Great location /mediocre service

from BostonHombre
This place would be fine if their service was anything better than mediocre. We got to the hotel about 1:00 in the afternoon and had to wait for more than an hour before they had a room ready for us. Quite unctuous front desk manager. We had pre-paid for a gulf-facing room with a balcony, and we were there for a weekend break from corporate burnout.

We went to the bar to wait. They apparently make Margaritas with frozen canned limeade and a splash of tequila. Not wonderful @$7.50...Moderately trashy crowd at the bar.

Checked on room availability again. They offered us a room on the top floor, by the restaurant, instead -without a balcony...No dice. Then they offered us a second floor room with a balcony.

The beach was great. The room was clean and it is a very convenient walking distance to St Armand's Circle for shopping, dining, etc. We ate at a fine Italian restaurant- 15 South. Recommended. Our multi-lingual waiter looked like a hybrid of Alex Trebek and Errol Flynn. A very nice guy.

The day we left we chose to save time and eat breakfast at the hotel. Big mistake. First we had to wait 20 minutes because they were short-staffed, despite the dining room being nearly empty. We overheard a prospective waitress' job interview - they pay $3.45 per hour, plus tips, and the waitresses have to run the room service orders around too. Skip the croissants- served cold and far from what it should be, even when warmed. The carpet cleaners were in the restaurant lobby, spraying their chemicals. And only one elevator was running since the housekeeping staff locked one open. Since there was a soccer team staying in the hotel, it took some time to get downstairs. We walked.

Our balcony had water running down onto it that morning, from cleaning upstairs, presumably. If we hadn't been leaving it would have been bad.

Finally our room, #200, was right above and next to the dumpster /trash compactor area -rather noisy on Sunday morning.

On the positive side the pool is alright and most of the staff was less transparently smug and annoying than the front desk manager.

Overall we had a great time on Lido key and in St Armand's, but the hotel experience could have been MUCH better. The weather was fabulous. Sunset was sublime. The Mote Aquarium, however, was disappointing.

We are seasoned international travellers and have experienced all kinds of situations. So we were patient and tolerant. If you can roll with it, it's alright.

great place to stay

My sister and I just returned from a 2 day mini-vacation - the hotel was clean, very nice room. We enjoyed the resturant for the breakfast buffet-quite affordable at $10 with a great view of the ocean. It's a great location to walk to St. Armands Circle. The beach is right across the street, we didn't use the pool. There is a resturant in the lobby. I would highly recomended staying here.

Great location for beach, shopping and restaurants.

This hotel has balconies overlooking Lido beach and you can see beautiful unobstructed sunsets. St. Armand Circle is only a few blocks from the hotel where there is tons of shops of all kinds and many, many restaurants and bars.

The rooms were average, but had all the amenities. It isn't a fancy hotel and is a little older, but it was clean. We didn't try the restaurant or room service.

If possible you may want to walk in and get a price for a room. We were quoted $209 on the phone, but when we went to the desk and asked how much we got the room for $143. It was a great deal for a room directly on the water side. I would definitely stay here again.

A perfect location for all beach lovers

from Jacquelyn.S
We stayed at the Hilton Hotel. Lido Beach for 4 nights at the beginning of November 2005.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful at all times, nothing was to much trouble
Our room was on the 6th Floor with fantastic beach/sea view. We watched the sun go down on our personal balcony, the sunsets were outstanding.
We had a small problem on the first night that was sorted out to our satisfaction very quickly. The rooms are of a good size with very comfortable beds.
The air condition was much appreciated.
The pool was very clean and heated, oh so warm.
The hotels restaurant is on the top floor with great views during the day, of the beach, too dark outside to see anything from the windows in the evening. we used the restaurant daily for breakfast, there was a good breakfast selection a choice of buffet or a grand choice from the menu with very good juice and coffee.
In our opinion this hotel is very good value for money.(look out for the special deals that are available with breakfast included)
The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the
St.Armands Circle, Here you will find a wonderful selection of very special shops and some great restaurants, The Blue Dolphin Cafe is great for Lunch, fabulous food all freshly cooked.
We found Lido Beach Key a great base to travel the west side of Florida

