One bad apple ruins the bunch!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Doubletree Atlanta Perimeter from April 1 - April 6, 2006 while attending a conference in downtown. I liked the location and its relative proximity to the things I wanted to do outside of the conference. When I first checked in the guest service person was polite and helpful, it wasn't until the 4th day that I was treated with such disrespect. I came to the front desk to see if there was a UPS or FedEx close by, so that I could ship some books that I bought home. I asked the guy at the desk, and he informed me that I would need a box, which I already had, and left to go look for one, when he came back I told him I had a box, I just needed to know where the shipping place was. At the same time I said that, the phone rang, he walked away from me, without saying excuse me, and answered the phone, he then proceeded to help the guest on the phone and completely ignored me. I stood there, at the front desk, for well over ten minutes, and he never acknoledged the fact that I was there. I left to go back to my room and finish gathering the stuff I needed sent, I then called a friend and asked her. When I came back downstairs the front desk guy was still on the phone, and never looked up to acknowledge me. To me this was very disrespectful , and made me think that I wasn't worth their time or energy. I spoke to the evening receptionist about the incident, she apologized and offered me a drink, but to me this didn't solve the problem. When I went to check out at 5:30 the next morning I had a question on my bill, so I stood at the front desk for about 6 minutes and noone was there, I had to leave without my question being answered or else I would have missed my flight.

As for the rest of my stay, the suite that I had was outdated. The couch had numerous stains on it, the floor by the balcony looked as if someones dog had relieved itself and was not cleaned up. The bedspread was ratty and had holes in it, and the refrigerator and coffee pot were both dirty. The TV had 10 channels 4 of which were hotel channels and 3 of which were news channels. The free internet connection never worked, it would drop every 2 to 3 minutes, the bridge that they gave me to help solve the problem was even worse.

On a good note the shopping is fantastic, and Mimi's restaurant was fantastic.

Loved It!!

We stayed here for one night in March 2006. I was pleasantly surprised as we only paid $78 for the night through Expedia. The staff at check in were friendly, and we all loved the warm chocolate chip cookies. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms - it was NICE!! The bed was so comfortable & the room was very clean & nice. We couldnt believe we got such a nice room for such a cheap rate!

We will definately go back!

Consistently Good

Stayed weekend of March 10/11. There is an ongoing renovation in progress at this hotel but apparently they stop working during the week-end because we weren't bothered by it during our stay. The hotel is located in green/lush/peaceful surroundings. Hotel staff is accommodating and friendly. There is ample free parking. Stayed at same hotel 2 years ago and it was good then as well.

My Favorite Place to Stay in Atlanta

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been staying at this hotel for many years. The staff is always nice and helpful. We love the arrangement of a separate bedroom and sitting area. The facility is always very clean and comfortable. We have tried a few other reasonably priced hotels in the area, and have actually moved the next day to go back to the Doubletree!! And it's very conveniently located to expressways and shopping centers.

Decent for the price

from cocotrini
Doubletree guest suites in Peachtree-Dunwoody was an average hotel for the price. My fiance' and I had the expectations of a "nicer and newer" hotel for the classy area that the hotel is located in. The showers and bathrooms were old, the faucet handle in the bathroom needed some extra screws. The shower itself looked as if it had not been renovated in a very long time. However, the room was clean and it was very spacious. Staff and the desk were pleasant and very helpful with questions. Also, the location of the hotel was a plus, it was within 10 minutes of the malls and restaurants not to mention Buckhead district was not too far down the road. Will probably return to this hotel.

Very disappointed

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was a big disappointment. First the desk staff initially had some trouble with my credit card and loudly announced to everyone in the lobby that my card had been declined. After some insistance on my part, the clerk re-attempted to process my card which then worked without problem. I wished he had announced to the other guests that he was sorry for my embarassment but that would have been a little much to expect. The room did not have cordless phones as described in the web ad. The furniture was worn and dated. The bed had a bowed mattress like one might expect at a cheap roadside motel. Additionally, while the room has a desk and chair, there were no available outlets to plug in my laptop. In order to use my computer, I had to either unplug the lamp or the phone system. Oh, I nearly forgot, the clerk didn't even give me a DoubleTree cookie at checkin. I had to ask for one. Very very disappointing for someone who has generally been pleased with Hilton Hotels

Had lots of potential to be great, but a solid B+

Stayed for 3 nights while attending a conference at the Westin just across the street.

PROS:
-saved about $60 a night over the Westin
-very close to Publix and a few faster food restaurants
-very courteous and convenient pickup at MARTA station, which also conveniently leaves direct from Airport for < $2. Not really walkable due to roundabout path to get over highway
-Nice very clean but small whirlpool, nice indoor pool, and brand new treadmills (4) in their clean but very small workout room. Never had any competition though...
-Fast service by maintenance for issues (see below, though)
-Quiet and safe
-Big suite style rooms with 2 TV's
-Kind desk staff, helpful
-FREE wireless internet worked 90% of time, but costs $16/day at the Westin down the street

CONS:
-Decor a bit past its prime, needs some updating, but rooms clean and well laid out
-Fridge in room had seen better days but worked well
-Toilet had persistent blockage problem, brought to attention of desk, and required daily service x 3 days despite suggestion that they have a plumber service it during the day to find cause rather than just patch the problem over with a plunger every day... Did involve a large flood at one point, which was resolved quickly
-A fridge was nice, a microwave would have been even better
-Halfway expected this style of accomodations to involve a free breakfast buffet, snacks, lobby coffee, or something, but none was advertised so I can't complain really...

Overall, would probably stay again, but not sure if I could find equivalent property in the area which was more updated.

Sleeping was just heaven

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I have been to many places but this place was just heaven.
The staff was great but the bed we slept in was like sleeping on a cloud.
I would tell anyone that a stay at the DoubleTree Guest suites Atlanta/perimeter was the greatest. We will be returning.

I loved it!!!

My boyfriend and I went here for our four year anniversary and stayed in a one bedroom jacuzzi suite. We really enjoyed it. The hotel is in a great location and is very peaceful and serene. The jacuzzi is surrounded by a 3-wall mirror which was very romantic. I was a little disappointed at the size of the courtyard but not too much. Everything else was perfect. The price was a little steep for our college student budgets, but it was worth every penny.

s Day

I am a Georgia native and whenever I return for trips to my hometown I always pick hotels that are convenient to all areas of town. Thus, the Dunwoody location is completely convenient to Downtown Atlanta, Marietta, Duluth, Stone Mountain, etc. I was pleased to find suites that were reasonably priced in the Dunwoody areas. Still, I was greatly disappointed in the age of the hotel and what must have been the original furnishings from at least 20-30 years ago. The hotel was relatively clean. Although, I was never quite sure with the showers because of the color of the tiles. The hotel's lobby is attractively decorated and completely inviting. My disappointment was with the rooms themselves and how they were allowed to go without any updates all of these years. The room was equipped with a refrigerator that literally took two whole days to actually get cold. If I can give you some advise on where to stay in the Dunwoody area, I would quickly tell you the Embassy Suites which are much nicer and more reasonably priced than the "in need of a makover" Doubletree.

Top Local Tips for Atlanta

Atlanta traffic can be difficult If traveling to this hotel, you might investigate taking the Marta (public rail system) to the Perimeter Center and having the shuttle pick you up from there. Even though the airport is only 20 miles from the hotel, it took us an hour and a half in very heavy traffic to return to the airport from the hotel.

use the Marta System The light rail system is excellent and easy to use. It's nice not to have to drive. $4.00 got us to the Braves game and backi

CNN Tour I thought this tour was really interesting and would recommend to anyone.
