I was really worried about going here with my family because of all the bad reviews I had read, but when I got there it was amazing. The staff were really helpful and we were soon sorted and showed to our rooms. The rooms were really clean and everything was in working order. the beds were changed everyday and the cleaners gave you new towels etc.. the beach was gorgeous and there was hardly any one in the 3 pools. I had a really good time at the sirata beach resort and did not want to leave.

Great time at the Sirata

My husband and I absolutely loved our trip to Sirata (Nov 14-17.) We booked our rooms through the internet and weren't really sure what to expect. We arrived early but they let us go to our room which had been upgraded for free to a suite. We had a private balcony which overlooked the bay. The pools, beach, and cabanas were all very clean and quiet.
We did pay a resort fee of $5.00 per day but that covered parking, free local and toll free phone use, workout room, and beach cabanas.
Everyone that worked at the Sirata was very friendly. We can't wait to plan our next to trip to the Sirata.

Two weeks of relaxation at the Sirata Beach

We have just got back from two great weeks at the Tradewinds Sirata Beach. The standard room we expected turned out to be a suite. A bedroom, bathroom, separate living room with sofa bed and a kitchen area consisting of cooker, fridge/freezer, sink, plenty of units. There was ample room for clothes in wardrobe space and drawers. Two TV's.Having our own kitchen enabled us to buy from the local supermarket and eat in if we wanted to and allowed us to stock up on cold drinks, etc.The room had a balcony which overlooked the beach and down past the Don Ceasar. Service was good. An adult only pool was available - which unfortunately some parents ignored - but mostly a quiet haven to read and relax.We would recommend this hotel as good value for money and will definately return.Thank you Sirata Beach for a good two week rest!

Be prepared to demand better accommodations

My mother (age 54) and I (age 30) spent five nights at the Sirata Beach Resort in October 2003. I agree with other reviews on this website that the hotel is incorrectly labled a "resort." I think potential guests should be aware that this establishment offers both outside motel-style and inside suite-style rooms. Upon check-in we were put into a motel-style room that openned directly to the outdoors. When we opened the door to the room, the smell of mold and mildew made me gag. My mother, who has asthma, had an attack after only five minutes exposure to the room. Mildew was present on the ceiling and walls, and caked on the mini-fridge and inside the window-box airconditioner. The bedding and hotel literature was damp. I was born and raised in Florida, and I understand that the humidity does cause rooms to become damp. However, this room was uninhabitable. The room was even missing the smoke detector. To the hotel's credit, the front desk did move us to an inside luxury suite (complete with central a/c in the hallway and room, ocean view, balcony and a very clean kitchenette stocked with dishes/glasses/utensils), but only after attempting to get us to pay an upgrade fee. We refused to pay the additional fee and the hotel acquiesced. We did not have additional room complaints, however the hotel's restauarant and bar options were extremely limited due to the limited number of establishments and closing times. Also, beach cabanas were in disrepair ($20 per day charge). The adult area pool was very small and quite often crowded with screaming children doing cannonballs. We were also disappointed upon check-out when the hotel attempted to make us pay a mandatory $10 resort fee, which we were told upon check-in was only optional. We refused and in the end the hotel did not charge us the fee. If you decide to book a room at this hotel, make sure you specify that you want an inside, suite style room, and find out all of the fees that will be assessed in addition to your room rate.

unexpected paradise

I was a little leary of staying at the Sirata after reading some of the reviews here, but I was pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the surroundings and excellent service at the hotel. My fiance and I walked up and down the beach, and out of all the hotels, (even the pricey Don Cesar) the Sirata had the largest area and softest sand. I highly recommend this hotel if you want five star teatment at a three star price! If you are the adventurous type, and want to try out the water sports, I recommend Captain Mike. Captain Dave's watersports' employees were very rude, and did not give us our promised t-shirts after we waited for them all week.

t wish for better

We spent 7 days here after spending 3 nights in Orlando and we had a great time. We were 1st given a 6th floor room but as my husband hates being high up we asked for an exchange. This was no problem to the ever helpful staff on reception they gave us another room immediatly. This we found was an upgrade to a suite rather than a standard room which we had paid for. The room itself was very clean on arrival and cleaned daily, we had left our dirty cups one morning and they even washed them for us. The pool we used was always clean, in fact as I couldn't sleep I was sat on the balcony and watched them cleaning the water and poolside. This hotel is no longer part of the tradewinds group and maybe this is working for the better but if you are thinking of a holiday in St Petes you wont be disapointed picking this hotel to stay at.

