The unit my wife and I stayed in would have been fine for young people who can go up an down a very steep stairwell with out difficulty. I became ill during the stay and had to leave one day earlier than anticipated. The hotel refused to credit our account for the one unused day.

I would not recommend this facility to people who are in the same status as we are nor would I recommend the hotel for their attitude in not refunding the one unused day due to illness.

Make sure to rent a house

from jsilva12
The house we rented had 5 bedrooms with 4 and 1/2 baths. It had a pool table, hot tub, screened deck, a basket ball hoop, a gas grill and great view. It had everything we needed. We stayed for 3 days and brough our own food and wine so we never ate at the lodge.
The swimming pool at the lodge was small but it served its purpose as they showed movies on Friday night and had a basketball hoop as well. Our only concern was that the hot tub was too small.
The fishing area was great for the kids. Although we did not eat at the lodge the lobby bar was really nice and had live entertainment.
Overall it was a good experience and when we return it will be in a house only.

Ditto - the villas are wonderful

from burchard
We just returned from a one night getaway. We found the rate on the internet and called the hotel to book. The hotel quoted nearly $100 more but quickly accepted the internet rate upon request. We rented a two bedroom villa so that our mom could have privacy. It was perfect - master bedroom and private bath ground level, walk out level kitchen, family room with real working fireplace, second bedroom with twin beds and full bath. Also sofa in family room pulls out to a bed. Resort is very nice - wish I had known that you could pay additional to use the other pool - would gladly have done so. The spa is fabulous - the spa waiting area was quite full and everyone returning from a treatment raved about it. Agree the breakfast buffet was nice, we made the required reservation and showed up at 8:15 to a nearly empty room on a Sunday. Highly recommend hotel.

Great stay in the villas!

from xmason99
We stayed in one of the 1 BR condos ("villas"). It was nice and clean, with a fully equiped kitchen, fireplace, screen porch, and a living room with a TV and VCR/DVD. We were provided coupons for the breakfast buffet upon arrival, and were explicitly told that we would need to make reservations for the buffet. In addition, this requirement is printed in bold on the tickets. The food on the buffet was excellent, with a nice selection of healthy choices as well as more traditional breakfast fare. The restaurant staff was courteous, polite, and provided excellent service. We also ate dinner at the main restaurant the first night, and also had excellent food and service.

If you are staying in the villas or townhomes, don't go to the main hotel indoor/outdoor pool -- pay the small extra fee to swim in the semi-private shared outdoor pool. It's worth the money to not have to deal with all the screaming kids, the pool is fully outdoors and nice and warm, and was within a 5 minute walk from our villa, so it was easy to break away for lunch back home.

The housekeeping staff was also very polite and thourough, and extra towels and coffee were provided without question.

Overall, an excellent experience, and we will be returning next year.

You are all missing the point.....

We are 5 star hotel people. We are platinum level serious travelers.

Re-think what you go to Eagle Ridge for. That drive up which starts in the Apple River canyon and then the drop down into the valley might one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Yes, Banff is prettier but it's the way the hills work with the lay of the land that just makes me feel like ahhhh I am on vacation.

Never ever stay in the lodge. That is for neo phites. Rent a house. Go online and you can find one you like. We shared a beatiful house with another couple and had a blast. We had a roaring fire too. Real fireplaces-yippee!! We brought our own food for snacks, my favorite feather pillows , down comforters and played pool and texas Holdem all week-end. Pure joy. The memories that you want to have with your family. The shampoos will not be great the towels will be so so but you will feel a million miles away. Bring your own Molton Brown.

We also noticed the mess they were having with the buffet but we ended up having great sandwiches in the wine bar. There is a top notch cafe in town which has pancakes the size of plates. Go there instead.

I have never noticed the mold growing in the pool. It has always been very nice when we used to use it. If it was there I am sure it won't be there for long because I can't imagine them tolerating that.

