Top Local Tips for Macon
dining Macon has some neat little out of the way family owned restaurants. Ask about the Italian - can't remeber that name but the family has had a restaurant a long time.
Cherry Blossom Festival Skip the Cherry Blossom Festival. I had always heard such nice things about it, but it seemed like a glorified state fair to us. Not at all the quaint, idyllic festival I had imagined. In fact Macon itself was very disappointing. I had attended an economic development conference there a few years ago, and really expected big changes, but it has actually deteriorated since then. You would think the restaurants and businesses would take advantage of the festival attendees business as well, but we found most to be closed on the second day of the festival which was a Saturday to boot. What a waste of great potential. Now We Know Better.
The Visitor's Center and the Historical Sites When we first got to town, we went to the new Visitor's Center. It was the best Visitor's center that we have ever seen. The displays were fantastic and the bathrooms were large and spotless. Also, in Macon there is a must-see Roman Catholic Church with beautiful stain-glass windows and the Hay House is spectacular. Don't miss either one of these sites!
