Historical Traveller Reviews of Hyatt Regency Atlanta Hotel

Downtown ATL Hyatt Regency 3/11-13/05-Great!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hi all
I'm new here and to Priceline.
Last week 4 ladies needed 2 rooms for the weekend in Atlanta to attend a Stampin' Up! regional seminar at the Georgia World Congress Center. I was going to book through Travelocity or Expedia as i usually do, however as the 4 hotels i'd boiled it down to that were close enough to the GWCC were not that great and at around $100 or more a night. So i figured, what the hey, i'll try Priceline.
I got the Hyatt Regency for us at $82 a night. The girls were thrilled. (The nearby Super 8 was going for $78 a night!) After i got our room booked, i checked other sources and found the rooms at the Hyatt Regency were going for around $199 that weekend. Very happy about that!

The location was great. Easy to find off the Interstate. The hotel garage was full, so the valet manager- or manager of some sort- sent us to another parking garage within a block which gave us a better rate for parking! $25 for both nights with unlimited in & out rather than $20 each night.

The rooms were fine. We had two non-smoking rooms with two doubles each. The rooms were big enough, with plenty of table and desk space for us to finish up our projects comfortably. The lack of refrigerators was a slight annoyance. One of the rooms was not cleaned on time. There was a slight mix up and we could not get rooms on the same floor.

These rooms were in the main atrium, which i would not recommend as the restaurant and bar are at the base of it, esp. loud during basketball playoffs!! The UK fans were also staying at the Hyatt Regency, so it was a sea of blue-wearing hooting and hollering fans all night, and the noise traveled quite well up the 15 & 19 stories to our rooms.

HINT: turn the fan up to HIGH and it masks almost all the noise. Once i discovered and shared this secret, even the noise of the basketball fans all night long was no longer a problem. We slept great.

The location was so convenient. We rode MARTA to the conference and walked back. Both options are fine. Uphill walking back though.
There are lots of eating options handy and within walking distance. There was not much open late at night though.

Overall, all of us were very happy with the hotel and with our rate obtained through Priceline. We'd do it again.

Great Experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta from Feb. 7-9, 2005. My experience there was wonderful. After reading reviews on here, I requested a room high with a view. I was placed on the 21st floor in the International Tower. The room was spacious, with a king bed, desk/table with 2 chairs, a large arm chair and ottoman, as well as a large dresser and 2 night stands. The furniture was modern, in good repair, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The sheets were crisp, and the down comforter and pillows were heavenly. The room was clean and I had a lovely view of downtown Atlanta. The bathroom was large, with a nice marble counter and adequate tub/shower.
I had room service twice and found it to be prompt and good quality. I dined in the cafe in the atrium lobby one afternoon and the food was good, but a bit pricey. I was attending a conference here, and we had several meals with that, all served buffet style. The food was delicious, with a lovely presentation.
The Perks coffee shop has Starbucks coffee, and is open 24 hours.
The staff were gracious and accomadating. I did not encounter any staff member who was rude or unwilling to help.
The location can't be beat and was within walking distance to many nice resteraunts. The Peach Tree Mall is connected to the hotel, and I found that convenient for buying bottled water and other items that I did not want to pay gift shop prices for.
I would definately stay here again, and would recommend this hotel highly.

Convention Center first, hotel (a distant) second

from A TripAdvisor Member
A recent stay of six nights at this property left this reviewer hoping never to return. However, if you're seeking large convention facilities with rooms attached as an afterthought, this is your place. Good location (if you must be in downtown Atlanta) is this hotel's only saving grace. Thanks to fellow trip advisor reviewers,
I was able to get to the lobby within a short time after deplaning at Hartsfield (however, be sure to confirm that you're indeed using the corrrect of the "Peachtree" MARTA stations). Though the room rate was high (over $180), you will almost certainly be forced into spending much more. The Hyatt chain seems to be one of the last holdouts to charge extra for high speed internet and long distance. Don't even think of parking onsite, as the charge exceeds the room rate at many roadside motels. In addition, the lack of refrigerator or even minibar
leaves the guest at the mercy of pricey in-house restaurants (until one discovers the several alternatives in the attached shopping area). All said and done, if you've got a choice for lodging in the Atlanta area, this shouldn't be it.

