My visit came in December when my husband and I were looking for a place to escape the hectic holiday pace and rat race. We were told about the Ashley Inn through friends who stayed and couldn't say enough wonderful things about it. The drive up there was memorable. The huge trees heavy with snow, beautiful! When we arrived there was a warm fire to greet us in the lobby. Soothing Christmas music was playing overhead. Beautiful decorations both outside and inside. Hot cookies and hot chocolate were being served. We felt so welcome. All this, prior to us getting settled in our room! When we got to our room, we were thrilled! It was awesome. The room itself was huge. It included a fireplace that was already burning to welcome us in. A theraputic tub for two, A sitting area where we took time to talk and relax with a book and a cup of coffee.
The entire Hotel was decorated for Christmas. I counted 8 decorated trees. Each had a theme. At night they showed the movie "Elf". It was just like going to the movies, but we didn't have to leave our hotel and go out in the cold! I even wore my slippers!
The staff were very pleasant. My husband asked them if they had any massage therapy services available. They called a local massuse and she came to our room and gave us both massages! An early christmas present to ourselves. The cost of the hotel was reasonable, especially with such deluxe accommidations. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that our room also included a huge breakfast. We loved every minute of our stay and will definately return for another get away!

Surprise in the Idaho Mountains

Our first surprise was the beauty of just going up to the Inn from Boise. Highway 55 follows the Payette River into a canyon with lots of whitewater. Cascade - McCall area are all in the midst of changing, mainly because of Tamarack (a new ski/4 season resort) between them. Ashley Inn was our second surprise. It's family owned and has the hospitality that makes you feel like a part of that family. Sitting on the deck outside, I listened to the waterfall while I read my book. A white gazebo sits in the flower garden and I imagined my niece being married there someday. Third surprise was that we could board the Thunder Mountain train right from the Inn, which took us down the spectacular canyon. We loved it and took lots of great pictures from the open air car. Our room was cozy & comfortable with a sitting area in the bay window overlooking the mountains and a fireplace, and yet they said all their rooms are like that (or better!). My fourth surprose was the most amazing to me. There were pieces of furniture in the wide hallways and in our room, with books, china tea cups, and other things like that which made me feel like I was a trusted friend. The rate included a wonderful full buffet breakfast. But, my favorite was the hot cookies they served every night. Since the indoor pool, spa, and fitness room were always open, we didn't feel like we had to hurry to use them. It doesn't even get dark in the summer up there until 10 pm! They had a friendly staff that would do anything for us. We'll definitely make this a regular place to visit.

A Wealth Of Outdoor Sporting Opportunities The Inn offers free use of snowshoes, canoes, kayaks, paddles, etc. One can actually start showshoeing right outside the doors of the Inn. A small lake is very near by for canoeing and kayaking. Free shuttles can take you to downhill and cross-country skiing as well as snowshoeing at nearby resorts. A huge lake is very nearby for boating, water skiing, and fishing opportunities. There's even ice fishing in the winterfor those interested. In the summer there's a myriad of outdoor opportunities, i.e. biking (numerous trails), hiking, golfing, a zip line, natural hot springs, etc.
