Halloween. Arrived Wednesday the 29th of Oct at 1:15 p.m. and got right into our room, NO WAITING at all. The room was great, we had a Wolf Den room which gave the wife and I a little privacy. The room along with the whole hotel was spotless and the staff was very nice. The water park area and the arcade room was loads of fun and hardly any people boths days. Also all the food and beverages in the hotel were only about 30-50 cents more than at a store!!! That was great for us. Had dinner at Famous Daves across the street, because we enjoy the food there, but the hotel restuarant had a very good menu. I personally thought the price was right on target for this sort of hotel, our past fall and spring vacations have been in the Bahamas and Disney World, but this time we decided to stay close to home and w are glad we did.
Also compared to the prices in those sorts of places, The Great Wolf Lodge was an outstanding bargin without the feeling that the place was trying to get every last penny from the customer. I would however mention that I could see that on a weekend or busy day that things as far as service may slide a little, but that happens at most places.

Really KID-ORIENTED but great fun for adults too!

Spent two terrific nights and loved it! I was worried about reviews stating how small the towels were in the waterpark. I'm glad to report that towel size is no big deal! The water temp in the park is very nice and my kids we so busy having fun, they didn't care at all about towels. Was glad to discover the snack shop in the water even sells beer/wine. My kids also loved the arcade and storytime. They really put a lot of work into their special Halloween tour for the kids. All around, it was a fabulous stay! We'll be back many times!

First-timers and we loved it

This was our first visit to an indoor water park and we loved it. We got to the hotel about 3:30 on a Thursday and got our room right away.
We headed straight for the water park. It was a non-stop blast! A couple of hours there and we were all starved, so we took a dinner break and enjoyed the atmosphere at the hotel restaurant. By eating a little earlier around 5:30 we missed most of the crowd. Our boys enjoyed their dinner "buckets" (cute!). We also took a quick trek through the black-lit arcarde (very cool) and then headed back to the water park. Our boys really dug the "Wolf Den" in our room (adorable!) although the bunk bed was a little tight for our 11-year-old. We liked having easy access to all the amenities under one roof. Very family-oriented and not too "hob-knobbish." The next morning we skipped breakfast in favor of the water park from 8:30 until 10. Next time we'll take along some cereal bar snacks. We hit Cabela's for lunch. It was very crowded, but there was some great live bluegrass music.

Had a blast!!!

Our family stayed for a week and had a wondeful time! We basically had the water park to ourselves during the week days (Oct 13th week) and Friday was just a little more crowded, still no lines. Restaurant food was great but service was VERY slow but they gave us some free coupons for free fudge. Rooms were very nice. We are definitely going back each time we visit family in KC.

The weekend I want to forget!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
When arriving at a family resort, it is very disturbing to be told that we have to wait until after 6pm to check in! At 6pm we found a long line at the check-in desk. We literally walked in our room at 7:15.
Then we found that there weren't enough pillows...we were told there were no more available. One of my children slept with their coat folded as a pillow. Then we asked for more towels (only 2 per room for a room for 4). Asked for them...we were told that they would be delivered in the morning, (which they weren't). The water park area is nice to see.
The lines were long. The kids enjoyed themselves. Again...the towels were sparse and very small. We had other incidents (trying to order adult beverages via room service, found dirty linen in the room, phone stopped working) that we tried to work through. This was a family vacation and I didn't want to set a bad example by complaining about numerous things. I feel it was WAY over priced and that it is not worth the time nor money.

Nice hotel but only under certain conditions

Stayed at lodge twice and will go back but only with these conditions.1. Never pay anything but their cheapest price of 40 per cent off plus 25 dollars. That is barely worth it much less full price but my kids love the water area and it is the only water park option in the cold climate.2. Never assume the room will be avail by the promised time of 4pm. We get our water passes at 2pm and come back to the front desk to check in after dinner at 630 when the crowds at the desk die down.3. Eat at Cabela's Cafe across the street. No waiting, tipping or hassles over there. Food is very avg at the htl and the waits are too long for kids.4. Never go there when Oceans of Fun is avail. Not nearly as good a park and it is more expensive to go to the lodge. If you accept the lodge under those conditions then it is a good place. The best value is to stay just one night and swim the day you check in and the next morning. \The lodge is basically an upper enonomy htl with a great water park. If you are expecting a fancy resort you will be disappointed. Rooms are very ordinary but the architecture is kind of neat. If you have realistic expectations then you will have a good experience - if your expectations are high you will come away quite disappointed.

overnight stay

I just spent 1 night. Towels were skimpy. This is a waterpark! Do bring your own beach towel. The rooms were very minimal for the price. You are paying top dollar and getting what one would expect to get at a Holiday Inn. Elevators slow and scarce, take the stairs. Food is nothing to brag about. Check in and out lines very long. I definitely would not spend top dollar just for the water park!

Top Local Tips for Kansas City

Cabellas As a New Yorker, I had never heard of this store. It was quite an experience just to look around at all the decorations.

Surrounding area....... Great Wolf is right next to the NASCAR race track. This new area has really developed and has anything you need in a very close proximity. The Barbeque place across the street is VERY good...above average!

Arriving Get there either before 1pm or not till around 6:30 pm. other wise it is really busy and you will have a long wait.
