Authentic Experience...If You Like Tenament Housing

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is in a great neighborhood but the hotel itself is a dive. Rooms are dark, dirty and moldy smelling, in addition to being tiny. Many common conveniences, like an iron or in-room coffee maker, are absent. Counter staff is unfriendly at worst or indifferent at best. You truly feel like an imposition to them from the moment you check in. I left after one night as the place was so depressing. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere!

good value for the location

from anitamich
I was there for the weekend by myself and was given a small but satisfactory corner room overlooking the water. Clean bathroom, all needed updating but for the money, nothing of great concern. Oh except for one thing, I had to open the window for fresh air. Breakfast was just okay, something to start your day and it's included. Make sure you're there before 945 or there isn't much left. They constantly replenish it. I particularly liked having the free shuttle into the city. The driver was nice and dropped me off at my son's apartment in the area. I think this is a unique feature. However, it was my understanding that this very simple/dated/cheap for the city hotel is going to be renovated and will become a boutique hotel. All in all, while it's not much, the shuttle, location, breakfast, and price make it all worth it.

No complaints

from Lover/Fighter
After browsing the web for quite a few days trying to find a hotel at a good price in Chicago, this one seemed to stand out. Got a great deal through the chain's own web site, and wasn't disappointed. The room was small, yes, but it was clean and quiet (luckily, we faced the inner courtyard - I'm not sure the rooms facing the street would be as quiet so it would be worth asking). The bathroom was totally clean and shiny.
Complaints? The walls were somewhat thin so we could hear the phone next door ringing. The (included) breakfast was okay, not great. The make-your-own waffles are a novelty (and taste pretty good, I thought) but avoid the "croissants" at all costs.
Found the staff helpful and friendly enough.
The "L" (brown line) is a 5 to 10 minute walk away and the bus is right at the door. Lots to do in the neighbourhood.
Would definitely stay here again for the same price.

Awesome value

Found on 877chicago for $100.00/nite. Rec'd spacious two double-bed room, which was very clean & updated. Window airconditioner was a tad noisy when trying to watch TV. Can't beat location for Cubs games (hop on bus out front & go straight down Clark 1 mile away to Wrigley) and is located on CTA line to go directly downtown without transfer on bus & close by is a subway/EL station if you don't like buses. Front desk & staff were very helpful/nice. Parking is valet($20/day) or self park ($16/day) a block away, which is typical of big city. Have stayed in 2 hotels in Downtown bigcity areas & none have their own onsite parking (Wyndham-Chicago; Hyatt Grand Central-NYC). Worked for me!!

t be fooled by the wrapping

from not-naturally-red
How do we get the listed rates? We were charged $135 for one night in a double, plus parking in a ramp we had to access through a loading dock. Lobby and rooms are nicely decorated, but our room was small and cold, cold, cold. Front desk bordered on rude, even by Chicago standards, and the "deluxe continental breakfast" selection was juice and coffee (if you elbowed your way to the pots as they were made), stale muffins, bagels and cold cereal. No instant oatmeal, toast or a piece of fruit. Don't be fooled -- this one's just a pretty package. With a family member new to Chicago, we'll become regular visitors, but we'll stay elsewhere.

Great price, great location

from leiny
Yes, the bathroom and the room itself is small, but if you are visiting Chicago, and don't plan to be in your room the majority of the time, STAY HERE.

Nice people, clean lobby, clean rooms, and free continental breakfast. Valet parking is $20 bucks, but the room rates are great, considering it's only a cab ride away from bars, Mag. Mile, and more. Keep in mind the room taxes are high here.

Pier 1, Starbucks, Gap, several other nice stores are right outside the front door. Plus, lots of great restaurants too. You can feel safe here.

I'd stay here again, and recommend it for a cheap, no frills place to sleep and shower.

Value AND Location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Day'sInn Lincoln Park North over a long weekend in mid December, 2004. Pulled up to the door and was immediately met by staff member to take luggage to checkin as well as valet to unburden the car. Had booked the room online at daysinn (cheapest rates for this location) and there were absolutely NO problems with checkin, rates, etc. Luggage was expertly whisked away to our room and waiting for us there. Staff during stay was extremely accomodating (even to the point of calling an hour after checkin to see if everything was to our liking - and offers to meet any needs we may have had). The standard-double room was unremarkable - small by most American's standards, but very clean and orderly. Free continental breakfast was the usual fare for these types of chains, but more than adequate to start the day! Checkout was a breeze and valet was remarkably professional and courteous. Location of the hotel is approx. 4 blocks from the el-stop on diversey - super convenient. Lots of dining, nightlife (boystown) and shopping within easy walking distance of the hotel. For a value stay at a great location, this is it for chicagoland. Do yourself a favor if driving - use the valet service ($20./day). Parking in the immediate neighborhood is all permit/tow zoned.

Hotel was a dump!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this hotel on the 10th of Nov. for 1 night. The room was very small. The window a/c unit was broken, making the room very uncomfortable at times. I booked the hotel online after reading all the good reviews and I have to say overall this place was a DUMP! I would never stay there again...

Hotel and location are fine

from Dublintraveller
Stayed in this hotel for one night ...had a twin room. Location is excellent, at a major intersection but we experienced very little street noise (ask for a quiet room) Area restaurants /shopping/sights are varied and interesting. About a 20 minute bus ride from North Michigan Ave so that's something to consider when choosing this option. The 'El' is close by but did'nt get the opportunity to use it. Hotel lobby and reception staff were ok. It's a welcoming place and staff were ok to deal with. Free continental breakfast was plentiful and of reasonable standard..except no your own if you like fruit at breakfast. The room was your standard Days Inn, but was cosy, quiet and clean. Beds were comfortable....a little noise from neighbouring rooms kept me awake for a while. Parking (overnight) costs $16.50 approx which is'nt that bad.
Overall, YES we'd stay here again (it was the only place we could get for the night in question), but would prefer a place closer to downtown.

Not impressed at all

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel was in a very nice little area, unfortunetely, it was very noisy and the Desk staff was very rude with the exception of Matt and Keith. Everytime I had to ask the desk staff for anything, I felt like I was imposing. The bellmen where the only ones who smiled or said hello and where helpful with giving directions. The room itself was very old and musty. The elevator was very slow and at times I wasn't sure I was going to make it to my floor. I think you are better off staying at a hotel the costs a little more than to have to deal with the Rude front desk staff.