Lots of reasons to pick this hotel

from itsadryheat44
Location, location, location! The hotel is beachside (great views) and is right next to a beach area that is either national park or some other park area. What this means is there is a looong stretch of beach, just north of the hotel, where the beach is sparsely populated. FIne white sand beaches are the norm, and sand dollars wash up on the beach. If you wade out about waist level you can feel dozens of sand dollars under your feet and it is easy to pick them up. I collected about 2 dozen. This offers a nice, fairly private area to walk with a loved one... The hotel amenities were great. The room was nicely appointed and was clean. Hallways were quiet. They were kind enough to print my boarding passes for the airline at the front desk. The food was great in the hotel and with a nice view. Shopping at St. Armands was only a couple of blocks away. Nice hotel, great location. Will return.

Holiday Inn Lido Beach - Great View and Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
We always read past reviews before booking a hotel. We feel this we give us some real feeling about the place. After reading some negative reviews about this place, we were reserved but felt the location was great. We were not disappointed. The view, beach, Sunset and hotel was great. We have a 8 year old daughter who enjoyed the area so much also. The room was gulf view, 6th floor and in very good condition, clean and fresh. The A/C was cold and felt great coming in from the beach. The staff (Front Desk, Lounge and Restaurant) were very nice and helpful. We stopped in on are way back to Miami from Adventure Island in Tampa on August 6, 2005. We hope to go back and spend a longer stay next time. The areas shops and restaurants are great. You have to try the Blue Dolphin Cafe for breakfast, the blue crab eggs benedict was out of this world, worth the 40 minute wait. Hope you all enjoy too.

Reasonably priced, beach location

My family and I stayed at the Lido Beach Holiday Inn for 9 nights in July, 2005. We had two rooms and the comments from each were the same. The rooms were immaculate and were cleaned promptly each morning. The front desk staff was extremely helpful regarding places to go and things to see and do. The housekeeping staff was always friendly and helpful, willing to go the extra mile for us to be comfortable. We ate at the on-site restaurant on several occasions for breakfast and dinner and were never disappointed. The service was wonderful and the food delicious.

Don't miss the sunset or the ice cream at Kilwin's in St. Armand's circle.

The pool could have been a little cleaner but I'm not sure how to accomplish that in 100 degree heat with kids in the pool day and night! As someone who likes a cocktail by the pool, I felt that the prices at the lounge were ludicrous.

Bottom line, if you don't drink or swim...this is the place for you!

ll keep coming back

This was our fifth visit and our best. We cashed in some priority club points and only had to pay for two of our four nights. We were upgraded to room 700. It's a suite on the top floor in the corner. The windows wrapped around the room so we could see the sunset from the room. The view was so good, we didn't even want to go to the beach. As usual the staff was great. See you next year!

excellent hotel with stunning views

from Lytham
Visited for the forth time, this hotel is typical of a Holiday Inn but the location is magic. It's over the road from the beach and the sunsets are stunning (you must ask for a sea view room). City view rooms are OK if you get a higher floor. Rooms are very clean and beds comfortable with balconies the full width of the room. The restaurant is on the top floor with magnificent views of the area. Location is within easy walking distance of St Armands Circle the local shopping and restaurant area. I would recommend to anyone.

Not a great place to host an event.

from TLB
There was an unfortunate staff change at the Holiday Inn Lido Beach; Sales Manager Mr. Bennett is no longer there and his replacement, Karen Rangel, is, in my opinion, truly horrid at her job. She does not care about legal requirements, contracts and such and instead bases her business on "her gut feelings." Really frightening if you're intending to spend 20K on a week-long destination wedding! If you're planning a wedding at the Holiday Inn Lido Beach -- watch out and read your contract very, very carefully.
