Service at the Alden Beach Resort was good. However, adds show rooms having great ocean views. Caution - not all of them do! Our room had an awful view of the back of a building across an alley, with a very noisy air conditioning unit that replaced the sound of crashing waves. Let the buyer beware.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Alden, and my wife is a "Neat Freak, I call her Mrs. Clean and she was completely satisified with the cleaniness of the resort and the staff who were courteous and always keeping the grounds nice and clean. We stayed in a Bermuda suite and wished we would have upgraded to the Nassau with the balcony overlooking the pool. Next time we go this is where we will book our trip. Older resort but updated and clean, no musty smell

Great Family Resort

The Alden Beach Resort is an excellent value. The hotel was clean and the staff very helpful. We arrive before check in and we were given a beeper so we can be paged when our room was ready. We were able to get changed and use the pool until the room was ready. The room was great with everything you would need to be able to cook and eat right at the hotel. The Alden had Great views and a nice beach that included a rental hut to rent chairs, water bikes, book dolphin cruises and parasailing. The pools were both warm and a nice place for the kids to swim while we grilled lunch on one of the four gas grills provided on the grilling porch. The Alden would be a place that we would like to return to the next time we go to Florida.

We chose to stay at the Alden after reading many negative reviews of other resorts we had picked out. I am so glad we stayed at the Alden!! Wonderful room with a fabulous view of the gulf and not to mention the fabulous sunsets each night!! The 2 pools were very clean and warm. The gulf was great for swimming during the day and body surfing in the late afternoon. Terrific restaurants all with in walking distance. I would recommend utilizing the kitchen in your room and eat out 1 meal a day. You have to go eat the Sea Critters Cafe in Pass-a-Grille, just 1 1/2 miles S. of the Alden. This was our first time to Florida and we will definitely be back to St. Pete as well as the Alden!!

My wife and I stayed at the Alden on 04/18-4/22. I was impressed from the get go. We arrived at 1130 and and were told our romm wasn't quite ready. The gentlemen gave us a pager and some beach towels and told us to enjoy the property in the meantime. I asked for directions to a grocery store. After giving me the directions, he offered to store the groceries if our room wasn't ready upon our return. We left the resort to grab lunch. While awaiting for our sandwiches, the pager went to off. Less than thirty minutes after trying to check in!! Wow! Now, the hotel is convient to various eateries. One must go the Caribbean Cafe about 2 blocks north. The Gulf was a little chilly, but it didn't deter us. The pools were kept at a perfect temperature. The hotel appeared to be among the best in the area. If you're looking for an excursion, you must see Ft. DeSoto Park, located about 15 minutes south. You can actually see sting rays swimming. The only admission is the 35 cent, yes cents, toll to get in.

I am a local and used to live in St. Pete. I've seen or been in many of the St. Pete beach properties. The Alden is one of the best for the family. I wouldn't go there for a get-away with my wife, but with the kids in tow, there is no better place in St. Pete Beach.

We stayed at the Alden Beach Resort with our two children (ages 3 and 5) and had a truly wonderful week!
The hotel is CLEAN, the staff are all helpful and friendly, and the location is perfect.
We're going back next year!!!

Overall not a bad place. Rooms could use updating and new beds. Pleanty of great restaurants in the area. Ok place for family if the weather is good....rooms are very small. Very no thrills.Was extremely unhappy with the water sport activities. We made reservations for Shell Island tour three times and three times they cancelled at the last minute. The same company handles the beach seating rentals and they messed that up three days in a row, they also close the beach seats very early for a resort (5:00). For sightseeing cruise, you are better off going down the street to Dolphin Landings, better deal and staff was great.

My 19 year old daughter and her friend spent several days at the Alden.
There was a bit of a problem at check in. We were booked in one building with a room facing the ocean, with a full stove, oven and frig. When we arrived they said the room did not have an oven. We were disappointed but took it anyway. The room had a tree blocking the view on one side but we did not really mind. My husband has worked with a nice chain of Hotel for many years. We are spoiled. I was not disappointed in our room at all. It smelled of newness when we went in.
The carpet was very plush and appeared new. The decorations and furniture was in perfect condition. I gave each of the girls a bed and I slept on the pull out sofa. I slept like a baby. I could not tell it was a sofa bed. There was PLENTY of clean towls under the vanity (which was seperated from the bath so you could accomidate three women). There was beach towels furnished daily and sometimes twice a day. We never needed a towel or washcloth. The kitchen was furnished with all matching dishes, silver, and glasses. Extra dishtowels, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and everything you needed was changed daily and there was s stash under the sink and in the cabinetl The beach was nice and we found sandollars by the bucketfull. The grounds were clean and the hot tubs just right. The girls loved the pool. I did laundry there and it was centrally located and very clean and safe. The parking garage was located beside our room and it was covered which helped our car not be so hot. The elevators are fast and there was never a wait. That is a blessing. The front desk was helpful and made adjustments in our bill due to the mix up with the room and the oven. It was our first trip to St. Pete and the hotel made our trip so nice we intend to make St. Pete our next trip to Florida and the Alden will be the only place we would stay.

If you are staying anywhere on St Pete Beach I have to say this is one of the nicer resorts there. Though I am not fond of St Pete Beach due to it's surroundings we stayed there against my better judgement.

We did not make a mistake this time around. We had a lovely time at the Alden. One poster stated that it was older, yes but all the property in this area is just that. This resort does NOT have the musty smell that you are greeted with often in Florida hotels due to the moisture. The two swimming pools are very nice, the area to park your car is shaded (which is a plus if you own your own vehicle). The little kitchen was very nice full size everything. The rooms were a little small but still well worth the stay. I would visit this location again if we ever stay on St Pete Beach. My love is Clearwater Beach if I had to choose. :)

The Alden Beach Resort at St Pete Beach in Florida is just wonderful!!!
This is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places I have ever stayed in Florida. The staff is wonderful and every inch of the hotel is kept in perfect condition. The grounds are so tropical and the beach is wonderful! Once you go believe me you will want to go every year!!

Top Local Tips for St. Petersburg

Renting a car We flew into Tampa and rented a car from Avis. This is the absolutely best way to get around while in the Tampa/St. Pete area. We put almost 400 miles on the car and still had gas left. We would highly recommend renting a car if you want to see different things like Busch Gardens, Gulf Boulevard, Ft. De Soto and we also went to a hockey game and a spring training baseball game. We got to see a lot of the west side of Florida and would go back again.

The Pier We went to the Pier on our way out of town, its located in St. Petersburg. Very nice half a day trip. The views are great, fun activities if you are up for it, bike rentals, boat charters, dolphin cruises, even a Pirate Ship boat cruise. They have an area where you can feed the Pelicans, this was one of the highlights for my kids. Definitely check this out.

Travel outside St. Pete Go to Sarasota. PArk de Soto, Prime outlets have good prices
