Great Stay

from RR40
Just stayed April 11 and had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful and very clean, with the opening in Jan that helps. The valet and check in were quick and friendly, the rooms very nice. We stayed in a Grand Suite-very roomy and plush. Granite tops-well stocked bar, big plasma tv, nice linens and spotless. The wine bar is nice, they are just now adding liquor to the bar and were not fully stocked, very friendly bar staff. Will be back-great location to walk around downtown.

Just lovely.

I have absolutely NO complaints with regards to my stay. How often can you say that??
We got into the hotel at 1:30 in the morning after a very long day, being up since 6am. I was exhausted to my breaking point upon arrival. After weaving through the jaywalkers in Savannah, I was about done. I couldn't pull to the curb at the front because of other cars there. So, I called the front desk and told them what was going on. The front desk reception person ran out front and found me somewhere to pull to the curb for valet. They had my vehicle unloaded and me to the counter in under 2 minutes. VERY fast considering how tired I was. My boyfriend was in a seperate car behind me and once he found the location and got valet parked, he was right behind me.
Once we got to our room, we were nearly knocked off our feet with the room. It was beautiful. Everything I would love my house to be.
On Saturday night, after we went to do our plans, we had a glass of wine at the bar. The bartender, Erin, was charming and sweet. She recommended a lovely wine choice for both my boyfriend and myself. Then we got a second glass to go and went to the terrace. The terrace technically closes at 10pm, however, others were out there by the firepit. However, the pit was no lit. It was a bit chilly, so I offered to go downstairs to see what could be done. After a request for the fire to be lit, a very nice older man, Mike, I think, came up and lit the fire for us. We then sat up there and drank wine by the fire until late in the evening. I think it is saying a lot about Avia that we were happier sitting by the fire drinking wine and talking to interesting people than we would have been club hopping and running around to the sites and sounds of Savannah.
On Sunday, we checked out of the hotel. The process was rather quick and easy. The bellhop called the valets who had my vehicle pulled around and packed before we even got done with checkout. Once we got outside, we requested them to re-park the vehicle so we could wander around Savannah for a few hours. They happily did so.
We then walked 2 blocks to the River and ate at Huey's, which was recommended the night before by our bartender, Erin. The food was great. And because of the centralized location of the hotel, we were able to wander around Savannah for hours and then find our way easily back to the hotel to retrieve our vehicles.
So, in closing, we could have spent the entire weekend in Savannah and never left a few blocks radius of the hotel and we would have been perfectly happy. Avia made the weekend calm, relaxing, and fabulous when with any other hotel I've been to, it could have been scurried, crazy, and just a pain in the butt.

Nice, new, modern hotel but a few kinks to still work out.

from seetheworld
We recently stayed 2 nights at the AVIA and while it's a modern and brand new hotel in a central area, they still have a few kinks to work out. The front desk in particular always seemed understaffed. I felt like I was always waiting in line there -- to check in, to ask for directions to a restaurant, to check out, etc. The concierge (when on duty) was very helpful though and great with suggestions.

ve Ever Been To!!!

from BruceWayne99
This was simply the best hotel I have ever been to. Let me start by saying the staff from top to bottom was very attentive, courteous and professional. Not once did I see a employee not smiling or greeting other guests. My girlfriend and I were treated like we owned the hotel. The staff epitomized southern hospitality and charm; they really helped make "the Savannah experience" for us. Mrs. V who works in the dining area during breakfast was wonderful; she and everyone else made us feel like we were at home. The rooms were amazing!!! They were true reflections of what one can expect from the unique, artistic side of Savannah; what makes this city stand out from others. Contemporary pieces of art that depicted city scenes hung from the walls along with large decorative hanging mirrors and plantation blinds that draped the doors leading to the balcony (great view at night). All of this along with bright patterned furniture that accented the living area made it feel like the room was designed by an artist to be photographed.
The best part of our trip was yet to come! We were in Savannah for the Savannah Music Festival and had bought the last available tickets for the sold out show featuring Chick Corea and John Mclaughlin (and the Five Piece Band). As my girlfriend and I went downstairs to eat breakfast the morning of the concert, me being the big jazz fan spotted Chick, John and the rest of the band eating breakfast 20 feet away from us. Of course I am holding in all my excitement and cool enough not to go up and ask them for an autograph while they were eating (not cool). However, later that day we actually ended up on the elevator with John (he was staying on our floor) and he kindly gave me an autograph:-) (very cool).
My Girlfriend and I fell in love with the city and this hotel. They have lifelong patrons in us - thanks Avia for making our first experience in Savannah one that will surely bring us back.

Brand new hotel in a very good location

from BigSolar
We stayed here for two nights in early March. The hotel is brand spanking new inside and out-it only opened in late Jan '09. The beds were very comfortable and the room also included free internet access.

