Top Local Tips for Lahaina

whale watching Before you buy a whale watching trip, look around, especially around Lahaina front street to compare prices. We went on the Pacific Whale Foundation (great trip plus free breakfast and lunch and free cocktails for $65) trip to Molikini and another island and booked it prior to coming thru an agency. we got a pretty good deal. We were thinking about doing the submarine trip and it was 1/3 the price if you bought it in Lahaina instead of at an agency.

Pioneer Inn Tavern The tavern at the Pioneer Inn is a great place to see some of the local characters. During one stay, we were propositioned by a "Captain Ron" type character to charter his boat, even though he was bound to be quite hung-over in the morning. On our recent trip, a Harley riding 40-something woman was refused service for frequent non-payment of her bar tab and threatening remarks to the bartenders. This is a very entertaining place away from the hotel lobby bars.
