t stay here!

I was in town for a convention and stayed at this hotel. On the second day housekeeping wanted to clean my room at 5:30 PM. On the second day, I called and said I would be gone from 10:00-3:00. I came back to an unclean room. I eventually put my wastebaskets in the hallway.

The bar (by the pool in a hotel in Florida) had no blender.

The service at the restaurant was awful.

I would have made a formal complaint but the line to talk to the manager was too long.

Horrible Stay at Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk

from carol715
Stayed at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk from 3/15/06 thru 3/19/06 for a TESOL Conference. Location was good. Rooms were dirty and dingy. Hallway carpets were filthy and there was a terrible odor in hallway. Pool was small. No cleanup around pool area. Ashley grill way overpriced and the food was not good at all. Service was just as bad. Front desk not very accomodating. Took a walk to the Mariott. Beautiful hotel in same area. Would suggest staying there.

Has Promise But Needs More Attention

from Tnflaman
Other than the fact that it is a "downtown" hotel, it has some things going in its favor. My room overlooked the river, so there was boating traffic, rowers, etc. to make it entertaining. The balcony, much like you would find on a condo, was an added attraction. However, it IS a downtown hotel.

I checked into my room around 3:3O PM on an unusually warm March day. Temps were in the low 80s. When I got into the room I knew immediately that the AC was not right. With two calls to the front desk, I finally got a repair person to come up. He replaced a valve or something and said that is all he could do. The AC units are inadequate for the rooms. At this writing I have had the thermostat set at 66 degrees for about six hours and the temp is down to 71 degrees. It's night time too, so that may have worked better than the AC unit.

I found a broken lamp light bulb...still in the lamp, a "fresh" drinking glass with a broken area on the rim, and something black and sticky was on the bathroom floor. The maid came up and "cleaned" it somewhat, saying she would come back later and clean it more, but that didn't happen.

I stay in many hotels so I think I know what a comfort level is in a guest room, and I'm still waiting. My room faces west, so if you want to stay cool, get one facing the east or find another hotel. Call ahead to see if this has been resolved.

Expensive hotel small rooms amenities are very good

As regular readers of tripadvisor know I travel all over the USA and try to give fair reviews of hotels from across the spectrum. Plus I rate a hotel within its class based on price NOT on the tripadvisor star rating. Lets face it most bang for the buck is what we are after. That Said, It is hard for me to rate this hotel higher than Two. The price was very high $278.00 per night. They do not have late checkout but they ultimately did not charge me for the extra day even though they said they would. They have an executive lounge morning and night with great items like coffee, tea, milk and sodas all including in the price. The rooms in this place are tiny and I mean tiny. I had to walk sideways to get in the bathroom and if the bathroom door was open you could not get in the closet. The beds were very comfortable room service was great and it is an easy walk downtown. For the price this place is not worth it. Stay in a nicer place for the money .

Manager Cut Me A Big Break on Cancellation Cost

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had to cut my trip short and cancel my room past the cancellation deadline. The reservations manager called me (at my request) and proactively offered to waive the cost. She was extremely courteous and understanding. They could have nailed me for the room cost and chose instead to put my interests first. Can't comment on the facility but customer relations gets A+.

beautiful rooms!

We stayed at the Sheraton for 2 nights. This hotel served our purpose- we were going to a concert at the St. Pete Times Forum, and we needed a place to shower and sleep. The rooms were BEAUTIFUL. The decor, as soon as you walk in, is very chic and inviting. The beds in the rooms are to die for comfortable. I WISH I had a bathroom vanity as nice as the one in my room! Very clean, large black and white photos throughout the hotel, buttercup and tope shade to the walls that make the rooms very relaxing. They obviously put a lot of effort into redesigning the hotel.
HOWEVER, I had called ahead to ask about the construction i had read about on tripadvisor, and the front desk agent told me it was finished. When we stopped in our 3rd floor room at about 12 noon to take a shower, there was drilling and hammering going on in the room right across from ours! That would have angered me if I had been trying to take an afternoon nap or just relax during the day. That was the extent of the construction I saw, though. Also, the bathtub in our room wasn't draining very well, but we didn't mind too much and simply mentioned it to the front desk as I was checking out.

After our concert, we were able to safely walk back to the hotel at 1am. There is a police station in the area and I did not see any sketchy individuals on the streets at night. The valet-only parking cost $10 with all day, in and out priviledges. We did not make use of the restaurant or food service because we chose to eat at the Marriott right next door to the St. Pete Forum. The Marriott is very nice, but much more expensive than the Sheraton. I paid $150 a night for my room, as opposed to the $250+ for other hotels in the area. I would recommend the Sheraton if you are going to an event at the Forum!

d go somewhere else...

I booked this hotel thru Hotels. I only wanted to find a hotel close to the port as we went on a cruise out of Tampa.

Well, we arrived around 11 am and our room was ready. They were still doing a TON of construction. Our room was ok, the bed was comfy but they were working on every floor. One of the guys said they had 2 floors done, but they were constantly working on our floor (5). There aren't many places to eat in walking distance and the restaurant in the hotel was closed that evening due to construction. The hotel smelled like paint and the elevator smelled like it was just stained. That was great, standing in an elevator that stunk with no ventilation! While we were in the room that afternoon, the maid came to the door and said the wanted to paint the balcony! Why would they rent this room if it needed to be painted? We told them to come back the next day. The hallway also smelled of paint or paint thinner. Again, no ventilation in the hot, humid air!

We had dinner at the Wyndham hotel, Jacksons, it was really good but came back to the room and the workers were outside cutting tiles for the walkway. This was at 11pm! Could hear them cutting it from our room, many floors up, as we were trying to sleep. Called downstairs and the hotel clerk was nice. They finished up shortly after that.

This hotel should be closed during construction. I worked at a hotel years ago and we would never rent rooms if the hotel conditions were in such disarray, especially for $99! Stay at the Wyndham!

May want to avoid during construction

from A TripAdvisor Member
Live in Orlando and went to Tampa for a weekend away. Room itself was excellent, but we were woken up at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning to construction noise. They conveniently forgot to tell us that they were under construction. Upon arriving, we were giving a letter staying the water would be turned off on a Friday night from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. The staff was friendly but there was no room service due to construction and the pool was closed....due to construction. I'm sure it'll be a great hotel when it's done, but before then, you may want to avoid it.

Fawlty Towers

from Company_President
Worst hotel stay in 15 years of business travel. AC didn't work properly, one morning shower didn't work at all, rude and unhelpful hotel staff, long waits for breakfast. If you want to experience the American version of Fawlty Towers stay here. Not recommended.

Awful stay at the Riverwalk

from Seattlite4
Stayed at the Riverwalk while attending a tradeshow in the area. Water was turned off one night and staff could not do anything to help. Were not compensated for the inconvenience. Whenever any requests were made, staff would answer "that will be available as soon as we become a Sheraton".
No desire to book this hotel ever again. No desire to return after it becomes a "Sheraton"
