Beautiful Hotel

from BostonBackBayer
Just got back from Maui and Oahu. The Marriott on Kaanapali beach is beautiful, particularly the beach and pool. The rooms were clean and slightly above average in size. Nice touch was the free refrigerator, but don't drink the water--it costs $4.50!! There are not that many room available since this is a timeshare resort and is expected to be 100% timeshares in 2 years, so go now before it is too late. We visited the Westin next door which is alot more money, but the grounds look the same and I can't imagine the rooms are any better than the Marriott.
While we stayed in an Ocean View room that overlooked the pool area, the mountain-view rooms are also beautiful, so you can save money.

Just Beautiful

Visited here in July, 2003. We used our Marriott points to stay there and to fly over there. Were very pleased to see such a nice resort when we drove up in our rental car. The bellman were eagerly waiting to help you, as were the staff at the front desk. We did upgrade our room to an outside room with ocean view. It was well worth watching the sun rise and the sun set. You have wonderful views of the magnificent pool, which stretches around a waterfall. The food was good at the poolside restaurant. We did eat sushi there, that did take a while - very busy.
The hotel is open in the middle, with courtyards and seating areas.
Would definitely stay here again. My kids can't wait, ages 13 & 15 now.
The rooms were oversized with plenty of room for four, also had a refrigerator.

Beautiful Resort

My wife & I rented a one-bedroom villa for our honeymoon. The beautiful outdoor lobby set the tone and nothing disappointed. The room was impeccably clean, the staff was very friendly, and the grounds were just beautiful. Staying right along the beachside path was great. The pool was impressive (although a bit crowded with kids perhaps), it was still nice.

We had cereal & made sandwiches for our daily journeys around the island and the room was always cleaned up with the dishwasher already run when we returned. The parking was convenient and we just enjoyed walking through the pretty grounds on our way to our villa. The Beachside Cafe was reasonably priced & friendly. We enjoyed walking up the path in the evenings to Whaler Village.

No complaints, we had a great honeymoon & the views from our room were outstanding. The rooms are situated that almost every room has a water view.

Good Vacation!

Vacationed here last Sept. in one of the timeshare 1-bed room suites.
Large beautiful bedroom w/lanai but sofa/chair in the Living Room were hard and very uncomfortable. Our place overlooked the pool area, and it was lovely sitting on 2nd lanai watching the pool boys lighting the many tiki torches at dusk around the resort. There's nothing much to do here at night once the sunset is over unless you go off premises, and you may be a little reluctant to do that since your parked rental car can be so far away. We finally used the valet service; it was reasonable/valets were accommodating. In fact, all the Marriott employees we came in contact with were pleasant. Nice pool bar/restaurant -- burgers were exceptional. But, if I remember correctly, it closed early at 8 PM. All in all, we'd go back to this property in a heart beat! The 1st time we visited Maui, we stayed at a private condo which was soooo quiet -- the Marriott was much better since there was alot of pool activity and nice guests to talk with.

I just found this website and wish I had found it earlier. This hotel was horrible. I've done a lot of traveling and have stayed in hotels at both ends of the spectrum; from 5 star to 1 star. This rates about a 2.
When we arrived, we were told our room was not ready; please come back in an hour. We took two hours and they still didn't have a room for us.
Eventually, we got a room and it was standard fare. Stains everywhere and a TV that didn't work. Housekeeping was horrible too. We know they came in to check the trash and make the bed, but they didn't change soap or towels. I had to call housekeeping to get clean towels. The real rub was the luau. The hotel had a well known luau and I thought we'd get a good rate by reserving through the hotel. Well, you're better off going into town to make the reservation. We sat with people that night who got reservations at half-price. To make a long story short, we didn't like anything about the hotel and will never go back.
However, not all was lost with this vacation. We checked out of the Marriott and went to the Renaissance. Big difference. Since I wanted to escape from the Marriott, we arrived at the Renaissance a little early.
Our room was not available. I thought this was going to be an instant replay and I thought the vacation was going to be a disaster. The receptionist immediately found us an upgraded room at no additional charge. That was the beginning of a very pleasant stay at a hotel that cared. I wrote a letter to the Marriott expressing my displeasure in their facility. I never got an answer.

Great for Kids/Whale Watching

from JohnChicago_IL
If you have children with you this is a great place. My 5 & 7 year old loved the pools. There is a kiddie pool and a massive pool with slides, waterfalls, etc. Pools are heated. The Food court they have is very handy for getting a snack or even a quick dinner. Perfect for picking up asomething for the children. The rooms are typical Marriott style.
We had two double beds and a sofa sleeper. Our room was on the 6th floor which was outstanding for Whale watcher!!! Get 4th floor or higher. The Laua was also very good.

What a great place!

This place is absolutely wonderful. I have been to Maui twice, and stayed next door at the Hyatt. For $150 dollars less, the Marriot rooms were nicer, newly renovated, and the environment every bit as good.

This place is paradise. They offer every amenity, and they offered by far the breakfast buffet I have ever had. I never knew how good pineapple could really taste. From the view, the pools, the staff, it was all incredible. Compared to some of the other hotels along the front, its price is reasonable. That being said, be prepared to spend tons of money in this area of maui. $9 drinks and $12 hamburgers are the norm. But it really is a once in a lifetime experience.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and it is paradise.
Location, right on the beach. Property, anything you could need or want. Service, excellent. If you are looking for something special, you will find it here. You will not be dissapointed, unless you have some major attitude deficiencies or are impossibe to please.

Awesome Pools and Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed here after Christmas 2003. What a terrific trip! We LOVED the Marriott - the employees were nice and treated us with respect. The pools are amazing and the location is perfect - right at the beach! The laui is only so-so but everything else was great. The room was clean and large and up-to-date. We will definitely stay here again!

Truely Paradise

We stayed at the Maui Mariott on a special offer I received in the mail. We knew going into it that we'd have to sit through the timeshare presentation. We went to the presentation and respectively declined the offer. There was no pressure and we enjoyed the tour. A couple of days later in our stay we relized this was a place we would want to return to. We contacted our sales person and signed up. We were even luck enough to be there the day that JW Mariott decided to visit and we got our picture taken with JW. The Maui Mariott is a very special place.
The timeshare suites are fantastic and the pool is fabulous. We now look forward to every visit and I wouldn't give it up for the world. If your looking for a great family vacation spot in paradise I would highly recommend the Maui Mariott.

Top Local Tips for Lahaina

Great Restaurants & not so great. You have to try Roy's Kahana Bar & Grill. 5 Star. Awesome chocolate souffle! We didn't eat at Leilani's this trip. We tried. They seem to have a lot of young girls at front desk and they are very snotty and don't care to please. We felt the same way last time and after we got past them the rest of the staff and food was great.

Aloha Mixed Plate Take a drive to Lahaina to the Aloha Mixed Plate where mostly locals go. Excellent Mai Tai's and great food. We loved it so much we went back three times and not so touristy there. Outdoors and just great views.
