I thought the hotel was clean and well kept. (or appeared to be) The staff was EXTREMELY helpful as far as with my transportation. I had never been to chi-town before and was travelling alone with basically no knowledge of the city. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to help me. The room was small but very affordable and clean. Can't ask for much more in my opinion.

I have been reading these reviews and honestly, take them with a grain of salt. Is the hotel small and outdated? Yes, but you CANNOT beat the location. You are 5 minutes walk from downtown. You walk out and can walk through the HUGE park onto the lakeshore park. You are 2 blocks down from local bakeries, restaurants, Second City(great comedy group), and 3 blocks from an EL station. If you are coming to Chicago to spend the day in the hotel, then this is not the room for you. But if you are coming for having a place to crash for the night after a long day on the town, then it's perfect. My wife and I absolutely loved the location and being able to be so close to downtown for such a price.

The reception area is awful, very grungy looking not a great first impression, the staff are very casually dressed not v professional. Some reception staff are nice some are terrible. The other staff are all very pleasant, the shuttle drivers, the cleaners etc all very nice. The Shuttle which drops you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel is a great service. The hallways and elevators could do with a serious clean and update . My room was fine, it was huge and had two bathrooms, i thought it was pretty clean to be honest. All in all the location was good but the hotel could do with a new look!!

Do Not Even Stop

First impression was a girl at the front desk in desperate need of a bath and shampoo. One of the two elevators was not working, the advertised resaurant downstairs closed last week, the carpets crawled with grunge, and the wallpaper was peeling from the walls We had a "suite" with two mold infested bathrooms, and a sofa with a broken arm. The bed sank in the middle. Oh and the remote control for the TV was held together with scotch tape and of course didn't work even at that. Our "no smoking" room reeked from cigarettes and there were cigarette burns on the carpet, the bathroom floor and the blankets. The young man at the desk in the morning was simply nasty. When I told him that the elevator wasn't working (I had been stuck in it for 5 minutes) he snapped at me and "they are both working, anything else?" The good news only is that it in an excellent location with a great view - if only the windows were clean enough to enjoy it. The women who cleaned the rooms were very friendly and seemed to be doing the best they could under horrible circumstance and for that we tipped them very well.

Why?

Every time you use the hotel internet (even for 2 minutes to check your email) the hotel charges $9.95!! Haven't they heard that every other hotel gives this to their customers for free? With all the horrible review on internet you would think they will try harder.

Not perfect, but not bad at all.

First off, this is not a luxury hotel. It's in a very nice part of the city, with a nice bar downstairs. Rooms were clean. Not nearly as bad as the other reviewers have made it out to be. I do have to mention that they make you pay for wireless internet, on their web page it says they "offer" wireless internet, no mention of fees. Most hotels I've been to offer this service for free.

Hotel from Hell

Pass this hotel up and do not look back! This was one of those hotels that drug dealers and prostitutes rent by the hour. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and was filthy. The wallpaper in the room was falling off and was absolutely disgusting this hotel should be condemned.

Great Staff

The staff welcomed us friendlier than in some of the 5 star hotels I have been with work. The room was clean and all you need. On the third night there was a little incident with the heater, but the staff helped us as much as they could. Especially the cleaning lady Elvira was very very helpful. Nice People always make a big difference. The hotel bar is cool and you can reach Old town within a few minutes. Also the next subway station is quite close. Thanks again for the great time we had. Clean - but not very happy

Yes, this hotel was clean, but we were still not very happy with the hotel at all. It said in the book in the rooms, (that is if you could move in the room at all to even find a book, yes they were that small) that it was updated in 1999....I would like to know with what? Hey guys, update your elevators so they move just a LITTLE bit faster...your hotel only has 12 floors, it shouldn't take 15 minutes to get a elevator to the 4th floor...The hotel check-in, check-out staff were not very helpful and not very friendly at all. The continental breakfast was hard donuts and muffins, coffee and juice...that is it. The walls were so thin, I could hear the couple talking in the room next to us. I read a review on having a hard time getting towels...this is true. The lady who brought them up actually expected a tip...I'm sorry, this is their jobs!!! We would say that the best thing about this hotel was the bar - Louis on the Park, which wasn't even affiliated with the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will not be staying here again.
