I stayed at this place with my husband two daughters and crawling baby boy , this place stank of cooking fat from the kitchen extractor , there were bottle tops under the edge of the bed along with loads of filth. My baby`s feet did not touch the sticky carpeting the whole 8 hours we had to stay there, We arrived late at night and then spent 2 hours trying to book ourselves into better accomodation somewhere else. We spent a very uncomfortable night with people running up and down the passage outside our room. As we prematurely checked out the following day I explained why we could not stay any longer, the receptionist seemed surprised, even though as I stood there the smell of grease and fat was making me nauseous, she must be used to it.

Good location - Bugs in the bathroom!

It was a great location for what we wanted, but there were bugs in the bathroom everday! I saw them spraying but it didn't seem to help. I would not stay there again.

Small rooms in a great location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from 4 nights at the Best Western Beachfront Resort on St. Pete's Beach. We weren't paying for a luxury hotel, so we didn't expect one -- and we were satisfied. The proximity to the beach is wonderful. It's not a problem to walk back to your room from the beach if you forgot to take something along, or to have lunch.

The gardens and fountain in the courtyard were beautiful with lots of hibiscus and bird of paradise in bloom. There were two pools in the central courtyard. One was rather small. We had it entirely to ourselves on two occasions, which made the small size a plus. The other pool was larger and usually busy. We swam in it one afternoon, but found the water to be on the dirty side. The skimmer system was not functioning correctly because the pool was too full.

Jimmy B's Beach bar had live music most evenings and was popular with the partying crowd. There was a deck with outdoor seating overlooking the beach. Drinks were kind of expensive, but we never went there during happy hour when there were discounts. There wasn't much of a menu here -- mostly basic burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches. The same menu applied at Players Sports Bar, which is located behind the hotel lobby.

The downside to staying here was the rooms, which were on the small side, not recently updated -- but clean. We didn't use our room much, and the size didn't bother us too much, even though we were four people (two adults and two teenage girls) in the room.

We had the misfortune of being in the area during intermittant Red Tide occurrances. Apparently, this happens occasionally in the area and the beach becomes covered with dead fish -- not very pleasant. If you're planning to visit, check the web for reports on red tide in the area (although it's hard to predict exactly where it will be when.)

Best Western Beachfront Resort,food, attractions

The Best Western was fairly good. We had a good room facing the beach. There is 2 bars on the premises, and can be a little loud. We dont drink, so cant really comment . Not much of a family place. My family stayed 6 nights. (3 adults and 1 child). The pools could of been cleaner. The landscaping was beautiful. Front desk and our housekeeper was friendly. Rooms could of been a little cleaner and our refrigerator wasnt very cold. We kept most of our drinks in cooler. Parking wasnt that great, but parking was bad all over the area ( St. Pete to Clearwater). Went parasailing and arranged that with the motel. Daughter and Husband loved that. Husband went deep sea fishing at dolphings landing. Its just down the street behind a shopping center. He liked it and caught some snapper fish. The crew on the boat cleaned fish for him and he brought it home. Water was a little rough that day, and fishing wasnt as good as it can be. Alot of kids on the boat running all around him. That disturbed his fishing trip some what. Went to shell Island with the dolphins landing crew at 8 am. We was the first boat on island, and got alot of shells. Not the really hugh pretty ones you see in the store. Its not really what I expected. Shell Island is really no big deal. Went to Johns Pass. My favorite area. Took a cruise on the pirate ship. Crew was fun and the kids loved it. Adults of course was drinking, and I didnt care for that. Alot of drinking and promoting of alcohol everywhere in that area( St Pete to Clearwater). Alot of neat little shops, but beware I got ripped off a pair of dolphin earrings by the store clerk. I handed her 2 pairs of earrings to hold at the cash register, while I shopped in the back of the store. I didnt want her to think I was trying to steal them. When I got back up to the front to pay for all my purchases she had both earrings in a little zip locked bag. When I got home I realized I only had 1 pair the 2nd pair behind the 1st was missing and only the earring holder was there and no earrings. I dont remember the name of the store. If I did I certaintly would post it. They only cost $ 4.50. Went to st. Petersburg pier down town, not much there. Went to pier 60 at clearwater at sunset. Alot of street performers and vendors. That was fun. I bought 2 glass blown figurines. A dolphine and a pelican. It was really neat watching him make them. Very talented. There was dog and parrot shows, jugglers and artists. Went to Fort De Soto Park. Beautiful beaches. It was just rated #1 in the country the week we were there. Just gorgeous. Restaurants was not all that great. Very casual and more like a bar setting. We went to pass a grille and ate at the Wharf. It should be named the Barf. It was nasty. Dirty and not friendly. Food was greasy and not eatable. I ordered crab cakes. The grease that they fried them in must of never been changed. It had so much pepper in the crab cakes I couldnt eat them. We spent over $70.00 for 3 adults and 1 child dinners. Nobody liked there food, and the waitress wasnt freindly, and the place was dirty I only went there, because I read a good review about it, and that must of been the owner who wrote it. Totally nasty!! My dog wouldnt of ate it. Would recommend the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant at Johns Pass. Good service and food. We ate there 3 nights. Crabby Bills wasnt bad, but you have to sit on a picnic table. They have a good grilled grouper sandwich and good service. Ate at skidders for breakfast twice, and it was clean, good food and service. Ate at the ihop in St Pete for breakfast once. Bad food and service. Ate at Leverocks. They had good food and service, but I liked the Friendly Fisherman the best. The worst was the Wharf. Overall I was disappointed with the restaurants I was expecting alot of good all you can eat seafood buffets. There isnt any. I wanted the restaurants to be like myrtle beach with many all you can eat seafood buffets. I had a good vacation, but probably will be going to myrtle beach next year. Its better for the family.

