Great experience

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel Biba was a wonderful experience. It's fun, funky, and classy. The decor is simple yet elegant and the staff was willing to do whatever it takes to make the stay a comfortable one. The pool is heated perfectly and quite honestly the visit was the most romantic one ever.

What a mistake!!!

I wish I had read the reviews to Hotel Biba before booking a room. The website gives a totally different picture of what you'll find in one of their dingy rooms. Our room was poorly lit (forget reading), and even the lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. My wife had a terrible time putting on her make-up and fixing her hair. The floors in the entire room were old and dirty. The paint on the wall tiles of the shower were peeling. The drain in the tub was clogged, so it filled up while you showered. Once it drained, you'd see dirt and hair all over it, as if it came up from the drain. Disgusting! We lived out of our suitcases because the "minimalist" room didn't provide any storage for our belongings. Sure, the bed was comfortable, but if all we wanted was a comfortable bed, then we would've stayed home for free! Then there's the so-called Continental breakfast. We found lousy coffee, oragange juice, a bowl of "not so fresh" fruits, bread, and 4 or 5 guava pastries under a glass dome. As someone else said, the wine bar offered overpriced drinks and the atmosphere was unpleasant. To make matters worse, if you can't find available parking in the front (which is almost ALL the time), then you have to park in the rear of the hotel. We felt the parking there at night wasn't safe, and turned us into easy prey for criminals. I could go on and on because I'm so upset!Hotel Biba is an *overpriced* rat hole with a few coats of paint. DO NOT THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!

Contemporary, stylish and gracious hospitality

I stayed at Hotel Biba for six nights with my daughter and 2 year old grandson. The Biba is contemporary and stylish and we appreciated the impeccable white down comforters and the rosemary mint Aveda bath products. We felt safe and pampered. We looked at hotels on the ocean but came back to the Biba because Nora the general manager and Jenny her assistant made our Palm Beach Vacation memorable. We opted for the secluded pool and trimmed gardens and took taxis to Worth Avenue shopping and Charley's Crab and the beach.

An overpriced college dorm room!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I typically do not participate in crafting a review, however the complete disappointment of this hotel still lingers in my mind. My fiance and I were seeking a get-away and after visiting their homepage, I thought Hotel Biba would provide a lively, retro hotel to escape to. The embellished pictures of the hotel on their site must be air-brushed and expanded. The hotel is a remodeled truck motel...however all I could find remodeled was some paint splashed on the walls and a white comforter on the bed. The room had a horrible aroma, cracks in the aged floor, a wall unit airconditioner- also requires flip-flops to enter the moldy shower. My small, dirty dorm room in college would have been a preferrable room to stay in. After booking the rooms online, we had no other choice than to bear the intolerable room for 2 nights. There is a bar onsite with drinks beginning at $11/glass. Drinking the bar dry could not improve the condition of this hotel. The positive reviews on this page must have been posted by owners of the hotel. beware: local calls are >$2 and parking is >$5. The only positive memory from the Hotel was checking out the last day!

Trendy...but not very accomodating

from A TripAdvisor Member
A friend and I booked this hotel after seeing it feautured on the travel channel. The area is pretty bad, we couldn't walk down the street without getting hollers from guys in the cars driving by...apparently there are hookers that walk up and down that street.
However, the hotel is very trendy, we loved the decoration of the rooms, bar, and hotel lobby. The pool and outside bar area were very fresh and scenic. In the rooms, the lighting was very poor and it was hard to read and get ready to go out at night. Our toilet broke and didn't get repaired for several hours. They accomodated us by letting us use the staff toilet in the lobby, until that one broke too. There was no storage for any of our things. The complimentary breakfast was pretty bad. The worst thing of all is that there were a lot of little bugs on the floor and coming through cracks so we couldn't have any sort of food in our room because it would become bug infested almost instantly. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the shopping and nightlife are about a 5 dollar cab ride away. When we booked this hotel, someone told us it was a scenic walk to the beach, but it turned out being a few miles of walking on main roads that wasn't nice at all.
So, we had to take a taxi to the beach too, which was a hassle since it rains in the afternoon everyday for about a half hour. Though, I probably wouldn't stay here for extended periods of time again... I would recommend it for a day or two just because of the trendy atmosphere and the cool biba bar.

Stay away!!! Absolutely wretched!!!

This horrible place is surreal for me; a frequent third world traveler. I kept asking myself, "Am I back in Mauritania? Or is this sewer just a bad dream?" Stay away from this wretched hotel!!!!!

I took a while to make my decisison on Hotel Biba. There are some very good things about this place , good location not far from City Place or shopping on Worth Ave. , nice bedding, decent continental breakfast & good coffee, interesting renovation of an old south Florida motel with nice colors and a minimilist style. However it is somewhat too minimal, no storage besides a small closet, no drawers, not even a soap dish in the shower. There are no phone books, and no instructions on using the phone, very poor lighting, you cannot read if you're over 45. We called for more light but none was available, so take your own reading lamp. Real confusion around the room key, we were given several that did not work. Finally were let in by an employee, and the next day we were issued one working key.Overall experience was disappointing and the hotel/motel is overpriced for the accomodations. (Oh, and they charge for parking).

Perfect for us 30 somethings!

Back in 2001, Biba was still West Palm's best kept secret! When we got married, I was looking for a local hotel to stay at with my wedding party the night before and wedding night. I wanted someplace a little more livley than your normal hotel. And I found it! The staff was very nice and went out of their was to meet any needs I had. They even let my wedding party and I use the mirrored lobby and the beautiful stairway for a photo shoot before the wedding! Awsome all the way! It's not the Ritz, but they are not trying to be. It's a casual getaway that makes you feel young! The price was more than fair and even though we live 10 minutes away, we still look forward to our get a ways, as if they were full length vacations!

Bad Boutique

I agree with most of the others: Great idea; terrible execution. I had to leave and get a room at the Holiday Inn in order to get a shower with hot water. The only good thing about Hotel Biba was the bed, which had a good mattress and nice linens. Otherwise, the rooms were cramped and spartan (not in a good way); the bathrooms, aging and poorly-maintained; the staff inexperienced (though they tried)--the front desk person couldn't even find my room! There is no way to walk from your room to the front desk without going outside and threading your way past cars and tiny, unlit walkways. Stay somewhere else.

Nice Hipster Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Based on these reviews, we took a gamble and stayed at the Biba for two nights in September 2003. The hotel looked too cool to pass up.

Reservations/Staff Our room was just as described on the hotel Web site. We reserved a double and requested a late check in. Our room was ready and staff was on call when we arrived (12:30 a.m.). They supplied us with towels on demand, ice buckets, ice etc... and were very responsive to our requests.

Rooms, etc... The bar is nice, but closes early if there isn't a whole lot of business. Beds are super comfy and the rooms are decorated nicely...great if you love a retro look and feel. The price was totally reasonable for the area. Parking was problematic at best.

Bottom Line Don't come here if you are looking for a luxury room! The rooms are nice and well-appointed, but do not compare to places like the Breakers and PGA National. This is a cool place, most suitable for a younger crowd who likes to stay up late.

Top Local Tips for West Palm Beach

MacArthur Park This is a lovely place to spend the afternoon. There is a lagoon for kayaking; a nice beach, snorkeling, hiking. Very pretty.

City Place City Place is just full of life on the wkend nights...we were down there on a Friday night and there was a live band and tons going on. Ate at the Cheese Cake Factory and loved it...not expensive.

Norton Museum Enjoyed visiting this very much.
