The room was clean and the staff pleasant. The view could have been better. Large resort type hotel. The room had a slight mildew odor, but the air conditioning worked well. Wait staff in the restaurants treated us like guests rather than customers.

Top Local Tips for Lihue

Flying out of LiHue When you're leaving Kauai, defintely get to the airport 1 1/2 hour before your flight. The airport is a mad house. The lines to check-in and security are miles long. The airlines seem to bunch their flights together so there may be 3-4 flights going out around the same time which make checking in terrible. I have status on United so I got to go through the short check-in line and it still took me wel over 1 hour to get checked in and through security. Go early is my advise.

Chickens Everywhere! One of the fun things about Lihue are the wild chickens throughout the island. No one knows exactly why they are everywhere but they sure are. Make sure that you go to Lyngate Park for snorkling (especially if you have little ones) and see the canyon.

Major Traffic Jam During Rush Hour Getting out of the hotel parking area is rough during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Be very careful when leaving because either the traffic is really heavy, or if it's not rush hour, cars are speeding by very quickly.
