Historical Traveller Reviews of Lido Beach Resort Hotel

Very good for the money

from Bill_123
We enjoyed in mid-April 2004 our four day stay at the hotel. The comfortable, clean, 2-twin bed room with kitchenette in the old building was about $130 a night. The hotel guest tended to be upper-middle class people and several had children, which were well behaved at the pool and the placid gulf coast beach. The staff maintained the two pools and three hot-tubs well. My kids loved the small waterfall and pond containing turtles and small fish in the courtyard between the tower and old building.

Sample Hidden Costs
Parking and local calls were free.
Beach chair on the beach $15.
Tiki bar - $7.50 per frozen drink, $3-4 per beer.

The staff was nice but not as obsequious as the Don Casar staff in St. Petersburg. The Radisson staff let us check-in early and told if the room was not ready they would have suggested using their changing room and relaxing by the pool or beach. They appeared to lack a concierge, though they did have concierge desk with a binder of local restaurants. We found El Greco in downtown Sarasota quite good for Greek take-out food.

best hotel to stay at in the area

Very nice place. Stayed in smaller tower overlooking patial pool and partial ocean. It is very pretty. rooms are comfortable and nice too. Totally . has 3 jaccuzzi and 2 pools. If you like more of hotel living, then this is the place to be. I paid $132. a nite *10%sales tax. Using a triple aaa card.

good for the $$ and good for relaxing

from oneLten
i stayed at the hotel the last week of deceber 2003 in the "old" building. the room was fine (clean, no odors) and had a kitchenette. we made use of the kitchenette by shopping a local market and saved $$ by not having to eat out every night. the beach, pools, and hot tubs were fine too. i though the tiki bar was excellent...the drinks were big and strong; the food is typical bar food. the shuttle was helpful to the airport (but allow extra time for travel since the traffic on and off the key is pretty dense). i had no problems with the staff, they did their jobs...maybe not smiling all the time, but so what? my only complaint is that i am a light sleeper and our neightbors were early risers and i could hear everything they said to each other when they were on the lounging on the common deck outside the window. i turned on the A/C fan and that solved it. the hotle had mostly middle to upper-middle class couples and families. i would suggest grabbing a lounge chair early, by 1100am they are usually taken for the day.
in conclusion, i felt i recived a great value for my money. the beach is beautiful and the key is fun to walk around. my impression of sarasota is that it is a place where you go to relax...meaning you sit pool-side and drink fruity drinks and watch the sun set. i would defintately stay there again, maybe in tower next time.

Almost perfect ;)

We just returned from our honeymoon and we wanted to stay in Sarasota area for one night so we just drove down from Tampa and this looked like the nicest place to stay. I honestly think it was too. The area is a little boring but the beach is beautiful and very peaceful. Our room was in the north (short) tower and it was very nice with 2 queen size beds and little fridge & microwave. The beds were very, very comfortable. My only complaint was a little musty smell in our room( there was "DAMP-RID" in a cabinet to try to absorb the moisture) but the room itself was very clean---
The staff was friendly too and organized! We would definately stay here again!

Pretty nice but...

Be warned: if you reserve a junior suite with a "bay view" on the tenth floor of the new tower, you may get a room with a "roof view." When I opened the curtains, all that was visible was the roof and air conditioning units. That's not what I expected for $257 a night.
However, after complaining, our room was upgraded to beachfront at no additional cost. The rooms are new and clean, tiled instead of carpet, lots of complimentary toiletries, and a couple bottles of water and microwave popcorn each day. We had a good breakfast in the downstairs restaurant, but the service was less than friendly and efficient.

Average Vacation

We just returned from a stay at the Radisson Lido Beach resort. We expected it to be quite nice for the price we paid and also the pictures on the website. We were slightly disappointed after seeing our room b/c it was much older and run down than the pictures showed on the website.... I soon found out why.... The south tower is much better, my parents had a room there that was just like the pictures..... but those rooms are more expensive.... they only got moved over there b/c the hotel made mistake in their reservation. Ours was clean just not really pretty or new. Beach was great - $20 to rent Cabana for the day but you have to get out there early - not too many of them. Pools are OK - little small. Tiki bar food is really really slow. Drinks expensive but good. We ended up having to change rooms at 10pm our 1st nigth b/c our AC stopped working and our room smelled like smoke b/c it was a smoking room when we really requested non. They changed us to a pool view in the old building - not real great - it is right in front of the pool so it was quite busy - always had to have the curtains closed for privacy and couldn't see the ocean.... also the bathroom smelled of Sewer like someone else mentioned.... Overall, we were a little disappointed and next time we will probably stay in the other tower or go somewhere else. Also, there is no free breakfast . This was a little odd to us and the buffet the offer is like 8.99 w/o a drink.

Less than stellar

Although Lido Beach is a wonderful area, we give the Radisson a thumbs down. The facility has two pools, and three hot tubs. Although an individual was responsible for the pool daily, I never noticed anyone maintaining the area. By the time we left, I was afraid to go into the hot tubs because of the scum around the water line. The best part was the sewer gas which seeped into our bathroom due to high winds.
Management's solution to the problem was placing an ionic filter in our bathroom, which in most cases took care of the problem unless it was particularly gusty. Needless to say, we will not be return guests.

What more can I say? I love this resort hotel!!! My husband and I stayed there in July 2003, for our anniversary October 2003, and again last February 2004. And even though the room rates in February were twice the rate--it was still well worth it! It is the best place to stay on Lido Beach. The staff is friendly and very accomodating. We hope to return in July 2004!

It has been three years March 2004 since we were at the Radisson in Lido Beach, but I think about that week every day. They were just starting to build the other building and we so looked forward to going back the next year. Unfortunately, we haven't even made it out of the State of Ohio for the last two years. However, we are hoping to have a vacation this year, and I just can't think of staying anywhere else.
The staff was wonderful and kind. Our room was spotless. And just when you thought it couldn't get any better, you walked outside and were on the beach. I was up at 4:30 a.m. every morning (for me that's not the norm), as I didn't want to miss one minute. We walked the beach at 5:30 a.m., came back to our room and ordered room service (coffee, bagels and toast). I dream of that vacation everyday and hope I can get back there this year. I truly missed not being able to go this last year due to cancer but I'm on the mend and looking forward to my vacation at the Radisson. You definitely get your money's worth. Did I mention their restaurant? AWESOME FOOD! If you are thinking about booking a room, STOP THINKING and DO IT! You WON'T regret it.

Beautiful, on the beach and friendly

We stayed at the Radisson the 1st weekend in February 2004. Our room was in the tower; a nice jr. suite (meaning the room is a combined kitchen and bedroom with a very nice bath) with a balcony looking over the beach & Gulf. The room was very clean and fairly new.

Although we meandered all over the area, we did eat at the hotel twice.
Christopher's is a better than the norm "restaurant at the top of the hotel". Nice wine list and great views.

Every staff member we encountered was honestly friendly. The bartender told me much of the staff had worked there a long time. They seemed to like their jobs; which makes a more relaxing stay for the guests.

We will definitely stay there again; and we're rather picky.

Top Local Tips for Sarasota

Dining Out If you eat at hotel, very expensive, of course. Ask the locals where they go; often they are the best places and much more affordable. St. Armands Circle was also expensive, but would reccommend the Lido Grille for dinner and the Blue Dophin Cafe for breakfast, both were good and more affordable than other places.

Tibbals Circus Museum If you have children with you, take them to the Ringling Brothers Museum and see the new Tibbals Miniature Museum, amazing.

Selva Grill For one of the best meals you can have in Sarasota, check out the Selva grill on main St.