Bring your own wine-they don't even know what a Caymus is there and don't expect them to. Veuve is $60.00 and at Costco you can get it for half.

Don't expect 5 star service it's not there. Expect a cabin in the woods type of experience and you will get that and love that.

We will continue to go and we can't wait.

Stay somewhere else

We stayed at the Eagleridge Feb 18-20, 06. Room 209.
Upon check-in staff was pleasant. We received breakfast vouchers for each day we were staying there. The lobby has a nice fireplace. There is a deli and restaurant as well. The room was nice and appeared to have been updated with new carpet and furniture. The bathroom is outdated with rose colored tiles that were chipped and grout was peeling. The sink is outside the bathroom - out in the open next to the door of the room.

The pool is in the "main building". We had to walk outside to the building in 13 degree weather. We took the kids swimming and found the pool beyond cold - it was downright FREEZING.... The kids decided to brave it only to have to walk outside back to the room in freezing winter weather. The set up is ridiculous. Maybe in the summertime this is ok with guests. The pool is outdated and mold is growing up the walls all the way to the ceiling. That can't be healthy.

The breakfast the following morning was simply a joke. The staff was overwhelmed with more than 40 guests waiting in line for over an hour. Some people had reservations, most didn't (including myself - and was not told to upon check in). They had moved breakfast to the ballroom and had tables set up like a wedding (round tables seating 8-10). At one point offered couples to sit with other guests so they could be seated sooner. The staff was visibly overwhelmed and the management seemed oblivious to the dilemma. In the end it was worth the wait because the Sunday Brunch includes 7 tables of food options including prime rib, omlet station, fruit, fresh made waffles, crepe station. There is typically a $12.00 additional fee for the sunday brunch but they probably figured who would pay for it after waiting and hour plus just to be seated. Mind you this was a holiday weekend and they appeared to be short staffed as well.

After all is said and done, there really is no reason for my family and I to go back. There are far too many other options for families. Stoney Creek Inn and the Irish Cottage are much better choices. I've stayed at both and would recommend either one.

Christmas In Galena

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed on a "package" over the Christmas holiday 2004 and had a great time. On the plus side - our room was very nice. The spa was even open on Christmas Day and my daughters and I treated ourselves to a massage. The Sunday breakfast buffet was wonderful (part of the package) and you certainly left full. Being close to Galena was great and we spent a day shopping there. The town was "dressed up" for Christmas and definately put you in the Christmas spirit. Being close to Chestnut Mountain is also a plus for skiers. We woke early on Christmas morning to find a soft snow falling amidst the twinkling lights that lit up the property. It was breathtaking. The only negative was some of the items offered in our package were unavailable. We had wanted to go horseback riding - but the weather was cold for the horses. In fairness - the lodge did offer us a trolley ride through Galena to replace the horseback riding activity, but we had spent the day before there. Nothing else was offered to replace the value of the missed activity. In spite of this - I would definately go back to Eagle Ridge. We had a great time!

Inn not so hot

from ILJilly
We stayed in the hotel in September, 2004. The doorman was a gem. This was an anniversary getaway weekend. Our room was on the first floor with a nice view of the lake. The room cost over $200 per night. We soon noticed there was a damp, moldy smell in the room. It was a hot weekend, so we had the AC on, which was not a modern setup, just a noisy box in the corner. The bathroom sink and vanity were open to the room. These are characteristics I'd expect in a motel, not a property that bills itself as a "resort." The restaurant and bar were lackluster, especially if you ordered anything out of the mainstream. A sandwich that was supposed to contain arugula instead contained wilted lettuce and I do know the difference. The Sam Adams beer in the bar was several months past its prime.

I sent a note to the management upon our return and got a voucher for a villa stay--Sunday through Thursday. It's doubtful that we'd burn vacation days to try this place again, but the crowning touch was that the voucher was dated so it had already expired! Pretty much sums up the lack of attention to detail.

