Top Local Tips for Chicago

Boat tour Take one of the boat tours of the river. They give you a nice look of the city

Get your CTA card You can pick them up anywhere (Dominick's, Cash Exchange,ect) and for a far cheaper price than paying for each trip individually and riding the El gives you a far better view and no traffic so you can enjoy the ride.

Restaurant and transportation If arriving by air and staying w/o a car, get the 3 day unlimited CTA pass for $12 (at kiosk in train station). It allows you to ride all buses and trains for that 3 day period. A great bargain since fare is $2 a trip otherwise. You don't need a car at all in this area or downtown, buses are fantastic and train stations are convenient. Also, try Sura if you like sushi and Thai food. It has the coolest atmosphere and great (very reasonable food)! And don't forget to visit Billy Goat Tavern - the original one on Lower Michigan, you'll have to ask for directions, but its worth the effort!!
