Nice Stay

from rustravelgirl
My husband and I were in Napili Shores from Feb.26 to March 1st, 2004 for our honeymoon. Even though the weather was bad almost the whole time we were in Maui because of some storm, our stay was really pleasant in this hotel. We had an oceanview studio, and you could see whales playing around every day! Even though there is no beach where you can swim (you can do it a bit further away), the ocean view was great, with a view of island of Molokai. Rooms are clean, you have all utensils you need (full kitchen setting, even a dishwasher). There are 2 pools (one heated), a jacuzzi, a cafe and a restaurant on the property. The tropical garden setting is also great. There are several grills outside also. But I was even more impressed with the staff, who were really accomodating to us when we got stranded on the island because of an airport accident that happened there the day we were supposed to leave. They gave everybody who got stranded a discount and were really really helpful. I would definitely come back there, only wish the weather will be better next time.

Loved the Napili Shores Resort

from dkw55
Really enjoyed the Napili Shores Resort. Just the type of low key resort my family enjoys. Right on the water, but must walk a few feet to beach. It was too rough when we were there to do any snorkling in the bay there, which I understand is usually good snorkling. Was great for the boogie boarders though! Located just a half block or so to Snorkel Bobs where you can rent snorkle gear and boogie boards. View of ocean from Ocean View room was through a tree. Some of the rooms were better. Ocean front would have been great, but those were only studios. New restaurant had just opened and was quite good. Gazebo was wonderful for an ocean side breakfast or lunch. I would definitely return to this resort.

our "ocean view" accommodations were abandoned by the staff (paid in advance) and we were given a view of grass, trees and shrubs. While we were also given a refund, that just doesn't cut it. The rooms were small, no AC and parking is a problem. Our first meal in our unit was graced by the presence of a cockroach on the placement which had been removed from the drawer. Not likely to return.

A slice of heaven

We found this property, the staff, the location, etc to be everything we expected it to be. OUR STAY WAS GREAT! At first, I was a little concerned because I read the review from a person from California that said he didn't like the gardens and immediately left for the property next door. Let me tell you, I wouldn't switch from Napili Shores for anything. The shower of tropical flowers daily (fragrant to boot) were stunning. The grounds were immaculate and we had a big a colorful flower bush right off our porch. We booked an oceanview unit and enjoyed the waves putting us to sleep every night. Just for grins, I checked out the property that the negative reviewer posted and they don't have any restaurants (they have two great ones at Napili Shores) and I bet he sneaked back to Napili Shores to use the hot tub because I didn't see one of those over their either. If you do visit Maui, be sure to do some snorkeling. The undersea world is stunning. We enjoyed both restaurants at Napili Shores, but also try Gerards in Lahaina, Kimo's on Front St. and Sansei in Kapalua. The drive to Hana was good, but took a whole day. We did a helicopter trip too and it was worth it, although a little expensive (can save money by barbequeing on property nightly). Overall a great stay and I can recommend this property highly.

Two great visits to Napili Shores

from OHTX94
We've stayed at Napili Shores twice about 10 years apart. Every day we walked down to the beach, snorkeled for a while and otherwise vegged out. We could sit on our lanai and see and hear the ocean with Molokai in the distance. Unlike the people from California who could see the yard instead of the ocean, we figured that booking oceanfront instead of gardenview would take care of that. I imagine these are the same people who get $79 per night rooms 6 blocks from Waikiki beach behind the Denny's dumpster and then complain that Honolulu is too commercial.
We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at Napili Shores but once in a while we would drive to Lahaina or the Hula Grill at Kaanapali. Just wish we were there when would drive to Lahaina or the Hula Grill at Kaanapali. Just wish we were there when the whales were.

Pleasantly surprised!

Being accustomed to more typical "resort" style hotels and never having stayed in a condo, I had some reservations about this site at first.
Boy, was I pleasantly surprised. The room and grounds were so well kept and immaculate. While the hotel may not technically be situated on the beach, it's certainly close enough. We had a studio garden room, which was more than enough room for a couple. Thought I'd miss an ocean view, but didn't since the garden courtyard setting is so lovely. Loved our lanai (where we got engaged!) and the peaceful surroundings. I suspect it may have been more peaceful because we stayed in mid-September, while kids were back in school. We were so happy to be away from the Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach crowds, yet were close enough to drive, when we wanted a bit more activity. Outstanding snorkeling and yummy mac nut-pineapple-banana pancakes at the Gazebo (the wait is not as bad as it appears).

As other reviewers mentioned, can be a bit warm at night with no AC, but it wasn't too bad. After visiting some of the other rundown and/or bustling Maui hotels, we'd DEFINITELY return to the peaceful Napili Shores Resort.

Cannot see ocean, dark rooms, we left.

from A TripAdvisor Member
These are dark hotel rooms, kind of like a college dorm, disappointing at these prices. You have to leave your unit if you want to see or hear the ocean. Our view was lawn, trees and shrubs....I can see those at home. We flew all the way to Maui to see and be near the ocean. Stayed two days until we found a much nicer place and it was right next door at Napili Point. Their units cost a little more but were larger and are all right on the Ocean. Considering what we paid just to fly here the extra $ for the room made our vacation turn out so much nicer. If you want to see plants stay here. If you want to see the ocean, stay at Napili Point Resort. We will go back to Napili Point.

s a condo

from A TripAdvisor Member
I guess I just didn't know what to expect b'cuz I've always stayed at hotels. It was like staying at someone's apartment. The grounds are a campus of 2-story buildings. You enter the condo from the outside. There's no AC because the temperature in Napili is pretty moderate. The only problem with this is that humidity can't be controlled. Sleeping with the sliding-glass doors open to keep air circulating was okay, except that there was noise from the waves and wind (it's very breezy in napili). The decor is okay, one wall was all brick painted yellow. This place is good for a family or for people who really want their own full kitchen. I had Pleasant Hawaiian move me to any other avail. hotel so I went to the Royal Lahaina.

Nice but. . .

from PSU_travel_mom
My family spent a week here in June, 2003, and were generally pleased with the experience. The grounds are well maintained, the pools are attractive, and Napili Beach is beautiful. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, but that is typical for Hawaii, I have found. Some caveats: if you are in anything other than the two beachfront buildings you will have very little privacy, as your unit will open out into the resort common area, which gets a lot of foot traffic. Large groups favor this place, so expect a lot of noise, especially at the pool areas. A lot of smokers seemed to have taken up residence the week we were there. The units are very well laid out, but SMALL. The "ocean view" buildings have a very limited view- reflecting the fact that this complex is not actually on the beach, but rather on the cliff next to the beach.Although there is no air conditioning in the units, we never missed it. There was a lot of construction going on next door, but that may not be typical. The restaurant was very popular, and has a fantastic location, but the food really isn't that great (no, not even the macadamia nut pancakes- but I think people are really hungry once they get through that line!) Be sure to look for individually owned units on the internet before you book with the resort- they are significanly cheaper.

Great location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is a nice hotel and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
The grounds were beautiful, very clean, and well maintained. The room was very clean but could use a little updating. Take the time to walk down to the grass facing the ocean one evening, sit on the lounge chairs, and watch the sunset and the turtles very relaxing. The location is unbeatable and I would absolutely stay here again!
