Historical Traveller Reviews of Club Quarters Wacker Michigan Hotel

Good value

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at Club Quarters - Wacker for a week in September. The rooms are small, but well kept and very clean. The hotel is safe and secure. The staff is courteous and prompt. Overall, this hotel provides a great value for a single traveler or a couple who does not mind being in close quarters.

Good hotel

from ajslc
The hotel is in a great location overlooking the Chicago River. The cafe/bakery next door has great sandwiches. All the shopping you'd ever want and restaurants are a short walk across the bridge.

The rooms are small, but not any smaller than the boutique hotels I've stayed in San Francisco and New York - but the bathrooms were a bit larger than I expected. The rooms are perfect for couples.

My only complaint - the elevators seem to take forever at times.

The hotel was very clean & new. The staff was friendly.

I would go back again!

I booked this room through Cheap Tickets. Prior to our trip I was concerned by some of the negative reviews posted on this web site regarding the "small rooms" and "paper thin walls". Upon arrival the lady at the front desk upgraded our room from a queen size bed to a king size when she noticed our small son was traveling with us. She did this on her own, no questions asked! I was delighted to find our room clean and quite comfortable. While the room was not the biggest room I ever stayed in, it was plenty big enough for the 3 of us. The Club Quarters on Wacker & Michigan is a place I would recommend to anyone wanting a good place to stay in downtown Chicago.

Great Stay at the Club Quarters

from A TripAdvisor Member
My daughter and I stayed at the Club Quarters Hotel on Wacker at Michigan Wednesday, August 18 through Thursday, August 19, 2004 Although our room was small, we totally enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. There is an excellent Italian restaurant at the hotel. It's location is perfect for shopping, the Art Institute and theatre. The room was decorated beautifully and had a coffee pot, hair dryer and great view of the Chicago River. We would definitely stay there again. It was just a few blocks from the Orange Line train we used to get from Midway to downto

Great Hotel with Great Price

from A TripAdvisor Member
We ordered this hotel from hotwire and it was good. This was going to be our first stay at the Club Quarters Hotel located on Wacker and Michigan ave. The price we got was $76 a night. We were 3 adults. When we got to the hotel we noticed it was in a beautiful location. Right in the center of the downtown area close to bustops and walking distance of area attractions. The parking was about a block away from the hotel, 111 Wacker drive. Dont be alarmed of the $30 price of the parking per 24 hours, after you check in the hotel the hotel staff will stamp your parking ticket which means you receive $10 off each day. When we checked in the hotel the staff was very nice and even gave us a bigger room with more beds at no extra charge. We were on the 14 floor. When we got to our room taking the elavator it took us only seconds. Our room had 2 tvs with cable a queen size bed and a sleeper couch. The room also had a microwave and a refrigerator. The rooms were not as small as everyone is saying on this site. It was a regular sized room. What i was very happy with was the room they had with 4 high speed internet computers. Overall this hotel was great! especially for the great price. We stayed there in July.

Small room, nice views, decent price

from Migizi
If you are there on business, and use your room only for sleeping and showering, then it's a good little hotel. Views from the higher floors are downright spectacular. But the room is TINY! No room for anything other than you and your bags. Clean, sparsely appointed, and very spartan in every respect. All business.

Great location, but beware of construction

from A TripAdvisor Member
I booked this hotel thru Hotwire and after reading the reviews, was quite worried what I would find.

I stayed May 24-26th and I had a pleasant stay. The only problem was that taxi's tend to miss it, because of the construction on the fascade.

Yes, the rooms are like the ones in Europe. TINY!, but keep in mind that this hotel is mainly for business people, so it's functional. I was hardly in the room, except for sleep anyway. I did like the microwave and fridge. A plus when warming leftovers. The beds were comfortable

There was your usually bathroom products, iron and coffeemaker as well as a cordless phone. It was nice to do multiple tasks, while on the phone. Free computer and printer access and the restaurant has great Italian food.

What I liked most was the location. You are within walking distance( a few blocks) of the trains and buses. I walked all the way to the cultural center to check out a gallery, then went shopping on State. I had no problem, getting to the orange line to go to to Midway when leaving.

The only real downside was that you had to use your key to operate the elevator. That was a pain! though I did like the privacy it provides. No one can just come to your room. Overall, I'd stay here again, just for the location

Club Quarters will disappoint most travelers...

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is my second Club Quarters experience (the other in San Francisco), and my last. Most people will be disappointed with the really small and poorly laid-out rooms. Also, these are not full-service hotels in the usual sense--they are primarily designed as relatively inexpensive accomodations for traveling business people whose companies pay a fee to join the "Club". They open it up to the public on weekends. The rooms are not adequate for 2 or more people, and although the location is very good, I would highly recommend seeking another hotel, even if you have to pay a little more. And don't even think of packing a family into one of these sardine-can rooms. Do yourself a favor and choose a real hotel instead.

Way too cozy at the Club Quarters.

The Club Quarters at Wacker has a lot of great features. The lcation is excellent, the prices reasonable, it is impeccably clean, reasonably quiet, good security features (and we had no problems with the elevators), and its free computer room, where you can access WiFi or borrow an ethernet cable to connect your laptop (os use one of their computers) is really, really convenient. I recommend it except for one thing. I reserved a room with twin beds. When we arrived, we were told that they only had a room with a queen size bed. That was OK with us, I was traveling with my fiance. The problem is that what they cann a queen size bed is actually a *full* size (I should know: that is the size of my bed at home), and it is way too small for two people. That room should be classified and sold as a SINGLE room, not 1/2 persons room. It is only a negative among many positives, but it pretty much ruined our trip, because we were not able to sleep. So, INSIST for getting what you reserve, and bring a printout of your reservation. Other than this big problem, the hotel is just fine.

Great Location!

from kruskor
My Husband and I stayed at Club Quarters at Wacker this weekend for our first ever trip into Downtown Chicago. It was very easy to find, in a great location, and very affordable. After reading the reviews here, we decided to call them up and request a room on a lower level as to not have to wait for the elevators. We had no troubles waiting for the elevators; they were running pretty fast! Check in was a breeze, as was parking our car in the parking ramp just down the street. We loved the view from our 17th floor room; It overlooked the Chicago-Sun Times building that will be torn down to make way for the new Trump International Building. We will definately be back to Chicago and will stay with Club Quarters in a heartbeat!!

Top Local Tips for Chicago

Skip the Taxi from the Airport! The CTA subway system is THE WAY to get to/from the airports. Only $2.00 per trip and is often much quicker than a cab. Escalators/elevators make traveling with luggage easier.

union station via metra If you want to go to Union Station right away to purchase a visitor pass, don't follow the crowds when you get off the train - Union Station is the other way

Restaurant recommendation Go to Graze -- it's a tapas style restaurant and everything was excellent!
