Great staff, medicore room

from A TripAdvisor Member
The staff was great...the valet greeted us and had a short conversation with us; the front desk personnel performed quickly and efficently; other employees made sure to say hello. I had forgotten to bring toothpaste. The shop in the hotel was out of toothpaste. A security officer overheard this and told me that he would have some toothpaste sent up to my room. Within 5 minutes, an attendent brought toothpaste and mouthwash. Excellent job! However, the room could have been better. There was a small droplets of a grease type substance on the floor of the shower. The bathroom sink was cracked. The rooms were not the best at being soundproof. It took about 3 minutes before I was able to get hot water in the sink of our 6th floor room. I would probably look elsewhere if I were to stay in Tampa again...too bad, because the employees were great.

Great Stay in Tampa

Just Stayed at this hotel and had a outstaning experience. I would return here for any stay. other hotels in the area are extremy overpriced and this hotel has a gret price value

Good Experience

from DGryg
Stayed at the Hyatt on 9/16 (just before our cruise out of Tampa) for 2 nites through Hotwire for $67/nite. Overall, a good experience, clean rooms, toilet leaked a bit, very friendly and accommodating staff, nice pool area with hot tub. This was a fantastic location on the trolley line. Took a number of trips into Ybor City for nite life via the trolley and streetcars ($3 unlimited rides all day). Restaurant was overpriced, but great breakfast can be had at the First Watch restaurant just north of the hotel. I'd stay there again !

Rooms could be better

from hauptaj
I am currently staying at the Hyatt Regency Tampa as I write this. I've been here 2 nights so far. That staff has been very prompt and friendly, but the rooms leave something to be desired. My comforter on the bed must have had a tear in it and it's been stitched back together with heavy black thread...looks very tacky. The shower tiles are stained, there was even someone else's hair stuck to the shower wall when I got in. Gross. I'm here on a business trip and they're charging $140 a night which I think is way too high for the room I've got. If it were coming out of my pocket, I'd be very upset.

I had to laugh when I read someone else's comment that the elevators made scary noises. I've heard the loud clunk they make and I'm reassured to know that it's been happening for some time so it must be normal.

good deal for $70.00

from A TripAdvisor Member
Got a room at the Hyatt for $70.00 a night on Priceline. The staff was great - very friendly and helpful. My only complaint would be the bathroom. The bathroom was very tiny and had molding caulking between the tiles. The room service I had the night I got in was quick but the food was average. Still a good deal for $70, but I would be greatly disappointed if I had paid the $135.00 a night other travel websites were charging.

Great Experience

This was my first time to Tampa. It was a great time. The hotel was clean and everyone one was so Friendly. I would go here again. Very comfortable traveling alone.

Downtown Hyatt has seen better times

from A TripAdvisor Member
Filthy. Dated. Sticky carpeting. Bathroom tile cracked and dirty.
Stay at the Grand Hyatt near the airport if you are loyal to Hyatt.
Skip the downtown Hyatt, they are coasting on old reputation and good downtown business location.

excellent price- convenient location

from garyhondo
I had read some very mixed revies on this hotel. I got an excllent price this past week for my stay for Yankee spring training. The staff was excellent. The room is getting a little worn [CARPET, BEDDING]. However I would have no problem staying here again. The hotel is near highway 275. This makes the driving very convenient. I called valet many times and my car was ready within 3-4 minutes each time.

Great Downtown Tampa Location

We just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hyatt Downtown Tampa. First I want to say I am an avid priceline fan, but, you do get what you pay for. I bid on priceline for $50 for a 3 star hotel in tampa and this is what I received. The Hyatt, like my son said is no Renissance, but I don't have any big complaints. These are just FYI's, If you are looking for a plush pillow top bed you will not find it here, but if you are looking for a good central location at a decent price this is a good bet. You are within walking distance of the art museum (which has a great NY Yankee's display going on right now and is free on Saturday from 10 - noon). You are also a very close distance from the cruise ship if you are going on one. It is about a 10 minute drive from the sports complex for football or spring training fans. You are also about 10 minutes from Ybor City and all the eateries there. Also, though the coffee in the room isnt great, but again unless you are at a Renissance hotel it wont be, there is a Starbucks downstairs in the lobby. As far as the cost of food, the kids meals are a great deal. My kids got 2eggs, 2 bacon, 2 toast and hash browns for only $3. On the flip side the adult meals (well breakfast anyway) was $7 - $11 which was a little overpriced for the same type of meal. (If you go there i reccomend the southwest french toast). So, like I said for the $50 I spent on priceline for the hotel I feel I got my money's worth. If I were to pay full price I probably go somewhere else.

Very Nice All Around

from RayDar01
My husband and I stayed overnight before we went on a Carnival Cruise. First let me say, I booked through Priceline. I was not sure what to expect as I had never booked with Priceline. We were VERY HAPPY with everything! If we had paid full price, I would still be happy. We arrived by taxi. Bellhop was there to take bags. Checkin was effortless. Two story waterfall, kind of cool. Room was large. Kingsize bed. Everything looked clean and taken care of. No signs of wear or tear. We had a view of the pool and could see our cruise ship in the distance. The staff was informative and pleasant. We actually walked to Channelside for dinner. We could have taken a taxi or trolley, but the weather was very nice. Spent time in the hottub. Relaxing, just my hubby and I. Room service was prompt, even late at night. (we ordered pizza and milkshakes, nothing fancy. We were on vacation, so what the heck :) The hotel is right downtown Tampa, so it seemed a lot of the guests were businessmen. The pool doesn't get much sun as the tall buildings block it out by 2pm, but there were people sitting around reading and relaxing. Taxi took us to the pier for (I think) only $7. I would suggest this hotel to anyone who is spending the night in Tampa before a cruise. Book it through Priceline and only pay $60.

Top Local Tips for Tampa

Gasparilla Parade A must do! A great stress reliever (yelling and begging for beads--just like Mardi Gras).

Bus and Trolley Service Use the transportation system to get around downtown and over to Ybor City

Parking Tickets Issued Until the Very Last Minute I had only enough change to plug a meter until 7:52pm, meters were in effect until 8PM. Yup, I got a ticket.