The hotel is two blocks from the river and is also located a walking distance to several of the famous restaurants in the historic center--just right across the square from Lady & Sons(Paula Deen's place) and Sapphire Grill. (As a quick aside, our favorite place restaurant by far was Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, which was a 10-15min walk from the hotel. If you go to Savannah you must stop there)

The only downside that I can mention is that the square that is adjacent to the hotel is currently undergoing construction, which looks like it will take a couple more months. Our room was facing the river so we did not hear any construction noise in the morning, so if you are planning to sleep in I would request a room that was not facing the square.

Has a few problems that need to be worked out

from Vicola
This is a very nice place to stay, but it is not yet a great place to stay. Husband and I extended a one day/night business trip into a five day/night vacation. When asked mid-week how our stay was going, we commented on some of the problems we had experienced. Because of this, we were moved to a suite, which we enjoyed immensely. Management obviously cares about its customers, so we hope that with time things will be better.

First the pros - very nice room, nicely furnished and decorated. Very, very comfortable bed with really great linens. Loved the 42" television and iPod clock/radio. Great location, an easy stroll to City Market or to River Street.

Now the cons - The staff, mainly housekeeping, but also the parking valets. First, our minibar refrigerator was not cleaned out. We found two leftover sandwiches in the refrigerator. Gross. Icky. Yuck. Second, the shelf in the shower was not cleaned. It had leftover soap stuck to it. Again, gross, icky, yuck. When we checked into our room, our tissue box was almost out of tissues. The yellow/orange tissue was popped up in the dispenser, meaning the box was almost empty. It was not changed, which in my opinion it should have been. A small item, but it seems the housekeeping staff overlooks many details. They also never replaced the shampoo/conditioner supply. We had one bottle for the whole week. I had to go looking for another bottle on the housekeeping cart. On at least one occasion, our room was not vacuumed. There were pizza crumbs still on the floor from the night before. Now for the valets - every time we had our car retrieved by the valet, we noticed the radio station had been changed. Really? You can't listen to a bad radio station for the two minutes it takes to park the car? In my opinion, this is just rude. And finally, we were given a handicapped room, which meant the bathroom sink/counter area was very small. There was no room to put anything other than a toothbrush and toothpaste. Very inconvenient. Oh, one more thing. The shower head is one of those large, rain type shower heads where the water flows out all around you. Personally I prefer a much more concentrated shower spray. It's not a con, it was just difficult to get the shampoo out of my hair.

Even with all the problems, we would recommend this place. We were glad we changed our reservation from the Hyatt. I hope the housekeeping/valet issues can be fixed. If so, this will be a great hotel.

ideal location

from maesmom
we loved our stay at Avia. The staff is extremely gracious. We arrived with an unhappy two year old in tow, and we didn't feel for a moment that we were imposing. And the barista and the wine bar helped pacify us overwhelmed parents.
We booked our stay through expedia, and this is the first time a hotel didn't plop us in an unattractive room because of it. The hotel location provides an ideal spot to start an exploration of savannah. The city is currently converting the lot across the street to a square to replace one of the lost parks, and when this is finished, the hotel will really shine(right now, there is still ongoing construction noise). I also enjoyed a work out facility that looked over the pool deck, and a pool area with a ton of sitting space.
We scouted out parking at the nearby all-right parking to avoid paying some pretty steep valet fees-only a block away. The only other minor negative for us was the shower--its a rain shower only-no tub which is tough with kids.

A bit cold!

from tideswest
We were in town this past weekend for a college visit to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and stayed at the newly opened AVIA. It is a very beautiful, plush hotel. The front desk staff were cold and not very welcoming. Our room, a double, was very nicely decorated with plush furnishings. Fabulous bed with soft linens and great pillows. The room was very quiet with no noise from the hallway. We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast buffet (not included)
Overall I liked the hotel but didn't get a welcoming feeling from the staff and therefore didn't feel very comfortable there even though the surroundings were very nice.

Felt like a moviestar

from AspenFlashpacker
Took a last minute trip to Savannah for a romantic getaway and discovered this new little gem.
Really cool hotel; the staff was amazing. The lounge and rooms were hip, but not over the top. Loved the tub and fire pit!

Stayed at AVIA Savannah on opening weekend

from GaTraveler76Atlanta
The hotel is very nice.. To be fair the hotel has been open four days so one can only expect it to be nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a Standard King room. Not a suite. The room was very nice and clean. I have three knocks on the room. The shower was unusual. It is a walk in shower like none other. The room was very small with a lot in it. This made the room feel even smaller/crowded. Last the air conditioner was extremely loud. When the air comes on expect loud powerful bursts of air which heat or cool the room quickly. It took us one day to adjust to the loud powerful air sounds. The hotel has a nice location one street behind bay st and extremely close to market place. Parking was confusing. The parking lot is actually two levels under the ground behind the hotel. Valet parking is the easy solution. When choosing a hotel it came between AVIA and the Hyatt. I would currently recommend staying at this hotel. The true test will be rating this hotel once it has been open longer.
