Drive around Macon Macon is a very old city, filled with Pre-Civil war homes, cemetaries, old churches. There are a lot of historical buildings. There are many civil war battle field memorial sites to visit(within a 2-4 hour drive,) the most famous at Andersonville. This is a short drive of about one hour from Macon. The Georgia state fair is here also, in August, very fun. If you fly, fly into Atlanta, you usually save $ doing this.. It is a 70 miles drive south from Atlanta Hartsfield airport. There are several good restaurants .

Things to do in Macon You must see the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds. This would be like going to Paris and not visiting the Eiffel Tower. It is totally free and amazing to see. They temple mounds are huge! We also go to NuWay Weiners downtown for lunch(Thanks to Oprah's visit to Macon). Do no miss Jim Shaw's seafood or better yet The Fish n' Pig for great seafood. The scallops were huge and the gator nugget appetizers we delish! Avoid the Children's Museum. It was over priced, over rated and down right disappointing. Have not visited the Georgia County Music Hall of Fame nor the Harriett Tubman Museum.
