We recently stayed at the Sawtooth Lodge where it is surrounded by the spectular Sawtooth mts. The location was great. We arrived the first week for the 2010 year. They had recent floods so maybe that explained the lack of upkeep in the cabins. Although the staff was friendly and helpful when asked about the local hikes, the food, not so great. We expected for the $125.00 per night, either food included or that the quality of the food to be better. The linens were old and a bit musty although warm for the cold weather we did not expect. These cabins needs some attention (flooring replaced or cleaned & swept, windows cleaned) and the quality of the food to be at a higher standard and it would be a gem!

This is a small lodge with cabins dating to the 1890s, and a meadow with camping/RV spaces but still maintaining the rustic and genuine hospitality of the old west. The restrooms are clean, the food is fantastic, and the prices are reasonable. The hiking is superb, and this comes from a reviewer with 800 miles and twenty years in the Sawtooth and White Cloud Wilderness. While Red Fish offers a beautiful lake and modern accommodations and shouldn't be missed, Sawtooth offers the opportunity of traveling back a hundred years in time to a portion of the Sawtooths less traveled and magnificently scenic. The staff here is genuine - they respond as family to your needs. The horses appear well heeled and for about half the price of a dude ranch experience, you can experience a true wilderness adventure. The fishing, hot springs in the river, the hot springs pool, and the staff make this a terrific travel bargain. But don't tell anyone! This is a rustic adventure lodging - if you are expecting shampoo samples by the sink, you will be disappointed. But if you've always wanted to backpack but with the comfort of a bed and shower, this is the place for you. Kids have a blast, but there is enough room so that they don't interfere with the adult campfire settings and informal gatherings for cocktails. I like this place. I like these people.
