We really enjoy Pacifi Beach Hotel. The staff go out of their way. Rooms are clean , and the acquarium restarant is something we never tire of visiting. We have stayed at Pacific Beach several times, and will stay again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Pacific Beach Hotel at Waikiki

Excellent value!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at PB Hotel for 5 nites in early July and was not disappointed at all. My experience at the hotel exceeded all the positive reviews I'd read on the internet. The location is great -- just across Kalakaua Ave from Waikiki Beach; less than 100 yards to Kuhio Ave to catch the bus line; 3 minute walk to Kapiolani Park; in general, at the quieter end of Waikiki . The staff was extremely friendly and attentive to our needs. Stayed in the tower away from the beach. All public areas of the hotel and my guest room were modern, bright and very well maintained. Bathroom was on the small side but had new fixtures and very clean. For a standard class hotel room which I found at great rate of $89 per nite on Orbitz, I had a partial ocean view and a city view from my balcony -- an excellent bargain! I liked the fact that the property did not smell musty or damp at all, like many hotel properties in Hawaii or anywhere in the tropics can smell due to the constant heat and humidity. The hotel staff do an excellent job in keeping the place sparkling and looking well kept and put together. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone and would stay there again with hesitation.

Nice clean hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I spent 8 days at the Pacific Beach Hotel and found it quite nice. They originally set me up for an ocean view room, but it was a smoking room, so I opted for a partial view non-smoking room. The partial view room is nice, housekeeping was great and aside from occasional loud teenagers the hotel was quiet. I wouldn't recommend the Oceanarium restaurant - the $30 dinner buffet was not worth it.

Just got back

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just got back from my first trip to Hawaii. 6 days, 6 nights at the Pacific Beach Hotel. It's a nice, clean comfortable hotel...with the Oceanaquarium being a must see. Had their buffet breakfast everyday...it was part of my travel package. It was nothing special, typical french toast, eggs (too runny for me), bacon, sausage. But it helped...I didn't have to spend money on buying breakfast. There is a McDonald's right across the street..just in case. The room was your standard hotel room. Great comfortable size for my 10 year old son and myself. Nice size lanai (balcony). The hotel provides 2 beach towels to be used, but brought back each time for replacement. They also give you complimentary beach sandals (nothing special, one size), but comes in handy. Our housekeeper kept us furnished with towels, and to my surprise cleaned the sand out of my personal sandals. My son & I grew so comfortable and accustomed with the hotel, that when we left, it felt like we were leaving our own home. We had an ocean view room. The one we had (room 816), was a side view looking at the beach and west, with a couple of other hotels. But the view was still great. One complaint about the room would have to be, the noise from either the restaurant across the street air conditioning sytem, or the hotel's air conditioning system. It was constantly on..which led to humming sound. It wasn't that bad, since we were out most of the time. But if you had the balcony window open, you heard it. One other minor complaint would have to be the uncomfortable matress...stiff as a rock. I woke up with a backache everday. My son had no problem, but he's 10.Don't expect to see a nice big hotel pool. It's just a lap pool that goes up to 6 ft. While we were there, it was being used by little children and their parents. It does have a jacuzzi though.I plan on going back hopefully next year, if not sooner. I would definitely stay at the Pacific Beach again and would highly recommend it to others.

Below expectations for a four-star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I would not recommend a standard room - they are well below the standard I expect for a 4-star hotel. The carpet was old as the hills, they put me in a smoking room and wouldn't move me, the sheet had multiple tiny rips in it, the safe was broken and ate my quarter, there was no phone by the bed, and even the glass in the bathroom had old toothpaste saliva around the rim - disgusting! The location is great, the restaurants are extremely good. I _might_ stay there again if I got a very good price on a room that is better than standard. Would be interested in what folks thought of the partial ocean view rooms, the next step up.

Hawaii is out of this world

We have just returned from our trip to Hawaii we stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel which has a huge fish tank right in the restaurent,a diver goes in a few times a day to feedthe fish.We can not fault this hotel right on the beach and very friendly staff. This was a special holiday for us as it was our 25th wedding anniversary and the hotel made it for us.We would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Great start to a Honeymoon

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent the first five nights of our honeymoon at the Pacific Beach hotel and had a great time. The location is spot on within easy reach of everything you need and the best part of the beach. The rooms were a little dated but a good size, clean and you couldn't fault the service. Didn't use the restaurant but the oceanarium looked very impressive. Staff (like most Hawaiians) were friendly and helpful. We'd definitely consider coming back here.

Very Nice

from LoveToTravelAlbanyNY
This hotel is very nice . . . the best feature is the location. It is right across from the beach and is so convenient to most everything. The rooms are not fancy but are clean. Being in the heart of activity, it is a bit loud but this is to be expected. Choose the ocean tower and get a room on a higher floor.

enjoyed the stay

from pearlking222
We went to Waikiki on May 8-14. We stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel. It was a pleasant experience. When we first arrived we were greeted so nicely. The rooms were oceanfront, giving us a good view and plenty of room. The rooms were not very lavish, but were nice, neat, and clean. The service at the hotel was outstanding and everyone was friendly. The location is excellent. The hotel is right on the beach (the main street is actually between the hotel and the beach, but it is that way with the majority of the hotels). We would just walk right out of our room and be on the beach or going to one of the shops. Hawaii is perfect and I would definately stay at the Pacific Beach again.

Excellent hotel for the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was our final hotel out of three during our stay in the Hawaiin islands, and we couldn't have asked for enything better, particularly as the price was so reasonable. The room was large, light and airy, nicely decorated with a wonderful view (we were on honeymoon so had been upgraded to an ocean view room.) The main part of the hotel was very smart, the restaurants were good, and the oceanarium amazing. The location of the hotel was excellent too being on the best stretch of waikiki beach, we would stay here again without a doubt.

Top Local Tips for Honolulu

Use The Bus The Bus is cheap $2.00 and tha gets you a transfer thats good for three hours. It is also very simple and convenient.

Get a really really good map! Getting around Honululu, we found, to be difficult. Get a good AAA street map, and that may help. Even then, there are many one way streets, and lots of lanes which all of a sudden change into "turn only" lanes, and then you're stuck...and suddenly lost.

The cheesecake factory, shopping great place for dinner not just cheesecake go early the later you go the more you wait in line very popular place. when getting the bus ask for a return its the same price as a single if you dont you have to pay coming back. use the coupons in the books they are great, and bargain in the international market dont take the first price we like an ring that was 52.00 we ended up getting it for 10.00.