Mediocre in every way. NYC prices with [--] Quality

from A TripAdvisor Member
The service at this place is truly lacking. Its more of a golf course with a hotel than a bonified resort. The staff was not what I'd expect at a place that was so expensive.

We paid $500 for a 1 night getaway, which was supposed to be nice and relaxing. This price included a welcome Champagne bottle, as well as dinner and room service breakfast. The bottle of Champagne they gave us was a bottle of $5 Cooks Champagne that can be found in the worst grocery stores across America (its so bad that even many grocery stores don't even stock it).

When it came time to order the room service breakfast, we found that the phone in the room did not work. Our cell phones did not work. We had to get in the car and drive to the restaraunt just to order room service, then drive back. They didn't even seem apologetic for this.

Dinner wasn't so hot either. The waitress at the restaraunt made me feel like I was eating at Denny's. The service was terrible, food was nothing to write home about (I can't even remember what I ate). The house wine was so aweful we couldn't drink it, it tasted like Kool-Aid.

A friend bought me a gift certificate at the Spa by following the directions on their web page, but when I showed up they didn't know anything about it ANYWWHERE. I had to call the friend up, ask if they really did buy me one, or if they forgot. Of course they hadn't forgot, so I hunt down where the resort put the $. Eventually we figured it out. When I called the Spa back for an appointment, they were rude and even hung up. I was so annoyed, I ended up going to the Irish Cottage Inn for my massage. Who wants to get a massage from someone who just was rude and hung up on you? (As a side note... The Irish Cottage seemed nice and I'd probably stay there next time I visit.)

The Eagle Ridge is secluded from Galena itself. Its not in an ideal location if you're wanting to go to Galena for the city itself, because you'll find that you'll need to "plan" when you're taking the 20 minute drive back to the resort.

If you're going for a relaxing getaway, this isn't really the place.

We paid WAY too much money to stay here, don't do the same!

Simply Wonderful

We spent 2 absolutely wonderful days at the Resort. The staff was exceptionally friendly, the Vila was immaculate, the food at the Lodge was terrific, the Spa facilities and service were fantastic. We couldn't have asked for anything betterfrom facilities to staff.Susie and I travel quite often and we have to rate this as one of the best in all categories. We are already planning on going back again in February and are taking a couple of other couples as well that will be renting adjacent Vilas.

from Lizzz
My husband and I got in our car on Friday after work for an unknown destination. We love to take off for weekends and explore. We wound up at the Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa.

While driving to Galena we decided to stay and the resort. I called ahead to check for availability for two nights. The price was what we anticipated for a suite at a "resort" so we didn't mind. When we arrived it was truly disappointing.

It looks as if the resort has not been remodeled or updated in over 25 years. The carpets are dirty and worn. While walking around the room in my white socks, they were black on the soles. In the bathroom we were only provided with a bar of soap whch appeared to be an antique. When I unwrapped it, it crumbled in my hand. There were no other toiletries provided. I always bring my own, so that was not an issue for me, however it was odd not to see it available. The towels were old, small and thin. The fixtures in the bathroom were cheap aluminum and broke off in my husbands hand. There was harsh florescent lighting in the bathroom.

The bed was uncomfortable. It was well worn and we could feel the springs poking us in the back. The sheets were clean.

The television was awful - no reception and only 3 channels working. We don't go away to watch TV, but we like to watch the weather or see some local news.

The dining room looked very depressing and the menu unappealing. We decided not to take a chance. We went into town and had a fabulous meal. I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but it used to be a bank. I had one of the best steaks I've ever ever eaten.

Because of the condition of the Eagle Ridge, we decided to end our stay there one night early. It was a very disappointing experience.

I do not know how the Eagle Ridge can charge the prices for the rooms and keep a straight face to it's customers. They falsely call themselves a resort, but you do not receive any of the ammenities associated with one. I could not recommend staying there to anyone.
