Truly bad!

Where can we start? This hotel is straight up bs! NO windows? And yeah we paid for a Llanai.., they don't care, they had us pay a lot more to be moved to a room with a lanai facing a brick wall... and we met plenty of people in the same situation.., they don't take responsible for 3rd part booking (heard this line at least 100 times), that means if you reserve your room on the internet they put you in a bunker! And the smell of mold, bug spray and no air in the room doesn't make it better...Wanna be rappers working in the lobby "macking" on the guest? Not the type of service you want right?! So do your self a big favor and do never ever even considering staying here! And by the way, the pictures on all sites even their own is from the beginning of the 80's.

What is everyone upset about

We just returned from the hotel on July 18,2002. If you read anything about it you should have known it was under construction. However, that did not bother us nothing was a total mess. The maid service was perfect she was there everyday or calling us to see if we needed anything. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful. This hotel will be VERY nice when completed. We will return. If you want a 5 star hotel then pay the price and go to it.

To the staff keep up the good work everyone was wonderful.

what the sam hill are people complaining about? the aston waikiki beach was more than we could have hoped for! did lots of research before my partner and i went, knew what we were getting into, and were minorly inconvenienced. as a hawaiian traveler who has stayed only with family in honolulu--now living on the mainland--or in very comfortable higher end accomodations--outrigger reef--i dreaded staying in a hotel on waikiki. it's not my idea of hawaii, rather, except for the ocean, like many other tourist areas with palm trees and people from everywhere else. it's location is on the diamond head end of waikiki, so, the touristy in the party can go ewa. the more casual can go diamond head. the adventuresome can rent a car and do the whole island or mauka on the la"ish" freeway system.

as for the hotel, i'm sure the people at the marriott right across the street were no less inconvenience by the noise than the aston guests. right next door was a denny's if you want breakfast or anything else fast food. the ever present abc store was directly outside the kalakaua entrance to the hotel. the pool and poolside bar were there for everyone that preferred a hotel pool over the pacific ocean (cannot figure some travellers, this is hawaii!). we had a picture post card view from our deck window. upgraded to a king size bed. this is all for less that $90 per night! my partner and i will definitely go back!

Good Hotel

Stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel for 9 days. There was no problem with the renovation or noise, we knew that going in. We weren't in the room that much anyway. We were on the 25th floor with a beutiful view of Diamond Head. Which is what they seem to consider a full ocean view??Everyone was very friendly, and fixed any issues, immediately. Though there should not have been issues, like no t-paper after housekeeping had already been there, or another day with no towels. Comments from people in the middle floors said that their rooms were very hot, the a/c didn't seem to work. They worked almost too well on the 25th floor...If you didn't have the new "Breakfast On the Beach" (vouchers)included in your Hotel fees, the $12 charge was very much overpriced, with the same things everyday. I would have preferred returning to Perry's. And yes we also took extra fruit and yogurt for lunch. Besides the new beds/bedspreads and that irritating closet cover, I'd like to know what the $30 million dollars was spent on. It should have included the tile floors in the bathroom and hopefully the pool in the future, plus he elevators. I understand the lobby is being moved by the pool. Good because the fans over the reservation desks were absolutely filthy, hopefully they will be replaced. Not something I want to see when checking in, makes you wonder about the rest of the hotel. All in all because of the wonderful time I had in Hawaii, the hotel experience wasn't that bad. I'd love to see the finished product.

Just returned from 5 nights at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel and was pleasantly surprised with the experience. I was dreading the construction but found not disturbance what-so-ever. Original room was on Diamond Head side and had no balcony so I requested a change and it was given without hesitation. I had a partial oceanview but was almost a full oceanview because of the location. My package included the breakfast buffet which was fabulous. The rooms have small refrigerator, so I would grab yogurt and fruit for lunch and only had to pay for dinner. The staff was always smiling and so verrrryyy friendly. Received a local newspaper each morning and coffee is complimentary at the pool. The best thing I found at the hotel was the "Tennessee Mai-Tai" for $4. Definitely recommend you try one of those!!! I would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel around the 1st of June. We had no complaints. We knew that it would be without a restaurant and under construction. The location, price, and renovated rooms were the main reasons we chose this hotel. The location is great. It is right next to the zoo/park. And, of course the beach is directly in front of it. We stayed in an oceanfront room that was a corner unit on the 19th floor. I recommend these.- (The corner units are bigger) We brought our 6 and 3 old with us, so at night when they were wiped out we sat on out balcony enjoying the street and beach views without it being noisy. The only thing that bothered me l little was that the bathroom was small and the flooring did not look to have been updated along with the rest of the room. I would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay at the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel. We were there for 6 nights. It sure was not a first class hotel. Clean Hotel and friendly staff. The price was right.Across the street from the beach. What more could you want. The noise was not too bad . A jackhammer noise we heard only one time our whole stay. May 23 - 29. I would stay again if I was to go to Honolulu.