Not a bad place, location is key

Stayed here for a two night getaway. Front desk very friendly, grounds well kept rooms, were adequate but the temperature was one extreme or the other, you either froze to death or it muggy and humid. Service at the beach bar wasn't that great. Servers and bartenders seem a bit cranky but great location and lively crowd. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for a quiet retreat as the band plays til the wee hours of the morning but anyone looking for a cheap place on the beach with basic ammenities, I definitely recommend it.

Looking for family vacation? Stay away from Best Western Beach Resort

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you looking for family vacation spot, beware of Best Western Beachfront Resort. Place have an atmosphere of cheap run down apartments for $ 129.00 a night. This "resort" was recommended to us by well-known .com travel agency as one of few hotels on the beach, but beach is not the problem. Resort has an outdoors bar right by the pool. Bar customers are authorized to use the pool. We arrived on April 1, 2005 in the afternoon. When we saw the drunks in the pool with playing children and floating beer bottle, we cancelled the hotel. I suppose, you get what you pay for.

Smokers paradise

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just back from a stay of March 19-29, 2005.

Smokers will love this place, both the main bar, Players and the Beach Bar specifically allow smoking. They do have non-smoking rooms but you can't take your children to either bar without running the blue haze. This is too bad as they offer pool tables and interactive online trivia, but again, if you don't smoke you won't stay long.

The standard guest room is okay, but our bed was in horrible condition, torn on the bottom and very discoloured. Just don't look to closely at the bathroom. There was discoloured sealant near the tub, and it was cracked in places. They don't really wash the tub walls down. I know, I clean my home bathrooms and those bathtub walls were not cleaned, maybe just rinsed off at best.

AC is a wall unit, turn it off and you will slowly roast, turn it on and the noise will keep you up. The windows, except a small one in the bathroom don't open, which is a big mistake.

The kitchen does offer a limited menu of about 7 items, but there are several good restaurants nearby.

The beach bar has good to very good bands, but non-smokers will need to stay outside as this bar attracts every smoker along the beach.

Would we stay here again, no. The property does have an excellent courtyard and the pools are okay, but it is not being run to the standards it could be and the smoking bars and restaurant are a turn off. You realize that this would be a great property in the right hands. Best Western should pay more attention to the quality of its properties.

Loved the courtyard and well maintained grounds....

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a three night stay at the Best Western Beachfront resort and were pleasantly surprised. The courtyard was very tropically landscaped and well maintained. The parking was a bit odd, since one must back out from a space and continue backing down the side of the building, but once we realized that this was done so that you didn't have a veiw of a parking lot, it seemed a minor inconveinence. We have stayed at the Sirata for much more money and had to look out at cars before going to the beach. The rooms were of average size, but it was nice to have a table in the kitchenette area. The closet was walk-in, and offered plenty of storage room. Our room was fairly clean, but a bit dated. As the hotel offered so much to do--two pools, beach bar, and the ocean just steps away, we were hardly in our room. Our four year old loved the heated pool and walking on the beach. I might not suggest this hotel for someone who wants to go to sleep by 7 or 8 o'clock, but if you are looking to have a goodtime, a few cocktails, and enjoy the Florida weather, this is the place for you. Get a second floor room as the traffic is less and the view is better. We hope to return and bring our friends.

OK if often sightseeing

from A TripAdvisor Member
Got a good deal - got what I paid for. Kind of expected more, but it did do OK because we were often away from the hotel exploring the other parts of St. Pete.

Right on the beach!
Helpful front desk
Lots of trees, somewhat of a beach feel.
Pool was nice, esp @ night.

Worst parking I've experienced (parking on the side is a killer)
Shower water pressure was awful - often changing temps
Party bar was annoying at night
Towels @ pool? No.
Kind of "old" feel

Pretty good

If you want a big high-rise "resort" with lots of "amenities", this place is not for you. We looked at a couple of such resorts in the same price range and found the two-story BW more appealing. We used a coupon from the books available at various visitor centers. At least during the week in season, the BW is low-key, though the outdoor beach bar is very lively with good entertainment and a youngish crowd. (Thankfully, the band moves to a sound-proofed area at 730.) Because it attracts patrons from all over, not just the BW, including a few on motorcycles, it might get too loud on weekends for some.
There is only very limited food service, but who wants to eat at their hotel anyway? Parking is indeed tight and there are no true ocean views. The rooms have a microwave, fridge, good beds, and an adequate clean bathroom. The rooms are on two motel-like floors, but are nicely landscaped and with front windows facing two inviting pools in the courtyard, and back windows to parking.
