Historical Traveller Reviews of W Hotels Atlanta

Strange Guest Room Design - very uncomfortable

from 1964bill
We love the design and energy of the W hotels. The Times Square W in New York is great, but I would only visit the Buckhed W hotel for a drink and stay somewhere else on Peachtree Road. My wife and I were planning on staying the weekend at the Buckhead W hotel, but moved to another hotel after the first night.
This hotel is really a night club with hotel rooms attached. The noise level in all rooms is bad. After reading reviews I had requested a "quiet" room. The hotel said that the 4th and 5th floors were the low noise floors. Our room was on the 4th floor and was far from being quiet. The booming music from the outdoor main entry gets louders through the night and bounces off the high rise building next door. It also seemed that most bar guests when leaving like to burn rubber or race their engines as they leave. The music and noise went on until about 3am......
The rooms are too small and the bathroom is totally unexceptable. There is no privancy while going to the restroom and the toliet is only a few feet from the bed. Whoever designed this hotel room must like the sound of people using the toliet. If you are traveling by yourself the room would be fine, but if you are with someone else it would be very embarrassing. Don't even think about bring children to this hotel. It is definitely an "adult only" environment.

The room rates are okay, but you have to valet park your car for $30 a night and there is no self parking. An interesting hotel to visit, but I would not stay there.

The W is not impressive

from dang10
The W tries too hard to be this modern elegant hotel that they are not. The staff is extremely nice but almost too nice.

We stayed in the upgraded rooms on the top floor. The private club is directly above your room. We enjoyed the club but when we went to our room at 1am the music shook our room until 2am. After that you can hear them cleaning and moving bar stools until 4am. We asked to be moved down a couple floors and they did so no problem. Dont stay on the 11th floor.

My biggest complaint was the size of the room. You barely have a place to put your luggage in this "full size" room. The worst part is the bathroom doors. They are paper thin and almost see thru sliding doors. I've been with my wife for 5 years but when it comes to the bathroom thats private time. The bed is 3ft from the toliet. Very awkward.

I was expecting so much more. If your in your early 20's and havent stayed in too many nice hotels you'd probably think this was nice.

All on the surface...

This was my first stay at a W Hotel. I had been looking forward to the stay, but the reality was very disappointing. This hotel's problem is it has missed the point. It is more worried about cool a cool lobby, cute sayings ("whatever, whenever, what is your wish," is how they answer the phone) and they have completely ignored the important aspect of providing a nice, comfortable room to stay in. From the minute we checked in there were issues. We asked to be moved from our first room by the elevator (which was one of my original requests not to be in a room next to an elevator). Our next room had a broken air conditioning unit, then the next room had a toilet that would not flush, until we finally reached our final room (we were upgraded to a "Fabulous Room" from a "Wonderful Room" I had been in 3 Wonderful rooms and the Fabulous room was exactly the same except when you got off the elevator there was a sign on the Fabulous floor that said "Who is special, You are special." Which was one more irritating cute saying. The only thing that made you special is that you were paying more for the exact same room.)

The next morning I went to the lobby to get two complimentary cups of tea (which when you check in they direct you to the tea as complimentary and in your room a sign says complimentary, but once you pour it they charge your room). I spoke with someone who was going to take care of the charge, but of course it was never removed. After a long day of work we returned to our room and it had not be made up by housekeeping.

This is where is really goes down hill. We leave the room to allow for them to clean it, and leave the hotel. Due to poor lighting along the driveway my business partner falls and breaks her arm. The hotel is clueless on how to handle the situation. They finally call us a taxi to take us to the ER. Since the fall was on their property and due to issues with lighting, you might think they would have at least provided free transportation to the ER, nope. Upon my return late that night to the hotel the guy who helped us at the front desk asked how she was doing. I explained that she was flying home in the morning and cutting our trip short. Not once after that moment did I hear from the hotel about the issue. Since this disrupted out business plans significantly, I chose to check out a day early. At which point I was going to be charged a $50 fee for this. After putting up fight about this fee it was then waived (although it too several days a phone calls to correct the charges to my credit card that was at one point almost double what it should have been).

I travel to Atlanta several times a year. If you are over 30 years old and would rather have a good hotel experience and skip the cool lobby, stay elsewhere. I have stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Buckhead (good), the Grand Hyatt (also good) and even the less expensive Double Tree (good) and all are better than this hotel.

