Historical Traveller Reviews of Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center

decent hotel

from Sigmetrics
I stayed here for a single night in April for business. I was visiting Georgia Tech and found this hotel to be apt for my purposes. I had to meet some profs in the computer science dept. and the Klaus Advanced Computing Building (that houses the dept) was very close to the hotel. This was only reason why I chose this hotel. I had booked the room for USD 171/night and included the morning buffet breakfast.

I had taken the metro from the airport to midtown. When I got off at the Midtown station, I got lost and wasn't able to find the hotel. This made it appear that the hotel is far away from the nearest station. I arrived at the hotel after 12 in the night and at that time the area around the hotel/campus was completely deserted. The Georgia Tech campus runs a free shuttle service through its campus that ends at the Midtown station. The shuttle passes by the Tech square (which is near the hotel). Visitors can use this shuttle to commute between the hotel and the station/campus.

My room was what you can expect from a 3* hotel. The room was clean and the bathroom was spacious. I had a comfortable queen size bed with lots of pillows. They had a good assortment of toiletries such liquid soap, shampoo, and body lotion (not all 3* hotels provide body lotion).

The hotel appeared to be new and all the fixtures and decor looked modern. I also used their business centre, however, you can access this room for certain hours of the day. Internet access is free for the first 30 minutes in the centre.

Breakfast buffet was awful. Overall this is a well located hotel if your business takes you to Georgia Tech or nearby offices. I don't recommend this hotel for a family outing.

Improving. Good stay if you get a deal

this property rightfully took some grief early on for its disinterested staff and high rates (they aseemed happy having an empty hotel instead of adjusting their rates according to demand...the adjacent B-School maybe set them straight on the basic concept of supply and demand and how it affects pricing).

anyway, my parents had a very good stay over the holidays. it's not a hipster place, mostly for school functions. but it's a solid bet if you want to be close to Midtown. the rooms were clean and the staff was accomodating. there was one bad meal at the restaurant but the manager made amends which is all you can ask. don't go for the food. plenty of great spots nearby.

try to haggle with the prices as this place has real lulls in demand.

Jackets respresent well

We stayed at the GA Tech Hotel and Conference Center on the weekend of 11/17 - 11/19. That was the weekend of the Tech/Duke football game, and we had plans to go to the game and to attend the James Taylor concert at the Fox Theater on Sat. night. My husband is a Tech alumnus, but we had never stayed at the hotel before. We were so pleasantly surprised! All we really hoped for was a decent place to stay that was close to everything. What we got was a perfect weekend! The hotel is contemporary and beautiful. Our room included the breakfast buffet both mornings, which was nothing short of delicious and fantastic. We were so close to the stadium and to the Fox. We walked everywhere -- cab not necessary. It was great! The people were very attentive, and our room was spotless and spacious. Beds were also very comfortable, with duvet style comforters on a cold, cold night. The bathroom was obviously re-done with modern decor & luxuries which included a large, tiled shower. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Atlanta area. It was a GREAT deal for what we got. We live about 30 miles outside of Atlanta, and sometimes it's just nice to stay downtown for events instead of making the drive home. We now know that we will always stay at the Georgia Tech Conference Center.

Great hotel and staff!

from mnrmoulder
Thaddeus (sp?) at the front desk was exceptionally wonderful. My last stay at GT Conference Center was in August, but had also stayed there in July 06. Both times the staff was extremely helpful, giving us coupons for an appetizer at a local spot within walking distance. The rooms and grounds were very well kept and comfortable. All in all, I had a great stay here and would recommend it to anyone needing a place to stay in Midtown Atlanta.

Nice spot, but no one there can give directions how to get there!

from Melanieann
We were invited to a wedding in Atlanta and this hotel was across the street from where the reception was. We flew into Atlanta airport and thought we would give local train into city a try. Was about $ 4 for the two of us. Before we got on train, we called hotel to find out what stop they were. After lenghty discussion with someone, they told us directions ( which were wrong, close, but still wrong). So as we bought tickets we asked the agent. We were given different directions, so decieded to see what happened. Got on train, was busy. We had a lot of trouble seeing what station we were at at each stop. There is not a big sign..finally we see stop hotel suggested. Came out to street and called hotel again just to get us going the right directions since it was rainy. Same girl gave us again wrong directions away from hotel. Called again and she insisted she was right, but we were still lost. I saw a homeless fellow and he was happy to help and we had a nice visit as he led us to hotel.
So he got a dinner and we finally could check in. That went fine. We had a nice room, extremely comfy bed. Nice big bathroom. All very clean. We ordered some room service since we had been traveling all day and were starving. The food we ordered came in a reasonable time and was hot and good.

well above average

our experience here was very positive. this hotel was within a couple blocks walk to several resturants/bars, georgia tech's campus, as well as the north ave marta station. a decent business center and a nice sized fitness room and pool are all on site and the breakfast buffett was reasonable. if you're a sports fan you'll be interested to know that some visiting teams playing georgia tech and the atlanta falcons stay there the night b4 home games.

Enjoyed my stay at the Georgia Tech Hotel

from partlycloudy
I have stayed at the Georgia Tech hotel twice. The first time was in July 2006, the second time was October 2006. I enjoyed my stay both times. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the hotel is adjacent to the Tech campus. It is perfect if you are attending an event at the college.

I hope the economy is doing great because they were scraping the barrel!

After waiting thirty minutes for someone to come to the front desk, I received the most ill mannered bafoon I could get. He was rude and had us wait another fourty-five minutes for the authorization fax from Expedia which was in the fax machine the whole time. After going to the Fox Theatre my wife tried to get a second key made because she had left her's in the room, she was told she couldn't until we paid the seven dollars for room service (they had a credit card number). After this we informed them we would not stay there, so the manager agreed to refund our money and we would go get our things. Well then since it was through Expedia she told us she didn't know how and when we called the Police she blamed the whole thing on us and said she never agreed to refund our money.

WE ONLY STAYED THERE INITIALLY BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE WAS BOOKED....now I know why.

Good room, good value

from Nashville1
We stayed two nights at this hotel for a family outing to Atlanta. The hotel is on Spring Street at 5th, about equidistant from the North Ave. and 10th St Marta Stations. The hotel is new and well decorated. Some of the earlier posts noted poor service. We encountered no problems. At $140 per room per night this was considerably cheaper than some of the nearby branded hotels. We would definitely stay here again.

Much Promise but Much Work Needed

from Often_on_road
This is a lovely new hotel on the campus of Georgia Tech. While the infrastructure is new, the hotel needs lots of work in terms of operating detail and staff. A major speaker at the conference did not receive a wake up call and almost missed speaking. Light bulbs were out in my room and HBO had no sound. You could only see the TV from the bed; you could not adjust it to watch from a chair. Highspeed ethernet connections were available but no cord was provided. Rudimentary bathroom supplies provided but were not replenished. Bed had upscale linens but was uncomfortable. One elevator was already out of service with no idea of when it would be operational.

This hotel has much promise but needs management help and experience.
