The next to last time we stayed at Swissotel Chicago, we found shards of glass, peanut hulls and a thank you note on the floor of our room. The front desk clerk was very unsympathetic. We complained by email and got a gift certificate for a free night's stay. Making a reservation for New Year's Eve for our room (and 3 other couples) I asked if I could apply the certificate against the New Year's Eve rate, which I knew would be higher. No problem, I was told. On arrival, they denied the certificate for the night and said I should have called another number to make the reservation. This time, we found an open shampoo bottle in our shower when we checked in. Didn't mention it as we will not be back. The staff here has all the warmth of a stuffy French waiter in Paris.

Upon entrance to the Swissotel Chicago you are greeted with wonderful smiles and courteous, helpful people. You are made to feel welcome from the moment you pull your car up and are greeted by the doorman. The front desk quickly checks you in and answers all your questions as well as tells you about things you may be interested in doing. The corner rooms are to die for especially in terms of size and view. They are comfortable and clean and have every amenity you could want. Even though the hotel is large and contains many guests, its quiet ambience surrounds you constantly. Elegance, beauty, and quiet consistently envelop you. After spending a weekend or a few days at the hotel, you feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the days ahead. The Swissotel provides you with a memorable time in a timeless, classic setting.

Awesome New Years Eve

Although I live in Chicago, my friends and I felt that we should rent a room for NYE. From the moment we parked the car with valet, I knew we were in for a treat.

The hotels lobby is small, but it's a nice change from overwhelming large lobbies of other hotels. The front desk person was very polite when we checked in.

Security was tight at the hotel, as we had to present a room key to go to the guest elevators. This was nice, as we were 3 young ladies traveling alone.

The room very very spacious, and the washroom was beautiful! Marble everywhere, a large soaking tub, and a seperate shower! Also, in room coffee maker was complimentry.

Check out was very fast, as was getting our car from valet. As we were driving off, a valet person chased after us. We pulled over and he told us that our tire looked rather low. He gave us detailed directions to the nearest gas station. I just thought that he went above and beyond by making sure we knew about the tire.

I would stay here again, especially for a weekend shopping trip!

The location is as perfect as the hotel! You are right between the Chicago Art Institute and the Mag Mile. Service was excellent and the suites were large and comfortable. (well worth the extra money.) On the top floors, you have access to the gym and spa and a great continental breakfast. The bedding was sumptuous as were the marble bathrooms with lots of fluffy towels and robes. A very great place to stay that has everything you need and then some.

One Good/ One Bad

I stayed at the Swissotel this past summer and found it very nice. I booked a room through hotwire for the Chicago Marathon weekend. Yes, I paid for the room in advance! When marathon weekend came though, I was bumped out due to overbooking by the Swissotel. I had reconfirmed my reservation a week earlier, then at the last moment, I was bumped and left scrambling. They offered a room 25 miles out in the suburbs as compensation which was not acceptable. I booked the room for the location! I was able to find another room in the city and the Swissotel has promised to reimbuse me the difference in my stay. I am still waiting for my check from them.

Beautiful Hotel - Service Slightly Lacking

We made reservations for the Swissotel at Quickbook for a CONCEIRGE LEVEL ROOM (the upper floors of the Swissotel). When we went they had a special deal where if you showed a different hotel's rewards card, you would get free airline miles for staying at the Swissotel. We showed them our Wyndham By-Request card and were told for doing this one of our rooms would be given a complimentary upgrade to a conceirge level room - not both rooms but one room. Strange, we thought, since we had booked conceirge level rooms. So this would not be an upgrade but simply giving us what we booked and payed more for. We later (about 5 minutes later - after seeing the lower level room) asked for a conceirge level room and they told us that there was a conference and people were checking out late, and they apologized - and then went ahead and moved us to the conceirge level.It seems to me IF THEY ONLY HAD ONE CONCEIRGE ROOM READY they would give us the one conceirge room and ask us if we would like to wait for the second room to be ready instead of moving us to a lower level room (since we were paying more for the conceirge level room). And don't tell us we're getting an upgrade when that's what we booked. I guess perhaps they figure many people who use discount hotel sites on the web don't really know what they are getting room-wise and so they didn't really have to give us a conceirge level room. Who knows but it was not professional.The rooms with the Navy Pier view are beautiful and the restaurant on the lower level, Currents, was an excellent dining experience. It's a nice hotel, but we felt patronized because we did not book directly through the Swissotel.

