Service was great!

We had such a good time at the TradeWinds this past March! We were checked in in only a few minutes and headed up to our room, which was ready at 2:00 pm instead of their usual 4:00 pm check in. Our view was beautiful, and my fiance loved the pillows.

The staff was so friendly and accommodating! Everywhere we went on the ground someone was smiling at us or holding a door open. Our server (unfortunately I can't remember his name) in Bermuda's restaurant was attentive and really made us feel welcome.

We loved the ammenities, especially that there was an adults-only pool. The grounds were lush and tropical and the koi pond at the Sandpiper is lovely.

All in all we had a wonderful stay! Clean rooms, good food, excellent service, and of course...the beach!

A bit down market

This hotel is in a good location on a nice beach, however the hotel does need renovating. The dirty damp smelling carpet everywhere needs to go immediately! The indoor pool was dirty and I wouldn't let my children swim in it. There are not enough chairs around the outdoor pool as people seem to reserve them and go out for the day, leaving parents who need to watch their children in the pool unable to find a chair or lounger. The whole atmosphere felt a bit down market really and needs some money spent on it.

Excellent location near beach & amenities. Bar next door very noisy. Apartments well equipped but in need of updating. Gulf B'vard very dangerous to cross.

We stayed 4 nights at the Sandpiper (3/19/04-3/23/04). The first night we were put into a room on the third floor (#304) that overlooked a bar on the neighboring property. The room was supposed to be a suite, but the pocket door separating the two rooms did not work. Nor did the closet door. I tried to open the window overlooking the courtyard and it nearly fell on top of me. In addition, the room, especially the carpet, was very dirty. You didn't even want to take your shoes off.
Because it was late, we spent the night, but the next morning I went to the front desk and asked to be move to a different room or another Tradewinds property. The person at the desk was very considerate and understanding and found another room for us to move to. The new room was a 1000% improvement. It was the exact same layout as the first, but had been recently updated. The carpet was clean, the doors worked and, because it was on the first floor, it had a little patio right off the pool. From the pool was the path that led directly to the beach. This work out great for us. Our two teenagers were able to come and go from the beach without having to go up and down elevators or stairs and my wife and I were able to watch our 5 year old swim in the pool from our patio. The beach and access to it from our hotel were great!! Also, the general location of the hotel met our needs in terms of been conveniently located to restaurants and other services. I would recommend this hotel, but be sure they don't put you in unit #304.

Glad We Stayed

I read all the mostly negative reviews on this sight and thought I would be honest. We stayed there for 3 nights in March/04. I was very surprised to see how nice the rooms were and the staff was very pleasant. The grounds were always clean. We asked for a quiet room so we received on on the sixth floor in our own little area I believe it was room 6279. There were no other doors beside us at all and we had a wonderful partial ocean view. Couldn't get any quieter than that. The room was very clean the only downfall was no water pressure in the shower. The pools were clean and the Tiki Bar staff very happy people.
We would not hesitate to stay here again. I believe you should stay and see for yourself. We will go back again. !!!

Reasons I like the Sandpiper

from A TripAdvisor Member
Three of the reasons I keep going back to the Sandpiper are: Joanne, Beth and Carmen. They always may my stay special, and are so accommodating. They get your vacation off to a wonderful start! It's a comfortable resort and is a great place to relax at. It's nothing fancy, but sure is friendly. The price is right for a beachfront vacation.

Great Deal, Tons To Do!!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just stayed at the Sandpiper for the first time and really enjoyed it. The rooms needed some updating but the beautiful beach and friendly staff made up for it. We spent most of our time at the pool and on the beach where there was a ton of things to do. We were looking for a reasonably priced beach vacation and found it. We'll definitely give them another visit.

stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the worst hotel my family has ever stayed in. The room on the first night there, was more like a flop house room, the sheets didnt even cover the whole bed. I had to reach inside the toilet to flush it.The disenfect they sprayed in the room was overpowering. The swimming pool was so crowded, you couldnt swim, but you could stand shoulder to shoulder. The pool also looked very discolored from the heavy use.we have stayed at over a hundred resorts. This is the trip we laugh at.

Great Time- Great Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had a wonderful time. The beach is great, and the service is above all. The staff is friendly and very accomodating. The room had a little wear and tear, but that's why the price was so great. I will definitely stay here again!

Just got back from a weekend in St. Pete Beach. January 04. Got this hotel from expedia.com, however for the price ($100) I think we could have done better. We didn't check trip advisor like we usually do, because then we were always changing our mind. If we had we would have gotten a better nights sleep the first night. Make sure you get a room facing on the East side of the Motel. The rooms facing towards the North West are too close to Barnacle Bill's and they play loud base music until 1:00 am. After complaining the next morning we were then upgraded to a superior suite for the same price. That room was much nicer. Both rooms needed updates, like new mattresses, new tvs, new paint and carpets. It was fairly clean and the day staff were nice. The beach and all the outdoor amenities were wonderful. We found a great Seafood Restaurant at John's Pass called Friendly Fisherman (just a few miles North up the beach). I probably wouldn't stay there again.

Not like the brochure looked

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at the Sandpiper over Thanksgiving 2003. We choose the Sandpiper because it was suppose to be the more intimate, quiet resort. Not so... When we checked in the staff was wonderful and very helpful, to bad the facility is in desperate need of up grades. We got excited because they upgraded us to a mini suite. The last one they had for the weekend they said. I can see why. It had an A/C leakage in the bedroom, so the carpet was wet and there was mold growing on the ceiling near the vent. The furniture and carpets are really showing age. It was clean though. The room was not quiet due to the bar two resorts down that played music till 2 am. We didn't use the pool because it was always full of kids but the beach beautiful and our room did have a great view of the gulf. My next biggest complaint was the way the resort was presented on the website. It said it was a large tropical resort with numerous restuarants. What they left out was that the two resort are not connected, that there are 2 other properties between the Sandpiper and the Grand resort and most of the restuarants are at the Grand Resort. So it was not real convient to just walk to a restaurant or bar. The resort was okay but I would not stay there again.

hotel not bad/town boring

from Phoenixtraveller
I booked this hotel through priceline and paid $90.00 I then checked the reviews and was reluctant to stay here. I didn't think the hotel was bad at all. okay...a bit older but our room had an ocean view and and was adequate. There isn't much to do around the hotel...some dive bars, etc. Don't be afraid to stay here. We took nice walks on the beach......then headed south to Longboat key which is MUCH better beach-wise and has alot more to do at night.

t stay again

from jlafrentz
We stayed at the Sandpiper for 2 nights in early November and even though the location on a nice beach was great, the hotel needs a lot of work. The wallpaper in our room was beginning to come down at the bottom of some walls, major cracks in our bathroom sink, rust on fridge, some tile coming up on entryway into room, and on and on.

Top Local Tips for St. Pete Beach

Eat at Mangia Mangia was a really nice restaurant with a surprisingly large menu, and they were willing to make anything you wanted.

Good restuarants Snappers across the road from the hotel is excellent. A little pricier than some, but the food and service is fantastic. All restaurants in the area seemed to be very busy, so early booking at peak times is essential. Having said this, Snappers and others have outside bar areas, where you can chill out and wait for your table.

St Petes Beach Its Absolutely Beautiful!!