Great Hotel for events at the Dome or World Congress Center

from auburn8
We were very fortunate to stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel during the SEC Championship Football Game week. The hotel is very convienent to the World Congress Center, Philips Arena, and the Georgia Dome. The hotel staff is very attentive without being pushy and the lobby is very impressive. There are several different options for meals on site and the hotel is connected to the food court of a mall. The rooms are fairly small for a southern hotel but well appointed and above all clean. I would highly recommend the Hyatt Regency for any event in the downtown area of Atlanta.

Very enjoyable stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here for a conference and found it to be a very pleasant hotel. The public areas are somewhat tired looking and dated but my room had up to date decor, a very comfortable pillowtop mattress and was spacious. I appreciated room delivery of two newspapers as I am a news junkie and liked that I could open the sliding glass door for fresh air. Though my room was near the elevators I found it surprisingly quiet. For a large conference hotel I found both the business center and the gym to be on the small side. The business center only had three terminals so there was a wait at times. The gym had 5 nice treadmills (cybex) but the ellipticals (precor), stepper and bike were old. But all the cardio equipment was set up in front of tvs and headphones were available for use. There was limited lifting equipment but a rack of nice dumbells. Towels and water were available and staff were on hand. I found the front desk and concierge staff friendly and helpful and I was greeted throughout the hotel by employees. Overall, though the facilities were not great, I found the stay very enjoyable.

Off the Chain

I was here for the Future Business Leaders of America Fall Leadership Conference. This hotel is all you could ask for! Off the chain, and huge. Rooms are great and everything! Everything you could imagine. Great Hotel! Got lost, it was so big!

Hyatt Regency Atlanta is okay

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is in walking distance to a lot of attractions. Buckhead and Midtown are not too far away. I would recommend hotels in Buckhead if you like fine dining and 5 star accomodations, because this Hyatt is by no means 5 star.

The revolving resturant was always booked so I never got to eat there. The Peachtree mall next door is a small shopping plaza and they don't have a great variety of stores.

Room was okay and I was high up enough that I was not bothered by the noise. This hotel has a lot of conventions so its a long wait for the elevators. I would not recommend this hotel for business travelers.

Overall my stay here was okay.

Very nice stay at the Hyatt Regency

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency over the Fourth of July weekend. The front desk staff was extremely helpful, and the room was great. Probably the cleanest hotel bathroom I've ever seen, and the bed was very comfortable. The location is good, but not much shopping in the area. Better for business or tourist atractions, but a very safe area.
The concierge was helpful, but the hotel bar staff were not particularly friendly. Over all, we had a great stay. One note - we got our room through priceline, so we were especially happy to have such a nice room for such a great price.

Great hotel!

I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency for two years straight when attending Future Business Leaders of America competitions and conferences. It is one of the better hotels that I have stayed at, complete with beautiful and spacious rooms, conference rooms, ballrooms, and restaurants. The dining and snack area had wonderful food. The inside is beautiful and unique, and has many elevators which go up to the members-only area at the top of the hotel. The rooms change their style on each floor, which gives the hotel a little bit of variety and charm as well. I love this hotel, and I should, since I stay there annually!

I just got back from staying at this hotel for Music Midtown (4/30-5/2), and I must say I would rate it higher than the Marriott Marquis that is next door any day. The Hyatt has recently undergone a $15.4 million renovation. The room we stayed in was a large corner room and was well appointed. I requested the International Tower and it was very nice and quiet. Considering we got the room for $40 through Priceline, I was extremely pleased. The front desk staff was excellent and honored my request for a non-smoking room with two double beds on a high floor. I would definitely stay here again on a PL bid, but don't know if I would stay at the $155 rate. Parking is $20 a night and we had two cars, so parking for two nights was ironically just as much as the room! That is pretty standard for this part of town though I suppose. My only real complaint was that we ordered some towels and it took two hours for them to get to our room. The front desk clerk did give us a late checkout though (2:30 p.m.). I used my Gold Passport card for the parking fees. I think being a member was part of the reason we got such a nice room.

Top Local Tips for Atlanta

Hsu's Chinese restaurant a great experience Hsu's Chinese restaurant reminds me of wonderful, classy restaurants thirty years ago. Excellent service. Special food.

Take the train! (MARTA) From the airport, take the train to the Peachtree Center station (8 stops, approx. 20 min). The station is connected to a mall which is connected to the hotel.

MARTA Take the MARTA to get around. It cheap ($4 return), frequent service and most of the stations are convieniently located for attractions or malls.
