Historical Traveller Reviews of Napili Kai Beach Resort Hotel

rooms smell musty,great location

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I spent the 1st half of our honeymoon here. The parking was limited, but I loved the walkways to get to our room. Our room was musty smelling and a little dated, but I was still happy with it. The resturant was nice with good food and had a excellent ocean view. The service was great. The beach was suberb although we were there in early march 2004 and the water looked brown..that may be from all the rain the had just had.

toll!

We have been to this hotel twice. Plan to send our son on his honeymoon there. Beautiful "old hawaii" feel. Not for the jet setter. Super snorkling on 2 beaches within walking distance of one another. Excellent food. How could anyone possibly complain about this awesome (toll!) gem????

Great Week at Napili Kai Beach Resort

from jverdun
My wife, 16 year old daughter and I spent 7 days at Napili Kai Beach Resort 8/31-9/7. We had a beach front studio, Rm. 30, and it was spacious and immaculate- new kitchen and bath, king bed and roll-away. The lanai overlooked pool, cabana and beach. Adjacent restaurant was superb. Excellent food, friendly service- beautiful crescent beach- we will return!

The person that said that Napili Kai is a dump is out of his/her gourd. It's a wonderful place to stay. I wont stay any place else!!

Stayed at Napili Kai this past June 2004 and going back this Nov. 2004. Excellent, clean, fun and beautiful beach. The Sea House resurant is great! A little pricey but, the food is scrumptous. Go see the Kiki show on Tue. night. Very cute show and the kids were great!

Stayed in room #4, with no AC but, didn't need it whatsoever with the ocean breeze. I'll tell ya....it's better than the ocean views and about a 10 second walk to the water. In fact they are the best rooms in that section on the whole place if you are a serious beach goer. The snorkeling is really good. Need more sea life there but, it's a fun snorkel. I'm a scuba diver so I guess I'm spoiled.

Oh and about bugs there.......when you walk into the lobby, it's all open in there. The doors never shut. Of course bugs are going to walk in. It's Maui!! Can't get around that in any resort unless they bug bomb every week. Every place I've stayed on Maui has an assortment of bug critters. I had more roaches in my rental car than at Napili Kai. Actually I saw no roaches at Napili!

I totally recommend Napili Kai Beach Resort. I will continue to stay there. It's quiet, romantic and the sunsets are the BEST on Maui with the view of Molokai' and Lanai.'

Cool place to stay

This place was pretty neat. Great beach and a great next door beach. snorkeling was awesome. the beach has a view of 2 islands in the distance. nice resort spot, Lahaina is a pretty busy place, napili is alot calmer. this was our first time to hawaii, but WHEN I go back, i would not take a chance on another place. in summer time, you do want AC. our room didn't have AC. we upgraded to a better view of the ocean and with AC for $100 for 5 nights. Big whirlpool, great pineapple and parking was never a problem for us. so many flowers and plants on the resort. don't have a bad thing to say about this place.

Peaceful Maui

My boyfriend and I stayed at Napili Kai for the first time in early June, 2004. We were in Unit 126. I picked Napili Kai based on reviews I had read. We were not disappointed. The room was fantastic, air-conditioned, with kitchen, and had a beautiful full ocean view. I used to live on Oahu many years ago but Napili Kai's beach is the best beach for swimming and snorkeling I've ever found. We saw thousands and thousands of fish, just a few feet from shore. The highlight was when we saw the sea turtles playing on the bottom and then surfacing up for air. It is a beautiful, quiet, uncrowded, friendly resort, just a few miles north of the craziness of Kaanapali Beach. And a great bargain! I can not wait to go back.

Classic Old Hawaii

from A TripAdvisor Member
We've stayed at Napili Kai over 10 times and find that it is one of the best places in Hawaii.

It is low rise, low-key and very relaxed. The extras: morning coffee and pineapple at the beach cabana, the weekly putting party with bargain drinks, the weekly mai tai party, tours of the garden and much more. Most rooms offer a kitchette which can save you a bundle of $$$ in meals.

It is not glitzy and sanitized like the big luxury hotels where you are 1 of a 1000+ guests, no disco, no stuffed shirt dining room.

If you want an old style Hawaii experience then stay here.

Almost Heaven but Not Quite

from weekiwacheekid
Just returned from a 5 night stay at this resort. Room was satisfactory but you had to be a giraffe to consider it ocean view as we had specified in our rez. Also there was noise from the rooms next door and also in the breezeway. There were not enough parking spots for guests so quite often we had to park in a handicap space or not park at all. There were no umbrellas available if you wanted to lie on the beach and avoid the sun. On the plus side Napili Kai is beautifully located and its open air restaurant serves generally delicious
food but avoid the lamb chops.

Bugs

We decided to book Napili Kai for the second half or our Honeymoon (4/2-4/12/04) and were disappointed / uncomfortable upon first laying eyes on it. After a lovely stay at Kauai Coast Resort, which was very clean, lush, and recently renovated, my husband's first impression of Napili Kai was that it was a dump. I kept an open mind, feeling that it could be a little unfair to the hotel since it was older than our previous one.
First some positives: the beach is great. We spent our whole first day there reading, getting some sun, snorkeling, boogie boarding etc. Definitely a plus. The restaurant had good food, although the service was lacking. Also, the employees were very good.
The room was a bit dated, felt a bit worn. We had a great view of the gardens and a peek of the ocean from our balcony. The big problem were the bugs. Yes, we were in a tropical climate but having roaches in the room with you (we found one dead on the floor and saw one scurrying along) is NEVER fun. Called to let the front desk know that we were leaving and they offered us another room on the same floor of the building. Went to check it out and right as we walked in there were atleast 6 beetles on the floor. Long story short, we ended up moving to the Hyatt Regency and getting a great oceanview room at a discounted rate (the manager was kind enough to give us the local rate or else we would have been charged $260/night).
In short, Napili Kai is a great location, decent price, decent rooms, but watch out for all the 6 legged friends that may come creeping along. Hope our experience was an isolated one. :)

Lovely beach, lovely resort.

A large crew from my family stayed here during January 2003 for my mom's 60th birthday. We had a lovely time! We stayed in a room that overlooked the pool and the beach. We were on the second (top) floor of the building and slept with the sliding doors wide open. Waking to the sound of the ocean waves was awesome and is what I miss the most!
Pros:
1)The restaurant is great. The food is nothing to write home about, but the location is wonderful--right on the water. We had breakfast there every day and it's a great place to grab a fruity "girl-drink" in the evening.
2)The staff is great, especially the concierge. The gal we worked with was so helpful to us, helping us decide on and booking activities for our vastly differing needs. One of the best, by the way, and not to be missed: The Feast at Lele in Lahaina. Do not go to any other luau. This is the only one worth your time and money! It is wonderful!
3)There was a decent kitchen in the room. The fridge was full-size, so we were able to keep all of our leftovers in there and we could heat them up right there in our kitchen! (I don't remember how we did it--did we have a stove or a microwave? It was a while ago!)
Cons:
There weren't really any! If you're looking for glamour and fancy poolside massages, head up to the next bay--Kapalua. If you want a low-key resort with a gorgeous, un-crowded beach, stick with Napili Kai. It's a great place to be.
