We stayed at this hotel in June 2004 when we took our nephew to chicago for his 16th birhtday. I don't think I have ever stayed in a more friendly hotel. Right from we checked in until we checked out the staff couldn't have been nicer.
The rooms were fantastic with everything from cd/dvd players to a large collection of cd's that we could use.
Breakfast was served on each the foyer of each floor and was great, huge fresh muffins, plenty of fresh fruit and coffee etc.
The reception that was held in the hospitality room every night at 7pm was superb with great snacks and complimentry drinks. The only thing I would say it, don't let someone get control of the remote for the plasma screen tv!! They seem to forget that there are other people in the room too!
This hotel was fantastic and just a very short walk from the Magnificent Mile, we would definately stay here any time we are in Chicago.

t say enough good things!

Just got back from the Amalfi - it was great! We didn't spend a lot of time actually "in" the room, but it was comfy, the decor was unique, the beds were AMAZINGLY comfortable, especially the pillows! Happy hour is NOT to be missed - top shelf drinks and eats from 5:30 to 7 every night. The zuchini bread on the breakfast tray is to die for! The staff is very helpful and kind as well.

Amalfi Hotel is one of those secret spots of Chicago. Its central location puts you in walking distance from Chicago’s major attractions. The hotel rate is reasonable compared to other chain hotels who “claim” to be better and offer lot less that Amalfi. The customer service was really great and friendly. The hotel offered convenient amenities that I yet haven’t seen in other hotel. For example, they offer a free continental breakfast which is served in the lobby of each floor. Very convenient since you can walk to your room’s floor lobby in a bath robe, get your breakfast, and bring it back to the comfort of your room. The room offered a DVD player with a couple of CD music sets to enjoy in your room. The room also offered a book selection to enjoy in your room. The rooms are chic and contemporarily designed. The bed was heavenly with very soft linen (330 thread linens), plush pillows, and super comfortable mattresses. The room as well as other areas of the hotel was clean and impeccable. We stayed at the 3rd floor and you could hear some of the street traffic noise. That’s unavoidable when you stay in the heart of a major city like Chicago. Definitely my hotel of choice next time I travel to Chicago!!

Unassuming, yet full of surprises.

Our two night stay at the Amalfi was lovely. This is a smaller, unassuming 4 star hotel set on about 6 floors of a larger high-rise in River North, and for us very convenient as we love to walk, and there was something in every direction -- north up Michigan Ave to explore, south over the bridge toward the Art Institute and Millenium Park, etc. Room was comfortable enough in size with crisp, modern decor. A cd player and cd's for your use was a nice touch as was the double shower head and Aveda products in the bathroom. Further surprises included continental breakfast on each floor every morning. You could help yourself to, and return to your room, with cute trays and dishes loaded with fresh pastries, and large mugs of coffee, etc. wearing, of course, your the robe from your room. Then you can return in the evening and enjoy a sumptuous manager's party nightly. It was very friendly and relaxing, and the servers were terrific, and there was a very tasty buffet and drinks. We were impressed, and hope they can continue to offer this quieter setting (almost like a city "doorman building") with its elegant extras. If you need lots of comings and goings, this hotel may be too small and quiet for you, but if you know where you are headed, and enjoy pleasing service, this just might be a good place for you to stay!

t understand what the big deal is

I'm from chicago and I spent a night here with my wife to get away from home. Overall the hotel was quite nice and unique but I didn't think it was worth my $140/night at all. Room was nice and contemporary but smaller than I thought it would be. Plus, its quite a walk if you want to go shopping on the mag. mile. other than the unique decor, this hotel really isn't an awesome find.

Loved, loved, loved the Amalfi!

We stayed at the Amalfi for 5 nights and absolutely loved it! The room was clean and very comfortable with outstanding amenities and extras - like cds and books and dvds for use during the stay. The breakfast was plentiful and beautifully layed out. The evening reception was unexpectedly top-rate. We definitely recommend the Amalfitini! The staff were all extrememly courteous and helpful. We highly recommend the Amalfi and look forward to returning.

A Great Place and Excellent Service

Just spent a weekend at the Amalfi and found the room to be very comfortable and the service is excellent. Also, the location of the hotel is an ideal spot where it is not too busy and is easily accessible to Michigan Avenue. We too enjoyed the breakfast buffet and the convenience of having it on the same floor as your room. Thanks Amalfi!

Amazing Amalfi

After reading the wonderful reviews of the Amalfi here and finding a terrific rate, I booked a room for 4 nights for a mini-vacation in Chicago. The Amalfi was modern & clean, the staff friendly and accomodating. The Aveda products, comfortable bedding, magazines, books and cd's provided were a big plus...not to mention the free continental breakfast and italian goodies at the manager's reception. I recommend this hotel to all and will definitely stay again.

Great hotel!

We stayed from 24 to 27 July and enjoyed our stay. Our room was on the 4th floor facing a bar opposite and on Sat night, we could hear loud noises coming from that area.

The staffs at all levels were friendly. I particularly like the breakfast buffet available at each floor so you do not have to dress up to go downstairs. There was still plenty of hot coffee and pastries left 10 minutes before breakfast finished. The evening reception was equally good with nice snacks and drinks.

Congradulations to all the staffs there in making the place special and hope they continue with the good work!

Loved the Amalfi

A hidden gem! While this is a small boutique hotel, the service exceeds that of some of the popular well-known hotel chains. The morning continental breakfast featuring fresh fruit, pastries and coffee, along with the daily manager's reception add such a bed & breakfast type feel. The experienced designers were extremely helpful and added such a special touch to our experience. We would definitely consider staying at the Amalfi again!

Top Local Tips for Chicago

aurora outlet mall We hired a car and went to Aurora outlet mall which had fantastic shopping bargains there. the journey took about 45-60 mins( can't remember exactly). it was ideal as we could drop off the bags in the boot and start again.Public transport is only by means of a train(unlike N.Y where the coachs go frequently.if you cant drive, the train is an option but there are no lockers at the mall so you will be loaded down with bags.i think a taxi back would be around 70 $ but again not 100 % on the price. worth a trip out here though for bargains, check out premium outlets, com and look for the ones in auroura chicago,

Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me If you're a fan of the public radio show Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me, be sure to go to a live taping in the Loop (10-15 minute walk from the Amalfi Hotel). They are most Thursday nights and tickets are $20. This was probably the highlight of our trip!

E-mail the staff at the Amalfi for deals Often times you can get a decent deal directly with the hotel. Just e-mail them ahead of time and they are happy to accomodate. I book this way every time. Now they know me and always help me out which is yet another reason I keep coming back.
