Nice Location

We had a very nice corner oceanfront 2br unit on our stay here. Need to watch however because not all of the units are as nice. Our traveling companions had a unit that was nowhere near as nice. Only a short walk to the beach, and about a 10 minute walk to Whaler's Village whihc is nice. Very good beach and the private beach cabana only for El Dorado guests is great. It has ice, beach equipment, launge chairs, shade, just about anything you'd want. Pools were ok. If I had to stress one thing it would be to call the property and ask when the last time your unit was remodeled before arriving.

Bring your bleach and Lysol , if your staying at the Eldorodo,

We did! First room we were told it was "Renovated", but the water pipe was leaking on the floor, and the room was dirty. Second room was dirty also, the carpet next to the bed had piles of dust, tile in the shower was blacken mold in places.All the white cabinets had black hand prints stained into the paint. When we wanted to leave they gave us a suite, it was supposed to be the best. The room was large, and on second level, had a good view, but we still had to add bleach to the bathroom tile,sink and tub to clean black mold off. Floor was never mopped for the week we were there. This is the obvious, could you imagine what you can not see. This place has potential if it was just clean. We would not consider staying here again.

I have been staying at the Eldorado for the last thirty two years in my parents condo. I have recently stayed in other condos at the Eldorado however. We had a great one bedroom (which split to a two bedroom with a partition) plus pull out couch.

If you want room service, on the beach accomodations or some kind of spa thing - don't stay here. This resort is not for snobs or those who are looking for some kind of fancy schmancy place to stay. This is for the people who truly want to experience Maui. Stay here, go to the farmer's market for your fresh fruits and veggies (twice a week in Honokowai - ask at the front desk), go to the local bakery for their fabulous portuguese sausage croissants! Winter time is notorious for having the most sand on the beach, summer time has a scarcity. If you don't want to walk to the beach (takes all of 3 minutes) you can go to the front desk and they will take you down in the shuttle to the cabana. All in all, a great place to stay.

We just back today from our week long stay in Maui at the Eldorado. I rented direct from the owner through vrbo.com and was a little nervous about it. The condo exceeded our expectations! It was huge-about 1200 sq. ft. All the furnishings and appliances were brand new and it was immaculate. Big bathroom so we weren't crowded getting ready to go out, patio with table and chairs and lounger. It was beautifully decorated and well equipped. Our unit was two steps to one of the pools and BBQ's. It was a short walk to Whaler's village for shopping and dinner.
We ate the Hula Grill and it was excellent. The cabana was closed for repairs and it would have been nice to go down to the beach and have bathroom, shower, drinks, etc. This is a quiet and uncrowded place which was great for us, if we wanted more action, we just spent the day at Kaanapali beach. After looking at the Marriott and Westin which were both extremely crowded and overrun with kids, I knew had made a good choice-plus I had the satisfaction of knowing I paid one-third the price!. It was very relaxing coming "home" to our quiet condo and there were never more than 6-8 people at the pools, mostly less. We saved a lot of money by having breakfast and most lunches in the condo. Perfect for families with two queen beds in the extra large bedroom and a queen sofa sleeper in the living room. I would definitely stay here agian. Good place to stay

Stayed here from 10/31 until 11/6 in a 1BR condo. I concur with the last two writers comments. This is definitely the place to stay if you like lots of room to move around, a kitchen to store soda and sandwich fixings and a huge private lanai where you can eat a meal or just lay out on a lounge chair. This is not the place if you want room service and a spa. The beach cabana was great.....you can easily walk down the stairs to the sand and swim anywhere along Kaanapali Beach. My only recommendation is that when you arrive ask to see the unit you are given before accepting it. We were first given a ground floor unit that looked like it hadn't been remodeled since the "Rat Pack" days. I immediately called the front desk about my disappointment and we were graciously transferred to a lovely modern unit. Each condo is furnished by the owner so each unit can have a very different look & feel.
Outside of this everything else was absolutely wonderful! I'd definitely go back.

i live on maui, and got a room at the el dorado for halloween nite. i reserved a one bedroom suite at a very reasonable price on the internet. the staff was wonderful. we were upgraded at no cost to a two bedroom suite that looked out onto the golf course. the suite was large and bright and perfect for our needs. clean, updated, quite a nice surprize, after reading the one review on this hotel. i would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in kaanapali. no it is not on the beach, but the view is still the same, and the beach is not that far away to walk to. the staff was very accomodating and friendly.