I just don't understand why people are complaining about this hotel. We stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel for 6 nights between 3/20-3/26. We paid for a partial ocean view room but they upgraded us to Ocean view for free when we asked for it. The staff was really helpful and nice. The parking rate was a little steep ($11/day) but it is valet parking. Don't forget to call ahead of time since it takes them almost 30 minutes to bring your car. The construction did not bother us at all, we didn't hear any noise in our room. Don't expect to find any shops or restaurants in the hotel due to the construction. I just don't understand who would want to eat or shop in this hotel when Waikiki beach is full of great restaurants and shopping malls. We stayed at this hotel because of its location and price and didn't expect anything else. We had a very good experience and would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed at the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel from 5/21 - 5/27. We made reservations knowing that there was construction going on and paid a low price ($55/night) accordingly. After making reservations, I read some of these reviews and was concerned. When we reached the hotel, there was plenty of construction on the lower levels and no shops open, just as described to us. The People who greeted us as we got out of the cab took our bags to our room and were very friendly and courteous. The woman at the desk was very nice and talked us into upgrading to a partial ocean view ($65). We had a perfect view of Diamond Head and a pretty decent view of the ocean from the 23rd floor. We had two children with us, and the room had a double and two singles which worked out perfectly. We never heard any construction noise except for when we walked through the lobby. The pool was open but we did not get in it. We had no problems with the elevators and we never even saw a second floor (the elevator goes directly from "L" to 5)so there could not have been a bar as described in one of the reviews posted. There was a stand to buy drinks by the pool, but it presented no problems whatsoever.
Local calls were 75 cents each; I did not care for that too much. The air conditioner did not get really cold, but it was comfortable. We just like to really chill the place down. All of the staff we spoke to were very nice and helpful. We requested a few things like more shampoo and it was delivered within about 5 minutes. We got a newspaper free every morning.
We had a very pleasant stay and at the price we paid, I think it was a real bargain. It was not fancy, but it was clean and comfortable with a nice view, which is all we needed.

Just back from the Aston Waikiki Beach hotel :
it's under construction, ok, you need to know it, and they warn you in all their ads...
but as a matter of fact, it is quiet and decently comfortable.

We got an incredible package so there is nothing to complain about this medium class hotel which is extremely well located, not far from the busy center but also close to a park and the beach of course.

It's also well located if you want to get out of Honolulu without spending too much time.

The one drawback is the vallet parking ($11 per day and really nowhere else to park) and the minimum 20 min wait if you don't call them beforehand.

I stayed there last week May 8 to May 13 and it sucked. I was to get an ocean view room but they would not upgrade me from partial.
Please be aware of this if you book with them....
The travel/activity desk only had a few ideas and was not knowledgeable AT ALL when it came to planning events.
They do not have drinking glasses, coffee makers in the rooms.
There is no free breakfast...
There is no coffee shop or restaruant here.
They do not offer bath gel or raxors like other hotels do.
There are loud CLINKING noises within the walls due to construction that never go away
The pay phones don't work, forcing you to make calls from your room at 80 cents a pop.
The power drilling brings dust everywehre when you walk back and forth to your hotel. 8 to 5 are the hours

The people behind the desk are not as friendly and caring as I assumed they would be.
THE ALARM WENT OFF LATE AT NIGHT TO EVACUATE THE HOTEL(speakers in your room scare you have to death!), and then they said SORRY NO NEED TO WORRY, SORRY TO BOTHER YOU. DUH!
They just did for no reason.
It is at the far end of the beach away from everything going on. There was no deal made with the package I bought.
DONT STAY HERE!!!!
STAY SOMEPLACE NICE, TRUST ME. IT WILL BE WORTH IT....

Top Local Tips for Honolulu

Snorkeling for $12 If anyone would love to go snorkeling on their trip then please do contact Seabird tours who will pick you up and take you to Huanama Bay (i may have that misspelt, apologies) and pick you up again a few hours later. For 12 dollars each you will be transported to this amazing bay where the tropical fish are found even in waist deep water with lots of great goral to explore. A must see!!

Enoa Tours We booked through Enoa tours for the Arizona memorial, Missouri tour, and Punchbowl Crater. Cost was $55, which included admission to the Missouri. We don't regret it at all! The driver (Pulani) was fantastic and provided us with a lot of information and humor. The bus picked us up at 6:15 and we were some of the first in line at the Arizona memorial. First class treatment, we had a wonderful day. Don't forget, bags and purses are not allowed at the memorial, and you have to check them before crossing the bridge to Ford Island (to the Missouri) due to restrictions at the military base (you can leave them on the bus while at the memorial, but have to check them before you cross the bridge, at a cost of $3/item).

Circle the island Get a car, circle the island. There is more to see than waikiki beach. Go to north shore and have a shave ice.