Could be a great resort if...

This resort has so much going for it if they would just do some major renovations! The beach is wide and beautiful and the pools are nice but the rooms need new rugs, paint and the kitchenettes are in bad need of remodeling. The housekeeping was a joke as our room was only done 3 times the whole week we were there, no matter how many times we called to complain! The front desk was very lax and many times there would be no one at all at the front desk or in the lobby to assist you.

Motel - not a resort!!!!!

I stayed at the Tradewinds from August 18 - 22, and what a disappointment! After looking at the website for the hotel, I was led to believe that I would be staying at a resort - this is entirely not the proper word to describe the Tradewinds. It is more of a 200+ room hotel, and the other "Resorts" located nearby, are not much better. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot for the hotel, we immediately went out looking for another hotel to stay at. The only other suitable "resort" we could find was the Island Grand "Resort", a sister "Resort" of the Tradewinds. However, the $265 for a room there would have been more of a rip off than the $89 I paid for the Tradewinds. I am used to staying at higher quality resorts, and Tradewinds doesn't even come remotely close to being that. We actually were going to drive to Disneyworld to stay for a nite or two there in order to get away from the Tradewinds. My vacation was in part ruined because of what the Tradewinds is not. Among the problems at the "resort": The rooms are small and look like they haven't been updated or thouroughly cleaned in a while. The A/C unit and refrigaratorwere extremely loud. The paint is chipping away all over the "resort". There is totally no night life at the "resort" - most of the "tiki bars" were closed early, and were so run down I wouldn't even want to have a drink at any of them. Our room was above the BBQ restaurant so we smelled hickory smoke all the time.
The motel-type outdoor hallways were always wet from dripping A/C units. The bathrooms were small and not what you would expect at a "resort". The outdoor furniture was rusting and the noise from the pool was loud. Some of the door knobs outside were totally covered with rust. The elevator felt like it would give way when you stepped onto it. One day the room wasn't cleaned so after we called the front desk, someone came up and just picked up the dirty towels and pulled the bedspread over the bed and that was all. The outdoor cabanas on the beach smelled musty from being left out all the time. There was really no good place to eat anywhere at any of the 3 "resorts". The grounds of the hotel do not resemble any type of "resort". When we checked out I told the manager about my complaints and asked for a refund on the rooms, however he said since the room was booked on Travelocity, they would have to issue me a refund, they could not. All in all, anyone expecting to stay at a resort should pass on the Tradewinds as this is DEFINATELY NOT A RESORT. I honestly feel that the Tradewinds does not deliver what it advertises and that it should remove the word resort from its name. Anyone who is thinking of staying here should read all of the reviews and decide if they really want to stay here. I know I never will again and will encourage others to look elsewhere when looking to book a vacation.

