Stay Away
from A TripAdvisor Memberarrived at front desk to check in, was left standing for more than 10 minutes before anyone cared to assist.
Once in the room ( we asked for a non-smoking room ) it smelled like a chimney. asked for a new room and the same thing, smelled terrible.
went to dinner at the restaurant and the food was only ok nothing spectatcular, the price was spectacular (overpriced) though. at nite thought we could have some peace and quiet, no-way, walls thin as paper. when management was asked to quiet down a very noisy neighboring room after midnite, no response for over an hour, finally after multiple calls security came to room and did nothing. called management next morning and response was oh-well what can i do about it. worst hotel stay ever!!!!!
better off staying at Embassy suites. less expensive but customer service 5 star.
love/hate stay
from MALouiseWe got a package, and with the price the children could make crafts downstairs. This was an area known as Bourbon St. (This was set up like a New Orleans French Quarter) There were 3 pools, we didn't have time to go in them, but they did look rather warm. Many people were swimming outside in Feb in the one indoor/outdoor pool.
We did leave to eat that night, when we returned we could NOT find any parking. My husband told the clerk, in which he was told "You will just have to try to find something" So, he had to circle the whole area for a half hour.
The shower didn't drain well, and the pressure was not the greatest.
The Sunday brunch 28.00 per person was pricey, but lovely. Good food, and a LOT of it.
Overall, it seemed to me a lot like an old cruise ship on land. Lots of things to do, but lots of updating to be done.
Busy place.
from ParisRainI did like the hotel itself though. There's lots to do. Check out the little art gallery above Bourbon Street. A hidden adventure. They also have tons of onsite entertainment. Instead of being built UP, this hotel is built OUT and sprawls every which way. Lots to see and do. Good service.
Stay Away From This Train Wreck of a Hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe Pheasant Run used to be a great place to have a meting and a nice breakaway evening. This is no longer true.
Loved it!
from A TripAdvisor MemberNothing special
from jill052We stayed in a room there for 4 days. It wasn't a "Tower Room." Our room was in the "B" building which was a wing. We had a small pool but it was very busy as expected over the holiday. However the kids running up and down the brick walk right outside our room into the night was very disruptive. My husband tried to talk with them but it didn't help for long.
Our room had a window that looked out into a hallway that had been enclosed so we had to keep our drapes pulled ALL the time or people could look in as they walked by. This made the room VERY dark! I only opened the drapes to take the photos.
The wall air conditioner was VERY loud and rattled like crazy. My husband thought the motor was on it's last leg. We had a terrible time hearing the tv with it on.
The bedspread was fairly new and it looked like the carpet wasn't too worn but it was very soiled! A few large spots by the closet and several going into the bathroom. The furniture was dated but in fairly good condition.
The bathroom had a coffee pot and the usual soaps, shampoo, and lotion but there was tile that was cracked. The tub seemed worn but clean. I was a little concerned about use of the tub mat provided. It looked very soiled but I thought perhaps they'd tried to clean it with bleach, etc and maybe the stains just wouldn't come out.Of course, that would be a clue to replace the mat. I didn't use it . I guessed that the maid would take it when we left and replace it with another and then clean the mat in some way that the hotels do such as bleach or replace it completely. My husband and I were supposed to just stay 3 days and checked out the morning of the third day but by noon we were informed he'd have to stay another day. When we called to ask about staying another night, they said they had just cleaned our room and we could just have the same room back. When I went into the bathroom, I saw the exact same mat (I know the stains couldn't have been exactly the same on another mat!) in our room which they thought different people were going to be staying !!
Also, we needed to use the internet and there's a charge of $10. You can use it from noon of one day until noon of the next for your money.
We also had a terrible time finding a parking place and had to walk a long way to our room. I'm sure this doesn't happen very often but when they have a full hotel, they don't have enough parking places. When we left the next morning we saw that some people had to make their own places to park.
The grounds are pretty and well taken care of but I think perhaps more time and $ needs to be spent in the actual rooms.
Mixed feelings
from tsmdlmThe staff at the resort was friendly. However when I called and tried to book this hotel and alter my reservations I was put on hold for very long periods of time and then rerouted back to the front desk to ask if I wanted to continue to hold. This happened on 3 different phone calls and I was told they experience high volumes of calls during that time...if that's the case, hire another person to answer the phone.
We were there at the beginning of the week so not much going on in the way of shows or the comedy club, they are only operating on the weekends it seems.
At any rate, I'd give it a try again but would hope for a little better stay.

from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for St. Charles
Make time to go to downtown St. Charles I only had 2 hours to spend in downtown St.Charles and I would have liked an entire day. Also, dowtown Geneva (about 5 minutes away) is WONDERFUL! I really loved it! Need a little more time- too many shops too little time.
Romance or family - it's all good! Besides the wonderful variety of things to do at the hotel - St. Charles and Geneva are both close. They are both lovely old towns on the beautiful Fox River. It would be very easy for a romantic couple to spend a long weekend experiencing those towns during the daytime and the hotel at night. It would also be a lot of fun for a family - 3 pools!
Getting Around There are taxis that will pick you up and drop you off at the nostolgic area.
