very nice but too expensive

I've been here two years in a row for 5 days each time. First, I must say I've never met housekeeping staff who are nicer than these folks - they go out of their way to be friendly, show such a genuine interest in my son, just very happy people. The front desk staff were also very helpful and nice.

Last year my room had a beautiful view of Sarasota Bay (unfortunately I didn't get a room with a balcony) so this year we requested one overlooking the pool and marina and it is amazing. One morning we saw a mama and baby manatee swimming around in the marina right outside! I also like the Boathouse restaurant and I love the swimming pool - it is one of the best I've been in: it is large, has a zero-entry at one end for young kids, a waterfall at the other end and lots of tables and lounge chairs. It's also right next to the marina so you can face the water and watch the boats coming in and out. Our room was clean and the bedding was nice. We did have ants though, on the 2nd floor. I don't like the fact that they do not offer free internet (if you want it you have to pay $10 per day through T-Mobile) and I think they could offer a free breakfast instead of a very expensive one as the only option. However, there are many places to eat within blocks of there - I went to Whole Foods for lunch every day to avoid the hotel cuisine.

I have to agree with previous posters that it is a little expensive; I come here for a work function so I don't have to pay the bill but if I were I would probably find one a little less expensive with the same amenities. Overall though, it is a very nice place to stay.

Great Location and Pool, but Overpriced

Hyatt always seems overpriced to me, and the Sarasota Hyatt is no exception. There is no question that this hotel is in one of the best locations in Sarasota with views of the bay and hotel's marina from most rooms. The pool area and marina are very nice and relaxing.

The room decor is very tasteful and comfortable; however, the linens are average and the bedding just so-so. I expect Hyatt to provide me with the same quality of bedding and linens found currently at Hilton and Crowne Plaza hotels. I have stayed at new Hampton Inns with much higher quality bedding and linens than this much more expensive Hyatt.

In true overpriced Hyatt fashion, the restaurant breafast fare featured a buffet at a whopping $18 a person and standard menu entrees for no less than $11.50 each.

Unfortunately, as you can see, I paid way too much for this stay.

Overpriced

This hotel was listed on priceline as being four star. It's not. The rooms are very average- even dated- and the beds/pillows not very comfortable. We were part of a large group and booked the hotel through priceline for $120 a night. One group member didn't use priceline and paid $275 a night. These rooms are not, not, not worth that much.

Also, the service at the restaruant during breakfast was very slow. I ordered the sticky bun french toast with blueberries and pecans- there was a great picture of it on the menu. When I received this item, it did not look like the lovely picture and was without blueberries and pecans. Plus, the pancakes my boyfriend ordered were supposed to come with bananas and raspberries, but were sans on arrival as well. Lastly, the food was outrageously overpriced.

The hotel has a few nice amenities: 24-hour fitness room, decent pool, decent view of marina and friendly staff.

Very nice stay

Previous reviews had our expectations down a notch but we were pleasantly surprised. We had a deluxe king room on the 1st floor facing the marina and the Ritz and the view was wonderful. We really had no issues with the hotel other than the lack of heat in the pool. For the going rate they are getting for this place the pool really ought to be more useable through the cool months. Bathroom was a little small but wasn't annoying. Looks like there has been a bit of urban blight nearby, an entertainment/shopping venture alongside the marina formerly called Sarasota Quay or something has folded and is starting to create an eyesore. Speaking of the view, don't expect to enjoy sunsets from your balcony. Condos now block the view.

My partner and I decided on a short get away for Christmas and booked into the Hyatt using a mixture of Expedia and loyalty program points. My expectations were somewhat upended when we arrived and were given a king room on the 4th floor( Room 427 to be exact) and I was told it was an upgrade. Well where do I begin? The room itself smelled of damp when we got there but we opened the sliding door to the balcony( which was almost falling off the hinges) and aired the room out. The bathroom is one of the smallest I have seen in my travels and was in real need of some repairs(caulking around the tub, partial shower head blockage, shower curtain falling off) that others on here have mentioned too. The TV and pay TV system was also out that night out because of some technical issue. I would have requested a room switch but it was almost midnight and I found out the next day that they had a convention anyway and were booked solid. We ordered room service which arrived somewhat late (45 minutes when we were told 20) and was lukewarm. Free parking was provided which was good. We did not use the gym or the pool so I cannot comment on those but they looked ok. I will say that the staff were really good when I asked about local information and they provided great detailed maps and first hand knowledge. Overall I am not a fussy high maintenance kind of guy as I travel frequently and know things are never perfect all the time but the combination of all the little things would make me think twice about staying there again especially when they claimed that our room was an upgraded one.

I really enjoyed my recent stay at the Sarasota Hyatt. The frontdesk and room service staff were wonderful and the views were great. The room was nice, the bathroom was very small and a little dated however it works if you are the only one in the room and don't have to close the door. The food was average and could haved been better for the price but the service I received from the room service staff balanced out the cost. If you are in Sarasota on business and don't want to stay on one of the beaches, I would say the Hyatt is a great choice.

I would like to say that i was impressed with my stay this memorial weekend. Pool area was a
highlight-pretty busy but enjoyable with view of marina. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Sarasota is a nice town with lots to do and enjoy--just a short drive from orlando for us. Try the blue dolphin cafe for breakfast at st armand's and for a nice drive go to anna maria island and eat at the sandbar restaurant. Hope to return real soon.

We stayed at the Hyatt Sarasota on business in March. I was an exhibitor at a tradeshow set-up at the hotel. When we initially arrived, the front desk agent handed us our keys and just walked away. We were not given directions to the room, or any other helpful information.

The rooms are small and dated. The amenities are sparse. The furnishings were somewhat worn and tacky in decor. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever seen at a hotel. The door is just inches away from touching the tub. Additionally, the bathroom tiles were very moldy, and the grout was filthy. The bathtub would not drain, and maintenance had to come out and make a repair to it.

The bed was one of the most uncomfortable we have ever slept on.

The front desk staff was unable to make change for me for the vending machines (they only had 20s), and I was pregnant and in need of a ginger ale ASAP.

I will say that the room service attendants were incredibly fast, and quite nice.

For the cost, I would never visit the Hyatt Sarasota again. In fact, I wouldn't be inclined to visit again on a comp night!

This was so much better than I expected due to previous reviews. We did NOT eat on property, but thoroughly enjoyed the zero-depth entry pool, tiki bar, and views from hotel. The location is great with water all around, plenty you can walk to in downtow, etc. Our room was nice, perhaps it has been rennovated since some previous reviews? Large rooms, ours had a great view of bay - my bed was too soft, but that's a personal preference. Front desk staff were very acommodating. Parking (Free, mind you!) is readily available. We were able to park on the curb every time, within a hundred steps of lobby. In addition, there is also a parking garage attached to hotel. We booked this hotel through priceline. Enjoy!

Top Local Tips for Sarasota

Recommend the Chart House Have dinner at the Chart House; the view is just beautiful, the food is scrumptious including a salad bar that is out of this world, and the service is just great!!! It's just a short drive over onto Lido Key. I'd recommend making a reservation. Two people can have a lovely dinner for around $60; very affordable for Sarasota.

Ringling Museum and Mansion Go see it! If you have kids, the Circus museum and ESPECIALLY the miniature circus layout are MUST SEE in Sarasota.

Visit John and Mable Ringling Museum Superb time! Very efficient operation, docents are very informed. Not a pushy environment, go at your own pace.