NOT VERY IMPRESSED

We just returned from our 7 night stay at this resort. We were in room 4442. I really thought this place would have been much better than it was. I was very disappointed and not impressed. I would say at best it is a 3 star motel type place. There is NO resort feel nor is the service very good. First of all....we requested a non-smoking room....the room we finally got had a musty, dirty smoky smell and we called the front desk immediately...the operator said they were too busy to talk to us and they would call back right away. Well, it took too long to get back to us...so we called again (about a half hour later) the front desk clerk informed us that all the rooms are non-smoking and they would have someone come sanitize the room....well, it never happened. So, I got fed up and went out to buy some air freshener. It didn't really help at all. Next we tried to use our room safe...which was broken. It appeared to have been like 20 years old anyway! we called and asked someone to come up and talk to us about it.
No one ever showed up....so we called again...hours later....someone finally came by and told us the safe was useless and he would replace the lock and give us a key etc. He said he would *get right on it* needless to say we never saw that person again. I was very nervous about leaving valuables in the room....because, we were robbed on our first night in St. Pete at a restaurant! we lost over $400 cash, because we didn't have a room safe to use at our motel....I mean *resort* The pools are small and the kids pool was dirty. They were pretty busy too with lots of kids jumping in and out of the water. I was nervous someone would get hurt. One day the kids' pool was shut down because it was sooo filty and something was wrong with the cleaning filters...so we had to use the adult pool. That could be why you have read posts about kids in the adults only pool. You have to go somewhere with your kids to cool off in that heat! The room was dirty...the toilet was disgusting...I never wanted to touch it....I could clearly see urine stains on the bottom of the toilet and on the sides. The floors appear to have never been properly cleaned....I can only imagine how gross the beds really are. I didn't want my kids sitting on the floor at all. The cleaning people are not doing their jobs or they are not supervised or maybe they aren't provided with the proper cleaning products or skills to do a decent job. I was quite grossed out by the room. We were told we would have a full kitchen...it was a galley kitchen at best....with a tiny bar type fridge and no oven. The only good thing I can say is it is right on the beach and it is not crowded...at least when we were there. If we hadn't already pre-paid for our stay....I would have checked out the moment we got there and checked into the DON CESAR RESORT. I can deal with a lot of things...but this place was really bad in my opinion. I have no idea why or how it is still in business. I guess some people are really really really easy to please. I would NOT recommend or ever stay there again. Good luck if you are going to stay there. Maybe bring your own cleaning supplies and a safe.

For the price we paid (149 $Cdn), the hotel was very good. Room was clean (One bedroom Suite) and Ok with kids. I wouldn't brought my wife on honeymoon however. Hotel localisation is great ! Will recommend to friends

Great Accomodations at the Sirata

My family of four stayed at the Sirata the week of July13 and loved every minute! Don't let the bad reviews of a few discriminataing people discourage you from giving this hotel a try. This is NOT a run-down motel...far from it! The other posters who have complained must live in the lap of luxury and such "comfortable" accomodations must not meet their standards. The room we had (4446) was a one bedroom suite that was immaculately cleaned and had everything you needed, you won't find yourself staying in your room much anyway, there's so much to do. The beach was beautiful and never crowded and it was fun to watch all the seagulls and pelicans in the evenings. There are three pools at the Sirata and they were never so crowded that you felt confined to a corner. Harry's Beach Bar served excellent drinks and has "Jimmy Buffet style" performers on the weekends which really puts you in a tropical mood. Approx 60% of the Sirata were families, it bills itself on the web as kind of the wilder of the Tradewinds properties, but it is not wild at all, very family friendly and the best of all three Tradewinds properties. The Island Grand was a little uptight for my liking, but my 6 year old loved all the KONK activities there. Definitely go to Durango's for dinner, it was delicious, we ate there twice. I never had a bad experience with the staff, everyone was very friendly and helpful. You will have a great time if you stay here unless you accustomed to champagne and caviar and live in the lap of luxury.

Top Local Tips for St. Pete Beach

Spinners Restaurant A rotating restaurant, need I say more? It is totally worth the visit. Have a drink and see the view. JUST DON'T EAT THERE. The food is awful. My clam chowder was inedible - the broth had separated so it was almost grainy. The grouper special had this nasty artichoke cream sauce which sounded really good in theory but wasn't at all in reality. We has to send it back.

Easy to get to off of I 75/ I 275 Do a lot of research and actually talk to reservationists at the particular hotel you are interested in

Good Coffee Good freshly brewed coffee was not readily available in this area....so bring your own favorite to brew for yourself in the room - if you like your coffee (the kind we got from the hotel to use for brewing wasn't very tastey) We looked high and low for a good cup of coffee to no avail...not even from the "coffee/wine shop" nor from the fancy resturant at our hotel. (the pot cost $13 and tasted like old instant coffee) I guess they aren't coffee people in St. Pete, either that or we missed out big time.
