Top Local Tips for Chicago

Beautiful, Friendly City Mass transit seems easy enough to use for strangers to the city. We sometimes take the South Shore into the city and then use cabs to get from here or there. The cab fares are VERY reasonable. We have also used the bus system, but overall I think the cabs are a better money choice, especially if you have 3-4 in your group. Everywhere we went sightseeing (museums, Sears Tower, restaurants, etc.) people were very friendly and helpful. Overall seems very clean for such a large city. Lake Michigan really sets off this beautiful skyline, or vice versa.

if you are staying at this hotel or around the medical district park at the medical school!! it is much much cheaper for overnight parking compared to everywhere else!

No Need for a Car in Chicago One great thing about Chicago is that you really don't need to have a car while you're there. You can pretty much walk to all major attractions or find a bus or train/subway line that will take you to where you want to go. Although both O'Hare and Midway airports are outside of town, there are plenty of transportation options to get into the heart of Chicago. Traffic on the highways can get pretty congested, so almost any option besides renting a car is a better option. And make sure to visit the downtown both during the day and at night. For my money, the Chicago skyline lit up at night is second to none (NYC included!).