Very Extravagant!!! Awesome Hotel

from shekinaglory
This hotel just opened 2 months ago and it is amazing! The quality of service they provide is outstanding and the staff was attentive to our every need. The only problem I had is that I don't feel that it is a family friendly place. It is definitely catered to the "couples" or singles who enjoy a liitle bit of the night life.

Very Nice, Exceptional Service

from MichaelChristine
This hotel was recently gutted, as it used to be the old Holiday Inn.

Great job. The lobby is what you would expect from a W, and the hotel rooms are very well furnished and maintained.

My only criticism is the size of the rooms. Small for Atlanta.

The service was outstanding, from the front desk people, to the valets. No complaints at all.

We would definitely stay here again.

Gala Event for corporate opening

from de1996
We decided to host our Gala event for the corporate opening at the W Hotel Buckhead.

The feedback we received from our guest (over 170) and our VIPs was very good. The food and beverages were excellent, service was at its best, and the hotel left an excellent impression. After the party we visited the Whiskey Blue bar which was the final highlight of the evening.

Considering the fact that there are so many hotels and function locations in Atlanta, the W Hotel Buckhead is the pace to go.

The Buckhead W Hotel WOWS Again!

from Showbar
This is the Email I sent to the W after my stay. I am a busy traveler, but the service I received during my stay was noteworthy and needed to be shared.

I stayed at the W Buckhead on 11/20/2008 and I just wanted to take the time to thank you and your staff for making me feel so welcome. Marc and the entire Whatever/Whenever staff went out of their way to make me feel at home. It was exciting to be a part of your new W Hotel. Overall I was highly impressed with the hotel and it's close proximity to everything. I am planning a trip back to Atlanta in a few months and I can't wait to check out Whiskey Blue and stay with you again. I was really impressed the new W Hotel Buckhead. Thank you for your warm hospitality and your impeccable service!
Sincerely,
S.M.

Fabulous event!

from shaunamarieobrien
I was lucky enough to attend an event at the W Buckhead, and it was absolutely fabulous. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is excellent, I had an absolute blast. Of course as a hotel they are luxurious and in a class of their own, but the events live up to the W name as well! I definitely recommend this location!

Raving Fan

from csberte
I stayed at the new W hotel in Buckhead, and all I can say is WOW! It REALLY blew me away!! I felt as if I was in a luxury hotel.....and the price was SO reasonable! It's in a GREAT lcoation, and the entire staff was EXTEMELY freindly. They went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. I am not sure if they simply "hired" great employees or if it is a product of their training, but I was totally amazed at how focused they were towards making my stay enjoyable!
It definatley was the place ot be in the evenings...the clientel (as well as the staff) were EXTREMELY good looking. They have a club on the top floor (Whiskey Blue) that opened the night I was there....top notch the whole way.
I'll be back again and again, and I will recommend to my friends and family.

Great staff, great design, great location

from thechosenuno
I decided to take a risk checking in to this hotel on the day it opened. I generally like W's (being in my mid 20s), and the decor looked cool/funky/different from most W's. The rooms aren't as big as some hotels, but they're more than adequate in size.

The hotel is in a great location in Buckhead, perfect for my meetings. The design is much better than your typical W. The hotel website pictures are quite accurate.

What impressed me the most was the staff. The opening wasn't without its kinks. The phones didnt work one morning. I suppose that's why I have a cell phone. But the big kicker was that they had to take the boiler offline for several hours for a fix, which meant no water (neither hot nor cold). I called whatever/whenever to ask when they'd have it fixed, and they said in the late afternoon. That posed a huge problem, given that I had just worked out and needed to shower to get to a meeting. The desk clerk called me right back, and she had one of the doormen take me next door to the Westin where a room was waiting for me to use the shower. In short, the staff took a terrible situation during the hotel's first few days and quickly made the best of it. A big thumbs up!

I'd definitely stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Atlanta

Aquarium Get tickets on line and go early. It is worth the wait!!! Fantastic exhibit!!!

Gorgeous in the spring! I grew up in Atlanta and still go back to visit. Go in the spring. Flowers are gorgeous! It will be well worth your time, but expect traffic in the city and on the highways to be very heavy. Roswell and Alpharetta which are north of Atlanta are very nice, well-kept and beautiful areas. Atlanta and surrounding areas have many interesting museums and historical sites.
