Great getaway!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I visited there last year, and it was a great. We have decided to make this a yearly vacation and keep it our little getaway!

Run!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My father lived in the area and I wish I knew about trip advisor when I planned the trip. I fell victim to the web site as well.Checked in at the inflated rate and then go to our room. Paint peeling, bathrooms moldy, thermostat broken, orange and pink toned tiles. 15 INCH TV!!!.Walked down the stairs. It is one thing if the paint is peeling off but the staff wont even clean up the paint chips.Spa charge?I left the next day and then I got charged an extra day because I left the spa/resort early. All the rooms were unoccupied, whos spot did my reservation take?To top it all off, I finally did get a call and go my money refunded. The manager said they would try and make it up to me and have a sales person call for a special rate for the next trip.
Never got the call I think they figured out they cant sell this place to someone who has seen it.Sorry, if your like me and have to stay in the area, spend extra money and go to the Westin or something else.
This place deserves to be on a David Letterman top 10 list for C-R-@-P but not on your travel plans.

it was an overated dump

from A TripAdvisor Member
our stay was from feb 12 04-16 04. we were told by hotels.com that the 10 dollar a day resort fee was included in the price. but it wasn't, you had to pay for local calls, you had to beg for towels, because they want to conserve, the people who worked in the spa were very rude, the place is very run down, it needed painted and the carpets replaced. our group was not impressed and will never go back there again. it was just and overated dump

A nice relaxing week

from A TripAdvisor Member
I took my father to Phillies' Spring Training for his 70th birthday, and decided that a resort would make the trip more special than a stay at the local chain hotel. Our room was on the ground floor by the pool.
No problems with the room, no problems with the spa, no problems with the staff. And all through the week, Dad couldn't thank me enough. I personally believe you can't go wrong with a stay at this place. Just relax and enjoy.

Competely relaxing, and a great deal!

We were a little wary of Safety Harbor after reading some reviews online and seeing the low price room offers via priceline, but we were very pleasantly surprised by our stay at the resort. No, this is not Canyon Ranch, and if that is what you are looking for, you will be disappointed. Safety Harbor has a more old-time, low-key feel to it. But our room was lovely, the bathroom had granite counters, and the views of the bay (and the weather!) are spectacular. Our room was spotless. The spa was wonderful..the exercise equipment was great, and the classes were run people who know what they are doing.Treatments were first-class, towels were big and fluffy (and plentiful), and a beautiful thick terrycloth robe was mine for the asking each morning--even more than once a day if I needed it.We couldn't believe the price...it's a great deal. We already have our next trip to Safety Harbor planned!

Pleasantly Surprised

After reading the reviews my wife and I were expecting the worst and were pleasantly surprised. We had a superior room near the spa. The room was very spacious and convenient to everything. Readers must be forewarned. This is not a fancy state of the art spa but it it is certainly good value for what we paid. The spa is very extensive and well maintained. It is a definately "old school." Lots of flufffy white towels, great massages, great steam room, adequate showers. Fitness classes were excellent and the equipment was serviceable but not the latest. The spa is very self contained and located in a unique for Florida location. The village of Safety Harbor is actually a real town, no malls, but lots of interesting artsy stores and restaurants. We had a great time and if you don't mind not spending $500 a day to have a wonderful spa experience then I would recommend The Safety Harbor Spa.

A Total Dump

from A TripAdvisor Member
Do not even consider staying here. The hotel is a total dump. Straight out of the 60's, unclean, everything is broken....a disaster. I think the only reason why they're still in business is because the spa is decent--barely. When we arrived, we walked into our room to find another couple in there. They had gone to the wrong room--but surprise!
No security here, their key worked for our room. How odd. The rooms were dirty and musty. The grounds are unkept. Pools old, cracked, dangerous. Hammock broken. Fitness center was pathetic---only thing that was decent was the weight machines and free weights. Front desk is entirely spacey, rarely would the concierge pick up the phone. Don't even waste your time----It's like a Howard Johnson's hotel from 1966.
Seriously!!!

Nice Time.

from A TripAdvisor Member
Went January 2004 I was very worried about some of these reviews but overall we had a very nice time. It was my husband, 2 year ols daughter and myself. We stayed in the Palm towers over looking Tampa Bay. We upgraded to a deluxe room and I am gad we did. Bigger, better view. The grounds were fine, well maintained, pool was nice I heard cold though.
Bar outside was ok, but expensive. As for the food, the only restuarant at the time that was open was the cafe. Menu was good (healthy options if you choose) but not to eat there all week, one or two meals was fine. We had a car so we went else where. The spa: It was nice. Very relaxing. I had a hydro bath and 25 minute facial. The Bath: OVER RATED! All it was was a regular jacuzee bath tub, which by the way I have at home. with some bubbles. That is it. Also it is in a large room with other tubs and no privacy! Two other woman were getting this done in the same room. Dont waste your money. The facial was great though.
As for the indoor poll, children under 16 are not allowed but we signed a waver and were able to bring our 2 year old in because it was too cold outside. Great day trip, or weekend away with girlfriends or mother daughter.

very disapointing

MY daughter in law set us up for a day at the spa the day after christmas. we had a facial, manicure, and massage. the people giving the manicure, said how they really hate doing their job. there were ANTS in the steam room, and the sauna was not very clean...

Wonderful!

What a wonderful, relaxing vacation. My husband and I stayed at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa from 12/27/03 - 1/1/04. I have never been so relaxed. The fitness facilities and pools are awesome, the spa treatments are fabulous. Our room was so nice and quiet. We slept about 10 hours a night. The fitness classes were great with great instructors. This may become a yearly habit!

Top Local Tips for Safety Harbor

Def. Go To Bush Gardens Bush Gardens is about 20 mins, its a great park for everyone to enjoy, there are rides, but also alot of animals to see for the older crowds.

Great room location If your looking for a great view, yet away from the noisy pool area I suggest asking for tower rooms 158, 258, 358, 458, 558, 658.

eat at the resort restaurant There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance and of course by car, but do yourself a favor and have your first meal here and then see if you even want to go elsewhere. Our friends wanted to eat anywhere buy at the resort. Due to the lateness of the evening everything was closed as we walked from place to place so we had to go to the resort restaurant. I don't know why they didn't want to eat there. They had been here many times before and it was our first time. Well it was a blessing in disguise. We all loved tour dinners at Safety Harbor Spa.