Disappointing this time

I've stayed here twice before and completely loved it, but it was over 7 years ago. Alot of the common areas that I enjoyed so much (a lower level promenade with shops such as a swiss bakery) have been turned into areas such as large banquet rooms. Now, nothing much seems to be going on here and the hotel offered me nothing more than an expensive room and an expensive place to park my car. You also have to pay an extra $10 a day for using the exercise facility which is nice enough but, at that extra cost, I was amazed to find they didn't provide bottled water -- there was a $2/bottle machine! Come on ... nothing like nickle and diming you. To be fair, the room was very nice with a beautiful view of Navy Pier at night. For the price, I think I could do much, much better next time. I won't be staying here again.

Unbelievable stay at the Swissotel Chicago! Everything there was in great shape, and all the staff were wonderful. Upgraded to a 2-level suite at check in.....biggest hotel room I have ever seen. 180 degree views of the River, Navy Pier, Lake, and down Lake Shore Drive!
Executive Lounge is a must if possible. Great service in there, and a nice quiet place to grab a drink and just talk. Will definitely be coming back to the Swissotel Chicago.

snobbish hotel but nice and clean

I stayed at this hotel in September and got a great deal at hotwire.com. It is in a very convenient location. The only drawback were: Parking was very outrageous, and the people that were staying at this hotel were snobs. The staff at the front desk and the concierge were a bunch of snobs as well -- very arrogant. A definate turn-off.
The rooms were clean and big and the view of the navy pier was incredible. If one is not turned off by the reception one gets when one checks in, then it's a great hotel -- just try to ignore them all and you'll do fine!

Very nice hotel with well trained staff. But the beds are most uncomfortable! Get a room on the lakeside, the view from the higher floors is wonderful.

I got a great rate from an internet site at the Swissotel. Even my cityview room had a great view of the Chicago River. The concierge was quite helpful with dinner reservations. Rooms were nicely furnished.
Desk was adequately sized and there was high speed internet acess. Gym large and there is a great view from the 42nd floor. Pool is nice with whirlpool and saunas in the locker rooms. Parking is expensive. I took the advice from another reviewer and parked in the city lot under Millenium Park and walked less than two blocks to the hotel, paying $13.00. The water pressure was low in the bathtub, but I found nothing else to complain about. Excellent location just off of Michigan Avenue, yet close to the Art Institute and Grand Park.

We enjoyed our stay at Swissotel! The staff was courteous, professional and efficient; the room very pleasant, and the location great! The contemporary hotel is located on the southeastern edge of the Chicago River, just several blocks from Michigan Ave. shops & the very interesting architecture of the Loop. The rooms are business-oriented, so they are not as hip or stylish as, say, the Sutton Place or the W.
But still very nice. The bathroom was my favorite. The pleasant view from our window looked out towards an office building in one direction and the Chicago River, Tribune Tower & points north in the other (since the building is triangular, there are interesting views) The top floor pool & exercise room is a nice place to stop in after a day of sightseeing and take in the fabulous view of the Lake & Navy Pier.
Since the hotel garage was rather expensive ($33/day), so we deposited the car 2 blocks away in the Grant Park underground garage (circa $13/day) and just walked or took the El during our stay. We had gotten a great rate via the internet, which made our stay at Swissotel even better!

Top Local Tips for Chicago

Getting around town with The buses and subway (El) are the way to get around ! Get the "Visitor's Pass" = 1-day, 2-day, etc... and you can zip around town at very little cost. These passes provide unlimited riding on buses or subway for the duration of your selected days. The buses go everywhere... so get a map. Go see the sites, shop, etc.... and not worry about having change, costs, taxi fares, parking costs, etc...by using these cards. Tremendous value !!

Museums dont try to get a whole museum visit in aon a saturday!!! too many people, too much to see..

Wildfire Resturant You must visit Wildfire Resturant there are a couple around the Chicago area. The food was excellent. Some of the best resturant food I've ever tasted.