Well, here's the skinny on the Maui El Dorado...yes, it is an older resort condo. And yes, the grounds/buildings are due for some updating.
But all in all-and for the great rates-it's a pretty nice place. The pools are nothing special, and need some sort of shade (trees or umbrellas at least.) The "beach cabana" is a little disappointing and there isn't much of a beach below to sit on. But we thought our 1 bedroom unit was great-clean, spacious, quiet, well outfitted, etc. And the walk to Kaanapali beach(where all the action is) takes only ten minutes. If you are looking for a cheap condo near Kaanapali, this is a good bet. If you want luxury, stay at one of the big hotels on the beach.

We just returned from our honeymoon and spent 8 nights at the Eldorado. We had a one bed room condo with a partial ocean view room. The condo was huge, almost too big for the two of us, with two full bathrooms, a large living room with a pull out couch, big kitchen, and large master bedroom. Plus it had a great porch with a nice view and with a full table and two lounge chairs. The condo could easily have fit 4 people for a week. The Eldorado is perfect for people who plan to spend their days out and about exploring the island. This is not the place for people to stay if they want a super luxorious resort or plan to spend all of their time at their hotel. Though there is so much to do on Maui that I can not imagine spending your days at a resort; you will miss so much! It was about a 10 minute walk to Kannapali Beach, which made a very enjoyable morning or evening walk. The grounds were very pretty and spotless. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a great time in Maui. I recommend renting a car and touring the island on your own. The tour companies will tell you that you need guided tours, but this is not true. Rental cars can go on all of the roads. I also recommend doing a snorkel trip, definitely worth the money.

We stayed early september 2003 and enjoyed it very much our room was clean, the staff was very nice and helpful, The grounds were nice and clean, it was quiet,we didnt hear our neighbors, We did not have a bug problem at all, the 10 minute walk to the beach was enjoyable to us, we used the beach in front of the Sheraton hotel it was great, No charge for hotel parking(save about $70 dollars there) covered parking, everything we needed for cooking in the kitchen, Nice place to grill your own steaks at the pool. We WILL stay there again. Only problem we had with anyone would be the tour guide didnt care for her much. We took the trip to moloka'i on the ferry and a tour of the island we feel that it was way overpriced and we did not see any real beauty of the island ,they were more into taking us to places to buy things alot of wasted time,will not do that again, the ferry ride over there is ruff, alot of sick people, if you get sea sick be ready! If you go" dont take the tour "rent a car instead, the people that did this saw more than we did. We loved Maui and the Eldorado will go again asap.

I have stayed at the Eldorado many times over the last 15 years and find that it is an outstanding condo resort and you get lot for the price.

I have read some of the negative comments from other guests and their comments tell me a lot.

.. We got a great deal from the owners but it was a terrible place.....

Many people do not realize that there is only one officially sanctioned rental program at the Eldorado and it is managed by Outrigger hotels- (about 100 units)Outrigger in the past several year has raised the standard in the units they manage by requiring the rental owners to upgrade the units or be dropped from the program.

So here is the thing. Owners who rent on their own have the right to use the services of the front desk , but have no obligation to upgrade or maintain their unit to any standard. These owners then undercut the rental program by offering low prices, no maid service etc.

True the Eldorado is not on the beach, but the official rental program does note make that claim nor does it make a claim of full ocean view.

If you want large spacious units that have been upgraded and a freindly service staff the Outrigger Eldorado is the place to stay.

My wife and I have always enjoyed our stay at the Eldorado and we prefer it to the large box like overpriced hotel rooms in Kaanapali Beach

True " you get what you pay for" but be sure you rent at the Eldorado from the Outrigger plan and you will not be disappointed.

Top Local Tips for Lahaina

Front Street Has Everything Go and spend one night down at Front Street. I would just suggect parking a few blocks back towards Highway 30 cause the closer yo get to Front, the more chaotic the traffic get. There are so many different stores along front street. Plus, the Banyan Tree (down by the Lahaina Harbor) and the Lahaina Courthouse are there. The Old Fort is also right there at the harbor. Just a little history lesson on the town. Moose McGillycuddy's is a fun cheaper place to get burgers. Also a few blocks back from Front is Kobe's Japanese Steak house. I'm not an oriental food person, but I had the filet and it was fantastic. Very pricey, but well worth the money for the show these guys put on while the cook right at your table!!!!

Take the free shuttle Take the free shuttle to Whaler's Village and then the Maui bus to Lahaina for $1.

Cheese Burger in Paradise The burgers at Aloha Mixed plate are actually better.
